My experiences with Trivium have been mixed. There are times where they really click with me, but there are also other times where I wish I was doing anything else than listening to a Trivium song. "The Sin and the Sentence" was one of the former experiences for me. I possibly could have chosen another song for this rankdown instead of "Sentence", but I doubt they would have done much better.40Trivium - The Sin and the SentencePoints: 246 Standard Deviation: 13.865Rankingsjaninho: 7 American Idiot: 10 @carseatlegrest: 14 wheatsquares33: 29 Lordef†ones: 29 rowellfarm490: 33 Troy: 37 Red: 38 singingrulebritannia: 38 aerodynamite: 41 @humanshazam: 46 @jamesflame: 47 peacebone: 48

#39 was in the bottom ten for all but two rankings. The first one wasn't important, as it was early on in the ranking process, but the second instance was after the last ranking. Also worth noting is that this was also in the bottom five early, looking like a potential candidate for the bottom for multiple rankings.
Five people will lose a top half ranking here, with three of those rankings being top twenty rankings...though not a single one of them is even a top fifteen ranking. We'll also see three bottom tens fall at #39, with two posters losing a bottom five. One poster will even lose a dreaded #50 here. Another poster will get to have a good, clean, fun perfection session.

Volbeat hooked me big time with their 2011 album Beyond Hell / Above Heaven. My attraction to the band was not just based in their strong single releases, as they had some solid album cuts, as well...though only one could realistically qualify for a Crazy RD.

#38 is tied with #39. Oops, I forgot to mention that (though I really didn't). This song had a decent start, and it looked like it might stick around in the top 30 after a brief setback, but the last couple of rankings sealed this song's fate, knocking it down to a new low spot by the end of the ranking process.
Six posters will lose a top half ranking at #38, with three top 20 rankings being among those rankings. One poster will suffer a top ten loss, and though any top ten loss is a rough loss, it's also not a particularly high top ten ranking. Six posters, on the other hand, will shed a bottom ten, with two getting rid of a bottom five ranking. One other factoid: The middle ranking between the top half and bottom ten rankers was decidedly leaning toward one of the two extremes...

Hey, remember when I talked about MTV2 discoveries? Here's another! This was the discovery that hooked me the most upon repeat listens, even though I would say that I prefer Lamb of God's "Laid to Rest" now. The bombast and grandiose scale of the song is what kept hooking me in. Many people disagree, but that's not too much of a surprise.38Dimmu Borgir - Progenies of the Great ApocalypsePoints: 249 Standard Deviation: 13.284Rankingswheatsquares33: 9 Red: 17 @carseatlegrest: 20 aerodynamite: 21 rowellfarm490: 22 singingrulebritannia: 23 Troy: 40 @humanshazam: 41 janinho: 42 peacebone: 42 @jamesflame: 43 Lordef†ones: 46 American Idiot: 48

*2010 Based on the rankings so far, I don't believe that most people here are ready for Napalm Death. I always mix up the original release and the US release on that album. And they're probably not ready...but they're coming, anyway. :kii: #37 is the first song to have been in the top ten at any point in the ranking process, though it was early on in the rankdown. A sharp fall saw it hover in the 31-40 range for most of the rankdown, a disappointing end to what had been a fun start for this song.
Six posters will lose a top half ranking, though only two of those rankings are top 20 rankings...though one is a top ten for someone who has a lost at least one top ten already. Five posters will cleanse themselves of a bottom ten, meanwhile, with three bottom fives also being lost.

I remeber it bc the album was one of the best selling albums that year here and I rememeber ''Fallen'' being played on MTV and that channel was pay tv between 2011 and 2017. Considering this has to be the most obscure song in this rankdown, I can't say that I'm too disappointed about where it placed. In fact, I'm a little surprised that it even escaped the bottom ten. This was a song that I discovered through Rock Band DLC, a song by a band that does not have an English Wikipedia page. Sums it up, really.

#36 is also tied...though with #35 only. This song would only spend five rankings outside of the 36-40 range, and even outside of that range, it was never even able to break into the top half. It would spend four straight rankings at #39 and nearly fell into the bottom ten, but one of the last couple of rankings saved it from falling too deep into the abyss.
Four posters will lose a top half ranking with #36, two of those rankings being top 20 rankings. One of those top 20 rankings is pretty close to a top ten ranking. Only three posters will shed a bottom ten ranking, but two of those bottom tens are bottom fives, both at the same ranking.

Let's cut straight to the chase: The Dusk in Us was my album of the year last year. In a year where it seemed like things were getting bleaker and darker, Converge were there to help give me a soundtrack to the madness that 2017 inspired. "Reptilian" isn't my absolute favorite song on the album (we'll see my absolute favorite in a future rankdown), but it is one of my favorites, and it certainly qualifies as a song worthy of this rankdown.36Converge - ReptilianPoints: 256 Standard Deviation: 11.072Rankings@humanshazam: 13 @jamesflame: 16 peacebone: 21 @carseatlegrest: 22 rowellfarm490: 28 Red: 31 janinho: 32 singingrulebritannia: 35 Lordef†ones: 37 aerodynamite: 38 American Idiot: 42 wheatsquares33: 47 Troy: 47

#35 was destined to finish in the 31-40 range. Outside of two rankings above that range and one ranking below (all early), this song was stuck in the 31-40 range (and, specifically, the 35-40 range) for the entire rankdown. As such, it's little surprise that this song has the sixth-lowest standard deviation.
Four posters will lose a top half ranking with #35, though only one is a top 20 ranking...but it's a high one, close to a top ten ranking, even. Three posters will lose a bottom ten, on the other hand, with one poster getting a bottom five after a rough reveal last time out.

I like to think that HORSE the band were one of the first "out there" bands that I really got into, though only one of their songs has really stuck with me beyond a fleeting curiosity. "Shapeshift" continues to fascinate me nearly a decade later, a song that moves around like a particularly strange and wild roller coaster. Is it any surprise, then, that I'm the lone top 20 ranker?35HORSE the band - ShapeshiftPoints: 256 Standard Deviation: 9.750 (sixth-lowest)RankingsRed: 12 wheatsquares33: 22 rowellfarm490: 23 peacebone: 25 @carseatlegrest: 28 aerodynamite: 29 Troy: 31 Lordef†ones: 33 janinho: 35 @humanshazam: 36 singingrulebritannia: 42 American Idiot: 45 @jamesflame: 46

#34 was another song that spent the majority of its time inside the bottom ten. In fact, it spent six straight rankings in the bottom ten, as well as eight of nine rankings early on. It found a lifeline late, though, rebounding enough to escape the bottom ten permanently and into a new high point at the very end of the rankdown.
Five posters will lose a top half ranking at #34, all but one of those rankings being top 20 rankings. We'll also see just two posters lose a bottom ten ranking (though one poster comes mighty close to losing a bottom ten, as well), with just one being a bottom five ranking...but it's a pretty massive bottom five: A #50.

Though I like Filter, I wouldn't say that a lot of their songs really qualify as much more than early Crazy RD fodder. "The Take" is no exception, a song that is rough around the edges, but no more than a bunch of songs in this rankdown. #33 started out well early, hanging out in the top 30 for the first six rankings, only to fall into the 31-35 range for the rest of the ranking process. Its final destination, #33, was a spot that it occupied for three of the last four rankings, including the last two.
Five posters will lose a top half twenty ranking here at #33, while two posters will feel the same of a top ten loss. These top ten losses are noteworthy in the sense that they are each poster's first top ten loss. Only one poster loses a bottom ten, but it's a bottom five.

Between the Buried and Me was a band that I actually discovered through my ex-girlfriend. I remember that she had a song on her computer when we were dating, though the exact song itself eludes me. I want to say that it was "Alaska". That led me to Colors, which I loved, and The Great Misdirect, which I liked even more. We'll see a song from Colors in a future Crazy RD, but for now, here's my favorite off of The Great Misdirect...and my first top ten loss. #32 almost never left the 26-40 range. It also was unable to move out of the bottom 20 for the last six rankings, though it only ever fell into the bottom 15 three times, two in consecutive rankings early on.
Six posters will lose a top half ranking at #32, with four of those rankings being a top 20 ranking. One poster will inch a little too close to a top ten ranking for their liking. As with the last reveal, we'll see just one bottom ten ranking, but it's a bottom five.

I feel like many of you know this song more as a meme than as an actual song, at this point. For me, this was more than a meme. I remember when it was receiving significant airplay upon its release, a fact that continues to amaze me every day. THIS song was receiving mainstream attention? Mudvayne went on to make songs that were decidedly more mainstream friendly, but they started in one of the least mainstream ways possible.32Mudvayne - DigPoints: 307 Standard Deviation: 10.611RankingsLordef†ones: 13 American Idiot: 15 @carseatlegrest: 16 Red: 19 @jamesflame: 21 peacebone: 24 rowellfarm490: 27 Troy: 29 @humanshazam: 32 wheatsquares33: 35 janinho: 38 aerodynamite: 40 singingrulebritannia: 47

I have a lot more to say about #31 than I did #32, thankfully. This song struggled early, even hanging out in the bottom five at times, before a wave of good rankings helped to move the song out of the bottom ten permanently. In fact, this song almost escaped the bottom twenty. The only reason it was not able to escape was because of the fact that it lost a tiebreaker with #30.
Five posters will see a top half ranking fall, with all but one of those posters losing a top 15 ranking. The most interesting thing about this song are its two top ten rankings, including a top five ranking for a poster that, if I am not mistaken, has not lost a top ten up to this point. Three posters will shed a bottom ten ranking, as well, with one poster losing a bottom five.

This is one instance where I wish that I had chosen another song by this artist instead. "Lie Lie Lie" was a good choice in terms of being crazy and off the wall, sure, but I'd argue that he has just as crazy songs even on the same album. "The Unthinking Majority" certainly fits the bill, for example. Oh well, I chose "Lie Lie Lie", and I still enjoy the song quite a bit, so...shrug31Serj Tankian - Lie Lie LiePoints: 314 Standard Deviation: 14.340RankingsLordef†ones: 5 aerodynamite: 6 wheatsquares33: 11 @carseatlegrest: 15 Troy: 24 singingrulebritannia: 26 American Idiot: 28 janinho: 28 peacebone: 34 rowellfarm490: 38 @jamesflame: 41 @humanshazam: 45 Red: 48

40. The Sin and the Sentence (#46) - Trivium just don't do it for me, they seem so bland to me when it comes to metalcore 39. Evelyn (#43) - those growled vocals were insane, but there wasn't a whole lot else here that caught my ear 38. Progenies of the Great Apocalypse (#41) - i like Dimmu Borgir, but sometimes they can be a bit too overdramatic, and this was one of those times 37. Where the Light Was Born (#23) - really dug this, some great black metal with impressive guitar 36. Reptilian (#13) - fuuuuuuuuuuuuu, Converge are so good, likely my favorite metalcore band, so much technique and passion in their music, and this was one of my favorites off their new album 35. Shapeshift (#36) - this was VERY interesting, i think this is Nintendocore, weird mix of electronic and metalcore, but I kinda dug it 34. The Take (#37) - Filter are alright, nothing too special imo and the same goes for this song 33. Obfuscation (#8) - well, there goes my first top 10. if i want some heavy ass prog metal, i usually go to BTBAM. and this song is no exception. loved the movements the song went through as well as the instrumentation 32. Dig (#32) - PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP, this song is a BIG guilty pleasure of mine. this should be something I hate but the bass is so funky that i ended up liking this. 31. Lie Lie Lie (#45) - yeah, this didn't do a whole lot for me. Serj has made some great songs but this fell flat for me, was a tad lifeless and boring

Not a lot of activity last night. Let's see if things change on a Friday at the same time. Let's update!
#30 spent most of its time in the top 30, though it would only spend a couple of rankings in the top half. It spent four rankings at the #30 spot, including the last two. and it spent the last four rankings in the very small 28-30 range.
Six posters will lose a top half ranking with tonight's first reveal, with all but one losing a top 20 ranking. Multiple posters will lose a top ten ranking, with one poster losing a high top five, the first of many top five losses tonight. Three posters will also be shedding a bottom ten ranking, but they are all (repeat: all) low bottom fives. This does not have a top ten high standard deviation, but it's not far off.

It pained me ranking this song as low as I did. I really do like this song, and, to this day, listening to this song (and its parent album, w h o k i l l) was an experience I have not had while listening to music before or since. It is singular, truly unique.30tUnE-yArDs - BiznessPoints: 314 Standard Deviation: 16.046Rankingsaerodynamite: 3 Troy: 8 singingrulebritannia: 12 wheatsquares33: 12 @humanshazam: 19 @carseatlegrest: 23 rowellfarm490: 26 Lordef†ones: 27 American Idiot: 34 peacebone: 38 Red: 49 janinho: 49 @jamesflame: 49

Let's just say that I do not like #29 as much. This song was an early top 20 contender, and it would even rise into the top ten at around the midway point...and then came the tank. It never stood a chance after the tank, falling out of the top 20 and then falling out of the top 25 altogether, eventually landing at a low point for the song by the end of the rankdown.
It's time to meet the song with the third-highest standard deviation. EIGHT posters will lose a top half ranking, all top 20 rankings, and three posters will lose a top ten. One poster will lose a very high top five ranking. The other five rankings are bottom tens, all but four being bottom fives. One poster will get to shed their #50 here.

"Bizness" was my favorite discovery. I had got into tUnE-yArDs earlier this year when I can feel you creep into my private life was released, and I'd love to check out more of their discography.
Also, tUnE-yArDs exemplifies "absolutely crazy" better than just about any artist here. ;)
