Though it's not one of the later songs in the rankdown, this song was one of the first that came to mind when I decided to put together a rankdown that would test the patience of Pulse. This song is what this rankdown is all about, and it was one of the first songs in the rankdown. Sums it all up, really.

#6 had quite the run, hence why it has the fourth-highest standard deviation. This song looked like it could be a bottom feeder early, only to start surging up the rankdown immediately after. At one point, it looked like this song might even challenge for the #1 spot, but it would fall hard in the back half of the top ten, where it would stay for the rest of its run.
All but four people ranked #6 in their top half, and a whopping seven posters ranked this song in their top ten, SIX of which are top five rankings. We'll also see one of the last #1 rankings fall with this reveal. There are three particularly low rankings for this song, as well, and someone may or may not clear their bottom ten here.

This was the BIG comeback story of the rankdown. This song was in the bottom ten, at one point. It did not stay there, of course, and it wound up going from bottom ten contender to top ten contender in record time.
Congrats on clearing your bottom ten here, peacebone...and my condolences, @carseatlegrest.

I don't understand why people act like RATM is all that less embarrassing than most rap rock
for what it's worth though I would have had "Bullet in the Head" much higher

#5 is the source of the last remaining very high standard deviation, the ninth-highest. This song spent all but two rankings in the top ten, and it spent all but four rankings in the top five. At one point later in the rankdown, it hit the #1 spot. It could not keep up the momentum, though it would spend three of the last five rankings at #5, so there's that?
All but three posters ranked the song at #5 in their top half, and six posters ranked this song in their top ten. Wait, what's that? I'm sorry, six posters ranked this song in their top five. And there may be a #1 lurking in here, as well. We'll also see three pretty low rankings at #5, with one maybe, possibly clearing a bottom ten.

This song was another of the songs that I thought would contend for #1. For a fleeting moment, it looked like it WOULD contend. It just didn't quite get there.
My condolences, @humanshazam and American Idiot. And with that...there are no #1s remaining. (But also, congrats on clearing your bottom ten, aerodynamite and singingrulebritannia.)

We have two low SDs remaining, and we're going to see the lowest remaining at #4...the third-lowest, to be exact. This did not immediately start its journey in the top ten, but it quickly found its footing, spending the last nine rankings inside the top ten. It was never lower than #7 from that point on, even reaching the #2 spot at one point, before it settled in at the #4 spot, a spot it spent three of the last four rankings.
Not a single poster ranked this song below the top 30. Not one. Incredibly, though, only two posters ranked this song in their top ten (but one is a top five ranking). The next six rankings are all in the 11-20 range. This song was a song that nobody hated or even disliked, hence why it ended up so high in the rankdown.

There were no shortage of potential options for this band, but, instead of going with the absolute craziest songs this band has to offer, I wanted to focus on a song that I just really, really like. Really, that's the story of this rankdown more than anything: I went with songs that I really liked, THEN I considered how crazy they were. I did not follow that train of thought with the other two Crazy RDs, let me tell you...

Our final low standard deviation is being revealed at #3, the tenth-lowest. Outside of two rankings, this song was in the top ten early and often. In fact, it spent the last nine rankings in the top five, including the last four rankings at #3. Once this song fully grasped onto #3, it was not about to let go...except for the one time it had the #3 spot and let it go before that.
Only two posters did not rank this song in their top half, though both of those rankings are bottom twenty rankings. Of the top half rankings--sorry, top twenty rankings, five are top ten rankings...though, incredibly, none are top fives.

I thought that this song might have a chance at top ten, but to be such a persistent force in the top ten and in the top five...I can't say I was expecting that, even considering the band involved. This has never been one of their most popular songs, but I love this song and will defend this song all day, every day...even if Lordef†ones won't.

Okay, no top two preview, but I will say this much: Unlike most Journey RDs, this final two battle WAS close. Just seven points separate the winner.

This song's performance blew my mind. This is the song that was the last song in a group of songs that were ranked from least crazy to craziest...and it made the top two! I don't foresee this happening with the next two Crazy RDs, but with how well this song did in the first Crazy RD...I can't guarantee that it won't happen again, either. And that means that, for the first time in any Red rankdown, a song not in my top half wins the rankdown!
(It's just too bad that I actually love the song. I can't even get angry about it!)

And that is that! This rankdown was a blast to post, but it was also a blast to follow along as the rankings were coming in. What a rankdown. Some of the craziest things that have ever happened in any rankdown that I've hosted happened in this rankdown. The 11-20 set, in particular, is one of the craziest sets I've ever posted, and the top ten was pretty wild, too. I want to thank all of you who submitted, followed along, posted in this thread, or helped in any way at any point during the course of this thread's existence. You guys are why I continue to host these rankdowns...even when I'm actively trying to test your patience with rankdowns like these.
So...what's next? Well, I thought about immediately diving into the second Crazy RD, but I think that we need to take a break for now from the craziness. Don't want you guys to lose your minds too quickly, eh? No, let's go for a decidedly less crazy rankdown, albeit one that has its share of long songs (though none as long as "Cassandra Gemini"). It's time to tackle the current decade (so far). I'll see you all soon...in the 2010's.
(Wait, aren't we IN the 2010's? Dammit, Red...)

10. Spectrelight (#12) - i love practically anything from Mastodon that isn't Show Yourself, so this was of course high on my list 9. Right On, Frankenstein! (#33) - this was super catchy, but it lacked the punch that would make me want to rank it higher 8. Kodama (#10) - i loooove me some post-metal, no surprise this would be in my top 10 7. I'm Designer (#24) - love QOTSA, of course this was great, but it's not one of my favorites from them 6. Know Your Enemy (#40) - i really like some RATM, but a lot of times they fall a bit flat. 5. State of the Union (#1) - my favorite Rise Against song, and one of my favorite songs in general. so much aggression in one song, it's just impossible not to be filled with energy when I listen to this 4. Know (#30) - usually love SOAD, but this did less than usual for me. not bad though 3. Hexagram (#7) - those VOCALS, man. love Deftones of course, and this was a very impressive song from them 2. Cassandra Gemini (#3) - you thought I wouldn't put this top 3? i'm a sucker for long songs, and The Mars Volta are one of my favorite bands. such an odyssey of a song 1. March of the Pigs (#2) - incredible, incredible song and winner. so noisy and harsh, but those couple seconds of calm piano chords contrasted with the rest of the song make this so beautiful Red, simply a fantastic job with yet another Journey! this is honestly my favorite rankdown I've ever done, so many unique songs here and so many great discoveries. cannot wait for the next Journey! :)

Another superb rankdown Red! Great song selection like usual. I enjoyed pretty much every one of these crazy songs.
I'm happy that my #1, "Luna", was able to make the top 20. I feared it would get eliminated much earlier. And I'm ecstatic by how well "Kodama" performed. That was my favorite discovery here. It's insane that an over half hour song almost won. Nice to see NIN get the title though.
Time to add another 10-15 songs that were featured here to my download queue so I can add them to my music collection! :)
