Going in, I thought this song would be higher in my ranking. I will always have a soft spot for Bob Marley.

#26 was in the running for top 3 lowest SDs basically the whole submissions process, until three people ranked it bottom 10, top 5, and top 10 in quick succession. The movements are pretty boring; aside from two top half appearances after said highest ranks, this song was stuck between 26 and 33.

Solid song, would have been higher in a lesser rankdown. Starting to sound like a broken record here.

I failed to mention the 3-way tie at #43 because I was in a hurry. There's no way I'll forget about the tie at #25 because, not only does it start off the top half, not only is it the 9th highest SD, but it involves a 1 loss! The song is a statistical anomaly, because it only has five top 25 ranks (although it does have eight top 29 ranks). It also has four bottom 10s, one being a bottom 5. However, its high ranks are high. After the 1, the next three highest ranks might have you singing "Amber" (two of the latter number, by the way). And the other top half rank is nearly a top 15. Somehow, after 3 submissions, this song never left the top half, and was frequently in the top 20.

So, the big, dirty secret of this rankdown for me is that this was my favorite first listen. I feel like that's a shame, because this is the kind of song I would champion for years...and yet, I wasn't really familiar with it until this rankdown.

#24 has nine top 256 rankings. Two are top 15, and one is close to top 5. It only has one bottom 5 and one bottom 10. The song never entered the bottom 15, and hovered in either side of the halfway line, reaching a height of 18 fairly late.

Strap in for #23. It's the 3rd highest SD, and it's going to clear two people's bottom 10s as well as two people's 1s. The two 1s had two more top 10s to assist them, plus two top 20s and one more top half rank. On the lower end, the two bottom 10 clear-ers are joined by two bottom 5s. The song spent three movements in the bottom 10, then zipped to the top 25 in three lists. It would experience one more rough patch, nearly falling out of the top 30, before arriving here.

Hang in there; I promise the top:bottom 25 ratios will start looking right in a few reveals. #22 is our lowest-finishing song to make a top 10 appearance--five ballots in, to be exact. It never left the top half, but if you submitted later on, chances are you weren't kind to this song. You might have even been the bottom 10, the bottom 5 who is clearing their bottom 10, or the 50. Ten people put it in their top 27; six put it top 20; three put it top 10; one put it top 5.

Seven top half ranks for #21. Two people will greatly miss a top 10, and one will be devastated to lose a high top 5. It's got top 20s to spare, as well--three of them. Only two bottom 10s, but one is a bottom 5, and one of these people clears their bottom 10 with this reveal. The song went from bottom 5 to top 20 in three submissions, and only left the top 20 four times after that. Unfortunately, one of those times was at the last moment.

30. Bennie and the Jets - Elton JohnThis ranking makes no fucking sense. So close to making my top 10 too. 29. Superstar - CarpentersHere is the kind of Pop ballad that puts me in a deep comatose sleep. 28. Don't Look Back - BostonWTF? This is a classic rock radio staple. The guitar strums in the intro already clue you in of the power this song is gonna have. This is pure DREAM ROCK heaven. So dissapointed with anyone who ranked this below top 5.. It would have hurt less if you all just got in line and kicked me in the nuts. BTW, this is the radio version. The original LP version is something epic and out of this world. It brings back the intro for one last time and the guitar solo is much longer. 27. Waiting in Vain - Bob Marley & The WailersThis has way too much wailing for me. 26. September Gurls - Big StarFirst time listen. This was pretty kick ass tune. Like folky rock with balls.. Love the way they spelled "Gurls" like Katy Perry did in her big hit with Snoop. 25. Year of the Cat - Al StewartNever cared for this one. I'm a Leo which makes me a cat, but It just goes on and on with little melody and tempo change, and it would have been better if he sang about Lions and Tigers. 24. The Rubberband Man - The SpinnersThis band is really cool. My favorite will always be "Working My Way Back To You"23. Use Me - Bill WithersI found this one to be extra funky. Vocals were really good too. 22. Don't Leave Me This Way - Thelma HoustonClassic melodic wonder. Disco was hot, and even better with great vocals. I still sorta prefer the Hi- NRG version of the Communards.
21. Midnight Train to Georgia - Gladys Knight & the PipsNot a big Gladys and pips fan, but I do like all my songs that I ranked #30 and up. I still have three bottom 10's here. What's taking so long?
