Maybe I haven't been in the mood for this album, but it feels underwhelming to me as an album.
There's a nice 7-track EP in the second half, from "Boo'd Up" to "Easy" minus maybe "Close". Contrastingly, the first half sounds like a bunch of demos.

I do think that Good Bad and Dangerous are the weakest links. Even though I like Dangerous in isolation, I find myself just wanting to start with the blissful sequence that follows after the smash of Sauce onward.
Too. Much. Sauce. Drinking. Smoking. Doses. Emotions. You seem adamant but you ain’t pressed my line.

Good Bad Dangerous Sauce Shot Clock Boo’d Up Own It Run My Mouth Gut Feeling Trip Easy Naked
For such a long album, I think it’s a smooth and cohesive listen and I’m especially happy it’s not a collection of BU rehashes or padded with tracks from her EPs.

Not as strong as I was hoping based on "Boo'd Up" and "Trip" (those and "Gut Feeling" are easily my favorites) but it's a solid debut. They could have trimmed it by several tracks though.

This is doing a Teyana on me because after four listens, I honestly love it start to finish now.
This girl (or her writers) has a way with a hook because the hook on Good Bad is quite catchy just as Boo'd Up and Trip. I wouldn't be shocked or mind if Good Bad is the next single (if her label continues the same hooky singles).
Anywho, I hear Destiny Child in Own It.

I really need to listen to this album more but I've been too busy dropping it around my house to the new Usher. One thing I need to comment on is the complete dust so many of you are paying "Close." Easily the most effortlessly sexy song on the album. That's some grown folks sexy sh*t right there.

Okay, I've been stewing with this album all morning. I still think it's too long and could use more variety, but after really concentrating on the lyrics, I have to commend her, she brought her pen game to this album. I'm such a sucker for song structure and that kind of "meat and potatoes" song writing. Every song is so fleshed out, pre-choruses, post-choruses, bridges, outros, etc. The only song she sells short on that front is "Run My Mouth," but that's still a jam.
Such a promising new talent, I hope she breaks away from DJ Mustard next time and works with more dynamic producers.

The lyrics really are a highlight. So many well written choruses, verses, and bridges. Looking for ways to plan a date around “Close.”
“Cause I never thought I’d ever hear me say, I just can’t breathe without my baby” — just, wow.

What we think her first week looking like?
I'm hoping she breaks 100K SPS and it would be great if she goes as high as 150K SPS

Projected to debut win 50-55k SPS (13-15k sales). I knew six figures would be a stretch; she’s still R&B after all.

Char is such a bitch. Who cares what people thought if she just said that was her favorite? He can never let a Nicki positive comment go without saying something negative. Those checks from Atlantic must be GEWD.

#5 debut with 69k SPS (17k sales). I guess that's a solid debut in these times. I guess her fan base really is the streaming type, since her actual sales make up for less than 1/3 of her total. I kinda expected more though, coming off a Top 10 Pop hit (and long-running #1 Adult R&B) plus a rising second single.

Ella's final sales actually exceeded her Hits projection by about 14-19k. That's a pretty good sign to me! The buzz is there.
Ella is probably one of the few new artists who is truly hurt by the limited physical availability (as far as I can tell, only Target is carrying the CD in stock in stores; otherwise you have to order it online). Older UAC fans aren't on the streaming boat yet - I'm not sure they even caught on much to buying digital tbh - so that's potentially lost sales.

When I went to Target in the afternoon on the day it was released, they hadn’t even put it on the shelf. FYE has it (the few that are left) and I haven’t been to Walmart but some of them here seem to still carry all the newest releases. Still, it’s a very limited segment.

I’m obsessed with her album lately. It’s a really solid debut (there’s nothing I don’t care for, save “Whatchamacallit”), so I’m thrilled to see it being so successful for her.
Early standouts include “Trip” (although I already knew it), “Gut Feeling”, “Shot Clock”, “Own It”, “Run My Mouth”, and “Close.”

Picked this up on a whim and the standouts are, in order:
1. Shot Clock 2. Cheapshot 3. Boo'd Up (I really can't believe this isn't a sample. It sounds like a timeless R&B song I grew up with. Impressive!) 4. Easy (gorgeous and proof that she is actually a talented vocalist) 5. Naked 6. Sauce 7. Own It 8. Close 9. Run My Mouth 10. Everything
Bonus: 11. Trip 12. Whatchamacallit
So, yeah, I definitely slept on this girl, but at least her debut has only been a couple weeks, LOL. We love an R&B girl! B+

Three weeks later and I can’t get enough of this album. So many standouts, she really could release basically anything to follow-up Trip.

Shot Clock is my current obsession but I’d be satisfied with anything as the next single sans the Chris and John collabs.
