This one's...interesting. An actual spoken word song getting airplay on Alt radio in 2004. I do like it pretty decently though, would have been in my top 40 here. MEDIABASE EXTRA

The band behind "Breakin'" in the 2005 Alt rankdown almost had another charter. This is an actual extra in the Active rankdown, interestingly. MEDIABASE EXTRA

The last extra of this set is...another very solid indie rock discovery. Why couldn't Alt radio in 2004 have been more kind towards this type of stuff instead of providing extra spins to derivative post-grunge? MEDIABASE EXTRA

Extras: Mexican Radio - Authority ZeroLOL! I didn't know this existed. I used to like The Wall Of Voodoo original. That was an 80's KROQ classic. back when KROQ used to be cool. Two-Timing Touch and Broken Bones - The HivesGood band. I like mostly all garage rock. The Cars "Got A Lot On My Head" could very well be a pioneering garage Rock song. Get It to Go - To My SurpriseNever heard this, but it has a garage rock vibe. Also sounds like great music to work out to. Join Me in Death - HIMMore HIM music that would have made my top songs on this rankdown. Mir - The KicksWow! I really flipped for this poppunk back in the days. This one reminded me of Better Than Ezra's "Good". Loved that one. Breakdown - InstructionToo melancholy for me. Pass. Everything I've Known - KornThis band was more straight forward rock back then. No elektro shite. This one sounds just fine. Don't Believe - Letter KillsAngry sounding poppunk. I don't like it. Pass. Y Control - Yeah Yeah YeahsThis band was hit or miss for me, but I do like female rock vocals. Y'all Want a Single - KornThis was crap. Is he saying "suck That"? Give Me More - Apartment 26I don't remember this, but it had a sort of Metal Stray Cats vibe to it. I kind of liked it. alt.end - The CureI normally like Cure's song for Smith's vocals alone. This song was kind of boring tho. Give me somthing more like "Boys Don't Cry" or "Why Can't I Be You". My Coco - stellastarr*Never heard this. damn I loved those vocals. This sounds like a fun song. Dry Your Eyes - The StreetsI might have had a different #98 if this song had made the final list?

this was the problem with Alt radio back then...all of the good stuff got relagated to extra status while the schlock rock was in high rotation...these extras are AWESOME! these would've all made my Top 40:
Hives - Two-Timing Touch and Broken Bones Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Y Control Cure - alt.end stellastarr* - My Coco Streets - Dry Your Eyes Ambulance Ltd - Primitive Walkmen - Rat Postal Service - Such Great Heights Lazyboy - Underwear Goes Inside The Pants Riddlin Kids - Stop The World Beastie Boys - Right Right Now Now Evanescence - My Immortal NERD - She Wants To Move Stills - Still In Love Song Secret Machines - Nowhere Again
& several other of these extras would've done decently as well on my list

let's give the next set a spin.
Primitive (The Way I Treat You) - Ambulance LTD Well this wasn't bad at all. Good vocals is the first thing I noticed. This goes into "proper Alternative Rock music" folder.
Beautiful Night - Burden Brothers I got into this from the first note. That's what I like in music. very uptempo.
The Rat - The Walkmen Another good one I remember. Got that Strokes vibe I really dug back then.
Such Great Heights - The Postal Service Hey, This was a top 10 hit, on my personal chart. The soft piano and percussion sounds, in the backround ,gives it some 80's vibes. I would have most likely put this one in my top 20 if it had appeared on this list.
Stay in Shadow - Finger Eleven I loved the guitars in this, but his vocal delivery could have been so much better. Trying to hard to be Papa Roach. That's wasn't a good idea at all.
Freedom Fighters - The Music Now this rocks. This is something you would find me shouting along to if you drove by my pad. I hope this one is on Active 2004?
Stop the World - Riddlin' Kids This has some Green Day "Hithin A Ride" vibes. I like that rhythm, and the fact that it's not afraid to be LOUD.
Right Right Now Now - Beastie Boys Who ever told this group of guys they had vocals tones for radio was sadly mistaken.
My Immortal - Evanescence Gorgeous Goth Metal ballad. Reminds me a lot of Letters From The Fire - "At War". I would have put this as high as I could; which would have been hard, cuz this year was strong, but definitely top 40.
She Wants to Move - N.E.R.D. This was bad, but not bottom 5 bad.
Still in Love Song - The Stills Great sounding bassline. Never heard it before, but surely would get some love on my list.
Recognize - Flaw This is the kind of Alt rock that bores me.
Nowhere Again - Secret Machines Eh this one was just alright. The vocals here didn't do much to capture my attention. The catchy chorus makes up for it tho.

Underwear Goes Inside the Pants - LazyboyWhat the actual fuck was that? Total torture to my rap sensitive ears. I would have tanked this song so low, you guys would have had to scuba dive just to save it.

Slightly less than two days left to submit! In the meantime, I'll be posting our final set of Mediabase extras. Whereas the last set was heavy on indie rock, this set is heavy on a different genre - punk rock, particularly of the poppier kind! ( American Idiot, watch out...)
