This is the only song in the entire rankdown where I feel like I made a mistake in terms of the selection. Not in terms of it being crazy, this song is absolutely bonkers...but I prefer other iwrestledabearonce songs to this one, to be honest. That will be made apparent when another Crazy RD begins, but, for now...49iwrestledabearonce - Tastes Like Kevin BaconPoints: 172 Standard Deviation: 16.310 (seventh-highest)Rankingsjaninho: 5 @carseatlegrest: 11 rowellfarm490: 19 aerodynamite: 30 peacebone: 36 Troy: 45 @humanshazam: 48 wheatsquares33: 48 Lordef†ones: 49 Red: 50 singingrulebritannia: 50 American Idiot: 50 @jamesflame: 50

And we shift BACK over to the lower end of the standard deviation spectrum with #48, this time with the eighth-lowest standard deviation. Outside of a brief period very early on, this song was a staple of the bottom ten. In fact, this song was at the #49 spot for five of the last six rankings, only moving up one spot to #48 at the very end of the ranking process.
Two posters will lose a top half ranking here at #48, with one being a top 20 ranking. Five posters will lose a bottom ten ranking, meanwhile, with three of those rankings being a bottom five ranking. One poster will get to experience that perfection that so many of us crave.

This band and I go way back. Way back. I think I first discovered them back when "Laid to Rest" was getting airplay on MTV2. I'm honestly not that big of a Lamb of God fan, but I really dug their latest album, and this was my favorite song on that album by some distance. On a related note, this is the first bad loss for me in this rankdown. It will not be the last one.48Lamb of God - Still EchoesPoints: 180 Standard Deviation: 9.788RankingsRed: 16 Lordef†ones: 23 @carseatlegrest: 27 aerodynamite: 34 American Idiot: 37 singingrulebritannia: 39 @jamesflame: 39 janinho: 40 wheatsquares33: 43 Troy: 44 peacebone: 46 @humanshazam: 47 rowellfarm490: 48

The song at #47 was a bottom ten contender from, pretty much, the beginning. For a while, though, it looked like it might escape the bottom ten by the skin of its teeth. In fact, it was #40 for two consecutive rankings late in the process. In the end, a bad run of rankings sealed its fate and sent it spiraling down to a new low point at the end.
Only one poster loses a top half ranking at #47, but it's a fairly high one, and a high loss for someone that has already suffered early. Seven posters will shed a bottom ten, on the other hand, though only one is a bottom five ranking. Said bottom five is a decidedly low bottom five, however.

As you may have figured out by the multiple inclusions of the genre here, I'm kind of a fan of metalcore. I'm not as familiar with the genre as I would like to be, honestly, bu I'm familiar enough to have placed quite a few metalcore acts in this rankdown. August Burns Red is one of the big ones, but this song just couldn't really get going.
(If this rankdown took into account music videos, however, this song would have shot up my ranking.)47August Burns Red - Invisible EnemyPoints: 196 Standard Deviation: 10.307Rankingsjaninho: 12 @humanshazam: 27 Red: 28 wheatsquares33: 28 @carseatlegrest: 29 aerodynamite: 39 American Idiot: 41 rowellfarm490: 41 Lordef†ones: 42 peacebone: 43 singingrulebritannia: 44 @jamesflame: 44 Troy: 49

Originally, I thought that #46 would do better than it actually wound up doing. When I really thought about it, though, its poor performance made more sense. This song hung out in the 30s for the first chunk of rankings, only to slip into the bottom ten closer to the middle. Once it fell into the bottom ten, it would remain in the 44-47 range for the rest of the rankdown, spending the last eight rankings in that range.
Two posters will lose a top half ranking at #46, but neither are very high rankings. Five posters will shed a bottom ten, but only one is a bottom five, and it's not a particularly low bottom five. This is the song with the fourth-lowest standard deviation.

I'm vaguely familiar with Norma Jean's work pre-Polar Similar, and I certainly want to delve deeper into their discography...but MAN, I love Polar Similar. The first time I listened to the album, it just destroyed me. It was one of the most visceral first listens I've ever experienced, and this song played a big role in that experience. I thought this might do better, but it's not like the limited Norma Jean experiences on Pulse have been positive ones.46Norma Jean - Death is a Living PartnerPoints: 204 Standard Deviation: 8.845Rankingsjaninho: 23 peacebone: 23 @humanshazam: 26 singingrulebritannia: 28 Red: 32 Troy: 33 Lordef†ones: 34 @carseatlegrest: 35 American Idiot: 43 wheatsquares33: 45 aerodynamite: 45 @jamesflame: 45 rowellfarm490: 47

#45 was this close to being the third song to have spent every ranking in the bottom ten. It would have a fleeting moment, spending one ranking outside of the bottom ten, only to fall deep into the abyss the next ranking. Outside of a four ranking span where it spent time in the bottom five in three of those rankings, however, this song mostly spent time in the 41-45 range.
Two posters lose a top half--er, top 20 ranking at #45, but one poster will lose a top ten--wait, I mean top five ranking. Four posters will also lose a bottom ten ranking, though only one is a bottom five...and, yet again, it's not a particularly low bottom five.

Really, while I do love this particular song, I feel like I should have included this one in another rankdown that I plan on doing in the future. I love "Hate by Design", but it would fit in that rankdown just a little bit more. I have a hunch that it wouldn't have performed very well in that rankdown either, though...

#44 was another song that had its moments outside of the bottom ten, but it had trouble staying out of the bottom ten. At one point, it looked like this song might contend for the #50 spot, only to move out of the bottom five and hang out in the 41-45 range for the last four rankings.
We'll see three posters lose a top half ranking, with two of those rankings being top 20 rankings. One of those posters won't lose a top ten, but it's not that far off. Five posters will lose a bottom ten, meanwhile, though, yet again, only one will lose a bottom five ranking. One poster will get to taste a little perfection, however.

I discovered Satyricon the same way I discovered Lamb of God: MTV2. Obviously, the bands have their fair share of differences, but I do find it interesting that I discovered both bands the same way. #43 actually spent a good chunk of the rankdown outside of the bottom ten, spending five consecutive rankings on the outskirts of the bottom ten at one point. Ultimately, the allure of the bottom ten proved to be too strong, even pulling the song down into the bottom three for multiple rankings. It was able to rebound, but only out of the bottom five and into the #43 spot.
Three posters will lose top half rankings here, with two posters losing top 20 rankings. There's an interesting coincidence to be found in these top 20 rankings. Meanwhile, five posters will lose a bottom ten ranking, only one being a bottom five...but a bottom five for someone who desperately needs the loss. Multiple posters will also get to have a little perfection fun.

I'm trying to remember how I first discovered this song. It had to have been thanks to the documentary, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil", a personal favorite documentary that I would recommend to everyone who participated in this rankdown. Yes, even those of you who ranked it low.

#42 had the best run of any song so far, appearing in the top 25 for multiple rankings, before skidding HARD down the ranking and, eventually, into the bottom ten, where it would hang out for the last six rankings. So close, only to get so far away...
Three more posters will lose a top half ranking, all top 20 rankings. Unlike the last couple of reveals, one poster will lose a top ten ranking, though not a particularly high one. I doubt this will be much consolation to the top ten loser, though. Four posters will lose a bottom ten, with two posters losing a bottom five ranking. Another poster will experience the life of perfection for this reveal.

#41 had a very bipolar run. It zoomed into the bottom ten early, hanging out for four of five rankings in the upper tier of the bottom ten. It would then make a sudden move up the rankdown, even jumping into the top half very briefly, before gradually falling back down to earth and sliding down to the top of the bottom at the very end of the ranking process.
Four posters will lose a top half ranking, with three losing a top 20 ranking. Not one, but two posters will lose a top ten ranking here. One poster will be suffering another top ten loss, while the other will be losing a top five ranking. Six posters will be clearing a bottom ten, meanwhile, with three posters losing a bottom five, and one even losing a #50. Multiple posters will also get to experience a little perfection.

Another reveal, another song that has deep video game ties...as well as another song that was a pain in the ass to play on fake guitar. Trying to strum my way through "Take This Life" was a test of patience, a test that I usually failed...but I was willing to put up with it because the song itself also kicked my ass, albeit in a less painful way.

21st century In Flames is soooooooooo bad. The vocalist sounds like a mole-person and the riffs don't go anywhere.

50. Chemical Logic (#50) - ppppppppppppp, can't stand Static-X, very easy #50 choice, those vocals are just abysmal haha 49. Tastes Like Kevin Bacon (#48) - yeah, not surprised this is out this early. those vocals were a bit strained, and it was pretty clunky and disjointed. didn't despise it though 48. Still Echoes (#47) - can't get into Lamb of God, they just feel so "meatheaded" imo, i like the type of metalcore like ABR 47. Invisible Enemy (#27) - speaking of ABR, lol, this was really good, metalcore isn't usually my thing, but ABR do it right, they always make their songs interesting 46. Death is a Living Partner (#26) - another metalcore band i like, Norma Jean have always been one of my favorites. "If You Got it At 5, Then You Got It at 50" is a really great song. this isn't quite as good, but still very solid. 45. Hate by Design (#35) - good lord all the metalcore is going out in a row, this was one of my favorites from the active charts a few years ago, but not my favorite from KSE. still quite good. 44. Fuel for Hatred (#29) - some good ol' sinister black metal. also very good, a bit shocked it's out THIS early (figured it wouldn't last long, but hoped it would go a bit farther) 43. 666 (#44) - imo this just didn't stand out much, not a bad song by any means but it didn't catch my attention much. 42. Thrasher (#17) - oof, highest loss yet. this was awesome, very nice modern thrash metal. surprised i haven't heard of these guys. 41. Take This Life (#38) - i mean, In Flames seem like a band I should really be into, but they haven't quite clicked yet. this wasn't bad though, pretty nice metal track.

how is this even remotely possible? I only report the statistics. It's game time. We start tonight's reveals with #40, a song that only spent two rankings inside the bottom ten. It also only spent an additional ranking outside of the 31-40 range closer to the end of the ranking process, but it was sent quickly back down to the 36-40 range after that.
We'll see three top half twenty fifteen rankings fall with our first reveal tonight, with not one, but two posters losing a top ten ranking early. Four posters will also lose a bottom ten ranking, with three posters being fortunate enough to lose a bottom five.
