Ella Mai (born 3 November 1994) is an English singer and songwriter signed to DJ Mustard’s 10 Summers label. She has released three EPs so far, Time and Change in 2016 and Ready in early 2017. In 2018, cut from her Ready EP, "Boo'd Up", was released as her debut radio single and became her breakout hit by reaching #5 on Hot 100. The song earned her two Grammy nominations including "Song of the Year" and "Best R&B Song".
Her self-titled debut album, Ella Mai, was released on October 12, 2018 and debuted at #5 on Billboard 200. It has further spawned two hit singles: "Trip" and "Shot Clock".

I hope it has more smash traditional R&B jams on it.

Along with "Boo'd Up" and "Trip", the album also includes "Naked" as a bonus track.

I like the "Trip" single cover more than the album cover too.

Ella Mai slammed for 'forcing' fellow rising R&B 'Jacquees' to remove his remix of 'Trip' after it recieves more attention than the original. The remix has since been removed from all music platforms, including YouTube and SoundCloud.
How do you feel about this?
I, personally, think it's petty and unnecessary. I mean, sure, I know she'd rather have hers be more successful, but even if Jacquee's remix did do better, wouldn't she be credited too? Plus if the remix was properly released and promoted, it could've helped the original gain more traction. I don't know what she was thinking.

The remix was unauthorized! There's a process for situations like this and there's probably a remix already lined up. I don't blame her at all for shutting it down.

The twitter comments are embarrassing. Unbelievable people are defending Jac and not seeing this is stealing.

So strange. How is this situation different from any other cover / remix?

Plus if the remix was properly released and promoted, it could've helped the original gain more traction. I don't know what she was thinking. She was thinking that the remix was not properly released and promoted. Fin. And this is probably 10 Summers/Interscope's doing, not Ella's. I don't think she or her label would have cared much if the remix was only on Soundcloud; Boo'd Up got a ton of unofficial remixes that didn't get shut down, but I don't think any of them were uploaded to Youtube. Youtube is a chart component - and more importantly, as Fat Ass Kelly Price pointed out, it's money. It's also the streaming platform where Ella tends to perform most strongly. So if the Trip remix were to take off there then either a) Ella would lose money, b/c views were going to some remix video that wasn't being properly tracked; or b) those views would be tracked, but then she'd have to officially credit Jacquees and start sharing ALL of Trip's revenue with him, and that's not something that a major label just does on a whim. Feeding an artist who isn't even on their roster was not in the release budget. But I'm not at all surprised that so many people don't understand the legal and monetary issues behind it. It just sucks that they'd rather paint this as a malicious move on Ella or her label's part than step back for a sec and think about it. I'm also a little dubious as to whether this remix actually got 'more' attention than the original - if anything it got attention precisely b/c Ella's name was attached to it, and Ella is hot right now - but I'm over three hours late to this party so I have no way of knowing.

Look forward to this album. I'm happy her label is making sure it's striking while the iron is hot.

This is one of my most anticipated albums of the year. I’m hoping that the album has a bit of diversity and isn’t all in the same vain.

Was about to come post it! YAS at the H.E.R. collab. Ew at John's awful voice. I'll be skipping that.

Aww I like that there is a collaboration with H.E.R. I wasn't expecting that.
And "Trip" is actually the official first single unless "Boo'd Up" would be tacked as a bonus track? I hope they do that so it could go gold from streaming.
