Why do I feel like some of the younger millennials are rather harsh on a lot of the 90's era country groups?!? To enjoy "All These Years" you really have to listen to the lyrics and take it in...I've always really enjoyed it.
I had almost forgotten about Mark Collie's "Born To Love You" and how much I enjoyed not just that song but a lot of his other album cuts. While doing this rankdown I went back and listened to a lot of his albums and found a lot of gems I'd never heard before or forgotten about ("Born and Raised in Black & White," "She's Never Comin' Back," "Troubles Coming Like A Train," and "Somethings Gonna Change Her Mind" just to name a few).
I remember liking "Haunted Heart" a lot back when it first came out (I also really liked the video), but coming back around to it today the production just sounds really dated. I feel like I did underrank it quite a bit, but it was hard to rank up against so many great songs from this year.
As for "Mama Knows the Highway" it isn't a bad song at all, but it is certainly one of the few songs I want to come back around to revisit for 1993.

"All These Years" deserved better and I'm shocked at bboat11 ranking it so low. Such a powerful ballad that is incredible. You should really sit and listen to the lyrics of the song and really give it a chance. So good!

Not surprised to see it out already, but for sure surprised to see that last place ranking bboat11

Actually you're the exception regarding the younger millennials lol...I know you're quite a fan of a lot of 90's groups for the most part. Can't say the same for the other members of our Pulse community...

Well maybe I spoke too soon as I'm one of the lowest ranking members for this one lol. I do have to say that when it comes to this rankdown (and any 90's rankdown going forward) I like pretty much 95% of everything and '93 is no different. Looking back at my list I literally like everything except my #109 and #110...everything else is great. My lower ranking songs just happen to be those that I don't come back around to revisit very often for whatever reason and despite my ranking for "Mending Fences" it still is a great song.

Who's ready to see another #1 hit go down (along with someone's top 20)?

85. Travis Tritt - Can I Trust You With My HeartBillboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 1 Billboard Hot Country Songs of 1993: 33 Total Points: 1033 Average Rank: 68.866666667 Standard Deviation: 21.72841019 ( 17th lowest!) TBH, I did not remember hearing this song at all, so this was merely a discovery for me. In fact, I was nearly dumbfounded when I discovered that this was a #1 hit way back when since I couldn't remember it at all (I was just three years old when this came out!). After letting this sink in some more, I can say that this has grown on me quite a good bit and I should've ranked it at least twenty sopts higher on my end. Maybe he'll do better with "Foolish Pride" and "Tell Me I Was Dreaming"?

Just catching up on this, but man I can't believe All These Years is already out. It's slow, so I knew it wasn't likely to make the top 40, but high 80's is harsh. It's such a wonderful contrast; beautiful music set against brutally honest and sad lyrics. I really didn't remember it much from the 90's, but fell in love with it when I did a deep dive on Sawyer Brown several years ago.

I accidentally spilled milk all over my laptop this morning and I think it's now toast. :'(
I was gonna get us to the top 80 tonight, but I have a bad feeling that all my data and such is now gone so there's a chance that I'll need to start from scratch again. Sorry guys! :'(

UPDATE TIME! I was able to get all of my data recovered from my old laptop, which is now DOA, and transferred to my new one that I got yesterday! For some bragging rights, it now folds back all the way if I ever wanted to go into tablet mode (360 baby!). Now, I'm running way behind on some rankdowns I promised myself that I'd do, so there is a chance that I won't continue with results until I get off from work tomorrow evening. Stay tuned!

Hey peeps! I'll start on getting us to the top 80 in a few hours and I'll do a recap, including closeness and perfect rankings. I may even highlight a few extra songs while I'm at it!

Let's resume with the first song in this rankdown to have multiple top fifteens, including someone's very first top 10 loss!

City sun goes down at night Making way for neon lights84. Mark Chesnutt - Ol' CountryBillboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 4 Billboard Hot Country Songs of 1993: 63 Total Points: 1029 Average Rank: 68.6 Standard Deviation: 29.66912777 tim - 9 George Strait Junkie - 15 kw9461 - 43 sabre14 - 54 LBTrocks - 57 bboat11 - 62 .indulgecountry - 62 rgreen0625 - 72 Kanenrá:ke - 76 Cody Wants Out... - 91 Glove Slap - 93 someguy - 97 CoJoFan - 98 castleoblivion26 - 99 austin - 101
Looks like it's time for tim to make a big sacrifice as he loses his first top 10 with this debut appearance of Mark Chesnutt in this rankdown, which served as the final single from his sophomore album Longnecks & Short Stories. George Strait Junkie loses another top 15 here as well. Sadly, the six bottom 20 rankings brought this way down, all but settling into it's home in the bottom 40. Sorry Tim! This one got lost in the shuffle for me and didn't stand out enough for me to rank it higher.

I had a hunch it was going to be one of my top 10’s that was on the chopping block. Both of Mark Chesnutt’s first two albums Too Cold at Home and Longnecks & Short Stories are solid and among the best of 90’s country. Disappointed to see this song leave so early but also not surprised.

83. Collin Raye - That Was a RiverBillboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 4 Billboard Hot Country Songs of 1993: 64 Total Points: 1023 Average Rank: 68.2 Standard Deviation: 25.41147098 castleoblivion26 - 22 someguy - 34 Cody Wants Out... - 40 Kanenrá:ke - 47 CoJoFan - 48 austin - 49 Glove Slap - 72 rgreen0625 - 78 sabre14 - 84 bboat11 - 86 kw9461 - 89 tim - 90 LBTrocks - 92 George Strait Junkie - 93 .indulgecountry - 99
As one man enters...another one exits. Collin Raye loses his final song here as the last single from his sophomore album In This Life, taking down three of our top 40s, including one of mine and a near top-20 from castleoblivion26. The piano in this one is just so beautiful and I really love how the key change was executed here However, I will admit that I can see this being boring to some and that he has better in his discography. This is also probably the first time he downright flopped in a year-end rankdown, given his breakthrough single "Love, Me" made the top 10 in the '92 RD and the title track of this album made the top 40, iirc. Maybe he'll do better in the RDs from the mid-90s. He has some fantastic ones there imo ( Extremes and I Think About You).

As I’ve mentioned previously I don’t dislike anything other than my bottom two, but as you said Cody Wants Out... “That Was A River” can be a tad bit boring. I enjoy the song well enough, but it just isn’t one that I want to revisit much. And yes I also expect Collin to do much better in other 90’s rankdowns including 1996 which I plan on hosting sometime in early 2019 (that’ll include most of the I Think About You era).

82. Diamond Rio - This Romeo Ain't Got Julie YetBillboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 13 Total Points: 1018 Average Rank: 67.8666667 Standard Deviation: 27.81024135 George Strait Junkie - 19 LBTrocks - 22 Kanenrá:ke - 30 .indulgecountry - 42 bboat11 - 50 rgreen0625 - 76 CoJoFan - 78 kw9461 - 79 castleoblivion26 - 80 someguy - 82 sabre14 - 85 Cody Wants Out... - 86 austin - 86 Glove Slap - 96 tim - 107
Well...this one was new to me! Shakespeare makes a comeback with the play on the title Romeo & Juliet, in the form of a mild-performing hit from Marty Roe and the guys. Wait. Is it true that this one went top 5 in Canada Kanenrá:ke? I liked this one a decent bit and I guess it's starting to grow on me a bit. We know that our Canadian mod plus George Strait Junkie and LBTrocks like this one quite a lot perhaps as they each lose a top 30. Coming up next is a song that I originally had planned for the '94 RD and one of the three I just mentioned will lose a top 20! :o

81. Sammy Kershaw - Queen of My Double Wide TrailerBillboard Hot Country Songs Peak: 7 Total Points: 1010 Average Rank: 67.3333333333 Standard Deviation: 24.87588237 George Strait Junkie - 16 tim - 26 austin - 36 sabre14 - 56 kw9461 - 64 castleoblivion26 - 68 Cody Wants Out... - 69 bboat11 - 73 LBTrocks - 73 Kanenrá:ke - 75 .indulgecountry - 78 rgreen0625 - 90 CoJoFan - 90 someguy - 93 Glove Slap - 103
That's right y'all! George Strait Junkie suffers from back-to-back top 20 losses here! :o One may ask, why'd I consider this for the '94 RD? Well, this song reached it's natural radio peak during the Billboard tracking year of 1994, which runs from the first week of December 1993 to the last week of November 1994. Why'd I decide to include it here instead? Well, first, I already have three Sammy Kershaw songs planned for '94 and, second, this song was already building a good amount of steam towards the end of BB 1993 anyways, so why not? Anyways, lots of bottom half ranks (including one from myself) kept pushing this back further and further into the bottom 40, eventually serving as a bookend for our bottom 30 here. Believe it or not, I do like this song quite a bit and find it kinda cute.

"That Was A River" deserved better.
can "Mercury Blues" please leave soon. One of the very few Alan Jackson songs that I absolutely cannot stand. Not sure why exactly but I've never liked it at all and to see songs I really like leave before it is disappointing.

Would sure love to have company at that point!

I really went back and forth with my #26 ranking of "Queen of My Double Wide Trailer" but the song really is a guilty pleasure...it's just so infectious and fun. Every time I hear that song I just can't help but sing along with it. I could probably easily rank it just as high as George Strait Junkie did on any given day lol.

I was calculating closeness earlier this evening, and I caught a mistake I made in inputting someone's ranks. Luckily, it's in an area that we have yet to see, but I'm gonna double check my info before I reveal anything else.
When we kick off the top 80, I will make an attempt to double up on reveals to make up for the lost days that have been accumulated recently.
Stay tuned!
