Lots of people love to say Dance music didn't get popular in America til the second half of 2000s, but I think it started moderately for a bit in 2002. These were hits in 2002: DJ Sammy - Heaven (#8 Hot 100, #4 Pop Radio) [2002] Dirty Vegas - Days Go By (#14 Hot 100, #7 Pop Radio) [2002] Daniel Beddingfield - Gotta Get Thru This (#10 Hot 100, #3 Pop Radio) [2002] Madonna - Die Another Day (#8 Hot 100, #4 Pop Radio) [2002] They all sound very much like Dance/Euro-Dance to me. And there was also Kylie's Can't Get You Out of My Head & Love At First Sight, more regular Pop hits, but still very Dance sound. man i miss those days. The music today totally sucks compared to that period.

Lil Pump Scores Second Billboard Hot 100 Entry With 'Esskeetit' News By Xander Zellner | April 24, 2018 3:04 PM EDT
The rapper follows "Gucci Gang," as his new track debuts at No. 24.
Lil Pump lands his second entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, as "Esskeetit" opens at No. 24 (on the list dated April 28).
Following its first full week of tracking after its April 12 release, "Esskeetit" debuts with 22.2 million U.S. streams and 10,000 downloads sold in the week ending April 19, according to Nielsen Music. It debuts at No. 13 on the Streaming Songs chart and No. 47 on Digital Song Sales.
The song concurrently debuts at No. 12 on the Hot Rap Songs chart and No. 16 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.
The track's title, "Esskeetit," is a slurred pronunciation of the phrase "let's get it," which the MC says in many of his songs.
"Esskeetit" follows Lil Pump's breakthrough hit "Gucci Gang," which climbed to No. 3 on the Hot 100 in December and reached No. 2 on both Hot Rap Songs and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The new song is Lil Pump's fifth entry on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

Hot 100 Chart Moves: Zayn's 'Let Me' Debuts, Camila Cabello & Imagine Dragons Hit New Highs in Top 20 News By Xander Zellner and Gary Trust | April 24, 2018 2:56 PM EDT
Zayn earns his seventh solo entry post-1D. Plus, gains for "Never Be the Same" & "Whatever It Takes." Zayn scores his first unaccompanied entry on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated April 28) in two years, as "Let Me" opens at No. 73. The song arrives with 8.1 million U.S. streams and 12,000 downloads sold in the tracking week ending April 19, according to Nielsen Music, and also debuts at No. 43 on the Digital Song Sales chart.
The song added 3.6 million all-format radio audience impressions in the week ending April 22 and bows at No. 40 on the Pop Songs airplay chart. "Let Me" is Zayn's seventh solo Hot 100 entry, following his 2015 departure from one Direction, and his first unaccompanied charted title since "Like I Would" in 2016. (1D earned 19 Hot 100 entries with Zayn as a member before he left the group.) Carrie Underwood's 'Cry Pretty' Is First Country No. 1 on Digital Song Sales Chart Since 2014 News By Jim Asker | April 24, 2018 12:23 PM EDT
Carrie Underwood's "Cry Pretty," which she performed live for the first time at the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards April 15, soars 20-5 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs chart (dated April 28). Released April 11, the track jumps 4-1 on Country Digital Songs Sales with 54,000 downloads sold in its first full week of tracking (April 13-19; up from 21,000), according to Nielsen Music, becoming Underwood's sixth No. 1 on the survey and first since 2015's "Smoke Break."
"Pretty" concurrently becomes Underwood's first No. 1 on the all-genre Digital Song Sales survey, where it's the first country leader since Jason Aldean's "Burnin' It Down," which topped the Aug. 9, 2014-dated tally. It's the first such song by a woman since Taylor Swift's "Begin Again" (Oct. 13, 2012). "Pretty" additionally boasts 3.8 million U.S. streams (up from 782,000).
Underwood notches her 27th total and consecutive Hot Country Songs top 10, encompassing all of her country singles promoted to the format, excluding holiday fare. She began her run with her first country single, "Jesus, Take the Wheel," which in 2006 became the first of her 14 No. 1s. Underwood extends the longest streak of top 10 promoted singles from a career's start on Hot Country Songs. Tracy Lawrence ranks second with 19 in 1992-97. On the all-genre Billboard Hot 100, "Pretty" debuts at No. 48.

Taylor Swift Earns First Top 40 Country Airplay Hit Since 2013, Thanks to Sugarland Collab 'Babe' News By Jim Asker | April 24, 2018 12:34 PM EDT
Plus new top 10s from Luke Combs and Blake Shelton "Babe," the latest single from the newly reunited Sugarland, the duo of Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush, features Taylor Swift, and the collaboration debuts at No. 27 on Billboard's Country Airplay chart (dated April 28) with 8.1 million impressions, according to Nielsen Music. On Hot Country Songs, which blends airplay, streaming and sales data, "Babe" begins at No. 48.
The track is from Sugarland's June 8 LP Bigger, the duo's first album since 2010.
Notably, Swift scores her first top 40 Country Airplay hit since December 2013, when "Red" reached No. 7. Before shifting to pop, Swift banked seven Country Airplay No. 1s among 18 top 10s (in 2006-13). "[Taylor] reached out. We [have] known each other for many years," Nettles told Billboard at the 53rd Academy of Country Music Awards on April 15. "When she was first getting started, we had just had our first little EP out, called Premium Quality Tunes. She still has a copy of it that we signed for her when we played a couple of shows together. She was excited we were getting back together and reached out and said, 'Hey, I have a song.' "That is a short list, ladies and gentlemen, of people to whom she has said, 'Hey, I have a song, you want to sing it?' So we said, 'Yeah!' "
Swift peaked at No. 41 on the Country Airplay chart dated Jan. 6 with ballad "New Year's Day," from her latest album, reputation. "Babe," "New Year's Day" and her four-week Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 "Shake It Off" (a week at No. 58 in 2014, thanks to adventurous country programmers) mark Swift's three entries on Country Airplay since "Red."
BLAKE'S BIG 3-0: Blake Shelton scores his 30th Hot Country Songs top 10, as "I Lived It" darts 14-10. After he performed the song at the ACM Awards April 15, it hikes by 226 percent to 19,000 sold; 6 percent to 3.7 million U.S. streams; and 3 percent to 24.6 million in radio audience. TOP 10 'NUMBER': Luke Combs' third hit lifts into the Country Airplay top 10 (11-9), increasing by 11 percent to 24.7 million audience impressions. It follows his "Hurricane" and "When It Rains It Pours," which ruled for two weeks apiece.

J. Cole Breaks Drake's 24-Hour Streaming Record on Apple Music With 'KOD,' Nearly Double Its Spotify Streams NewsDigital and Mobile By Billboard Staff | April 23, 2018 11:38 AM EDT
With his album KOD garnering 64.5 million streams in its first 24 hours in the U.S., J. Cole set a new record on Apple Music for most album streams in 24 hours, eclipsing Drake's Views by almost a million streams, according to Apple, while his album clocked a record 36.7 million first-day streams on Spotify in the U.S.
Apple Music's subscribers stream more hip-hop on average than do Spotify's more than 71 million paying subscribers; Cole now owns seven of Apple's ten most-streamed songs in a 24-hour period. Helping Cole break Drake's record is Apple Music's fast-growing subscriber base, now at 40 million paying customers. When Views was released in 2016, Apple Music counted about 13 million paying subscribers. Apple Music's subscribers also stream more hip-hop on average than do Spotify's more than 71 million paying subscribers.
The strong performance shows how streaming is helping some artists succeed without traditional record deals. Cole launched his own label, Dreamville Records, in 2007 alongside longtime manager Ib Hamad, and has since signed a half-dozen artists to the imprint. In 2014, Dreamville inked a distribution agreement with Interscope, and Cole himself brought his solo efforts to Dreamville/Roc Nation/Interscope after his deal with Columbia ended following the release of his third album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, in December 2014.
