Wow, Canada has no taste. Not much of a shocker knowing their national anthem. Luckily for us, our government won't force us to stand up and listen to it when it's played before sports. ;)

I thought "rhythmic" was another euphemism for "black" like "urban" is. You're sort of right, but that is a recent misnomer. The term rhythmic (in regards to an Official Radio Format) dates back to the early 90s when the format played everything from Madonna & Jon Secada to the #1 rock power ballad from The Heights. When Biggie and Jodeci (to name few) blew up by the mid 90s it swung to Hip-Hop, but even by 2000 you were getting a lot of the Britney / Max Martin and Ricky Martin stuff. The 2000s were an enormous time for r&b and Hip/Hop and I thought the composition of Rhythmic had permanently changed but was shocked when poppier white acts came in a bit in the early 2010s. My expereience is that the Rhythmic CHR format was originally created to be a more "rhythmic" hybrid of a pop station - danceable and/or more beat driven - an urban crossover format of sorts - avoiding the rock driven stuff. It was 87-88 when Billboard added a "Crossover" chart, which tracked songs being played on these types of stations. Some were full on dance stations and some leaned more hip hop and r&b, and some were a mix. By the 90s, the biggest Mainstream CHR songs were often played on Rhythmic stations, even the huge rock-tinged stuff, because, well, money. Rhythmic stations' playlists ebb and flow in regards to dance music and pop at this point - but the urban crossover hits are its mainstay. I grew up near Chicago/Milwaukee and was able to listen to both B96 and Hot 102, both Rhythmic stations in their prime. Lots of very clubby dance/house music that wasn't on top 40 stations, mixed with pop and R&B. Ah, memories. Those were the days.

Why did IDGAF stay on the chart, despite dropping below 50 and being over 20 weeks? I mean, I love the song but i don't know why it happened lol. it was probably gaining but only fell because of the ye debuts Yeah if a current song is gaining in a metric, it can bypass the recurrent rule, regardless of activity above it. "Recurrent" is the operative word. It refers to a popular song that has already had its commercial peak but still lingering. A current song that is showing gains isn't a recurrent, it's still active, and is thus given the opportunity to reach its full potential.

The Crossover 30 chart was great - and unlike anything we had ever seen before at the time. It was way overdue and was a direct response to the explosive success of the new Power 106 in LA which is credited as the first real Rhythmic station of the modern era (Unlike say the disco stations of the 70s). I was kinda bummed when the Crossover 30 morphed into the Top 40 / Rhythmic Crossover chart, but it was clear that the Exposés were transitioning into the SWVs.

I guess Billboard decided to make an exception.

it was probably gaining but only fell because of the ye debuts One would think that, but it didn’t even have a bullet. I guess Billboard decided to make an exception. Billboard's staff is smart enough to recognize when a song is still potentially growing. For example, it would make no sense if a song was at #49, then goes off the chart, then "re-enters" at #48. If it continues to fall for another week or two they'll probably move it to recurrent.

Billboard has a few exceptions where it lets songs stay past the recurrent mark:
-The song’s gaining overall, aka a bullet. *Note that Billboard doesn’t list bullets if a song falls too many positions. Head Over Boots in 2016 had something like a 51-58 fall on week 21 but was kept on because it was still gaining in points despite lack of bullet. -The song’s gaining in either general radio or its primary format, indicating its status as an active single.
It appears that, with gains on Pop Songs and Radio Songs, IDGAF falls into category number two.

I lowkey really hope that Rich Sex does well so Lil Wayne can keep up his Year End streak Isn't Wayne finally in a position to release his album before the end of this year? Given how his influence is all over the popular rap of today (seriously, it's staggering how so many of these new rappers are channeling him), he's one of the veterans that streaming could benefit like it did Kanye. He should be able to have at least one song from that do well enough to make the YE chart.

it was probably gaining but only fell because of the ye debuts One would think that, but it didn’t even have a bullet. I guess Billboard decided to make an exception. A bullet isn't the deciding factor. It's something that is assigned to songs showing the strongest gains in any given week. It doesn't mean that songs without a bullet aren't still showing growth. I'll say it again - recurrency by definition is something that explains itself. It's not all about a strict set of rules that applies to all songs. It's designed to allow currently active songs to reach their full potential, by removing songs that have already done so. If you want to look at it like an exception, you're free to, but this isn't the first time, and it won't be the last. It's standard procedure.

They have a sort of "Rhythmic AC" station in the UK called Kisstory ("AC" isn't really the right term, but they seem to play music mostly from about 1995 - 2011 which is quite odd): planetradio.co.uk/kisstory/playlist/In the past 2 hours they've played Benny Benassi, Pink, Artful Dodger, Aaliyah, Outkast, Fatboy Slim, Fugees, LL Cool J, Chris Brown, Daniel Bedingfield, Roger Sanchez, Calvin Harris, Bob Sinclar, Craig David, Destiny's Child, Rihanna and a bunch of house/dance/UK garage one-hit wonders from Europe. Even a bit of Christian music with Mary Mary - Shackles lol. I think probably the biggest indicator of the recent shift in the US rhythmic chart at the moment is how low One Kiss is. I'm sure if this was a few years ago it would be doing much better.

I remember back in very late 90s and first part of the 00s there was another wave of dance music radio stations in many larger markets, including mine. Then they all turned into something else rather abruptly. I won't be surprised when new stations pop up if and when there's another big moment for full-on dance music.

There was a 3+ year gap between the start of Soundscan and the first top 10 debut of the 90s I've always wondered why that was the case? Did market conditions start to be so abruptly different in mid-1995 with the first top ten debuts, or were sales points (this seemed mainly to drive the high debuts) somehow mitigated the first few weeks and then a rule change in mid-1995 allowed the "true" sales to flood in from week one and enable the high debuts? So Soundscan had an indirect effect - accurate sales But... At this time, a single needed to be released in order to chart Common practice that was just beginning to catch on...build up the airplay to increase demand....then release the single

On Streaming Songs, the track vaults 7-2.
Chicago-based rapper Juice WRLD notches his first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated June 16), as “Lucid Dreams” climbs 15-9 in its fourth week on the tally.
As previously reported, Post Malone scores his second No. 1 on the Hot 100 with "Psycho," featuring Ty Dolla $ign.

They also changed the rule for singles charting in early 1995. Before you could chart a week early (on the same date as the label shipped the single to stores), so it could chart solely on airplay points. In 1995 they changed it so that you needed at least 7 days of actual retail piece count sales.
This change killed off that unnatural first week lower chart position that existed from late 1991 to early 1995.

Kanye West Leads Streaming Songs Chart for First Time With 'All Mine'
News
By Kevin Rutherford | June 13, 2018 3:50 PM EDT
The song also rules the On-Demand Streaming Songs ranking.
Kanye West reaches No. 1 on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart for the first time, as “All Mine,” from his No. 1 Billboard 200 album ye, debuts atop the chart dated June 16 with 36.3 million streams, according to Nielsen Music.
“Mine” exceeds the No. 2 peak of “Bound 2” on Streaming Songs in December 2013.
"All Mine" is also West’s top debut on the chart, besting the No. 4 start of “Gone” featuring Cam’ron and Consequence in October 2013.
“Mine” shares top 10 space with fellow Ye tracks “Yikes” (No. 3, 34.2 million) and “Ghost Town” (No. 8, 29.7 million), with the entire seven-track album making appearances on the tally; “Wouldn’t Leave” (No. 11, 26.3 million), “Violent Crimes” (No. 14, 23.6 million ), “I Thought About Killing You” (No. 15, 23.4 million) and “No Mistakes” (No. 17, 21.2 million) also debut.
“Mine” concurrently debuts at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, bested by “Yikes,” which starts at No. 8 thanks to more digital downloads and radio airplay.
“Mine” also becomes West’s first No. 1 on On-Demand Streaming Songs (34.1 million on-demand audio streams), and he holds down the chart’s entire top five.
Ye opened atop the Billboard 200 with 208,000 equivalent album units, his eighth straight album to lead (and debut at No. 1 on) the chart.

Kanye West Leads Streaming Songs Chart for First Time With 'All Mine'
I still trying to calculate how All Mine is only #11 while Yikes is #8 on the Hot 100. Both songs were so close in points (something like 24,963 vs. 24,915) that it's hard to find ways to put Lucid Dreams and The Middle in between.

Probably a few thousand unaccounted for sales

Gorillaz Score First Hot 100 Entry Since 2006 & Bring George Benson Back to the Chart After 33 Years
6/15/2018 by Kevin Rutherford
"Humility" enters the Hot 100 at No. 85, as well as Hot Rock Songs at No. 7, while Gorillaz climb to their best-ever rank on the Social 50 chart.
Gorillaz return to multiple Billboard charts, including the Billboard Hot 100 for the first time since 2006, with two new songs from the cartoon band's new album, The Now Now, due June 29.
"Humility," featuring jazz guitar legend George Benson and serving as the lead single from the new set, starts at No. 7 on Billboard's Hot Rock Songs chart (dated June 16) on the strength of 7.5 million U.S. streams and 8,000 downloads sold in the tracking week, according to Nielsen Music.
The track also becomes both Gorillaz and Benson's first entry on the Adult Alternative Songs airplay chart, starting at No. 40, while also bubbling under Alternative Songs.
"Humility" concurrently debuts on the Hot 100 at No. 85, marking the first appearance on the chart for Gorillaz since 2006 and Benson's first since 1985. Gorillaz last made the Hot 100 with "Dare" in 2006; their top-charting hit, "Feel Good Inc.," peaked at No. 14 in August 2005.
Benson earns his 15th Hot 100 entry, after landing his first 14 in 1976-85. He's charted four top 10s: "This Masquerade," his debut hit (No. 10, 1976); "On Broadway" (No. 7, 1978); "Give Me the Night" (No. 4, 1980); and "Turn Your Love Around" (No. 5, 1982).
Additionally, Gorillaz' "Lake Zurich" debuts at No. 35 on Hot Rock Songs (985,000 streams; 1,000 sold).
Thanks to activity surrounding the songs, Gorillaz re-enter at their highest rank ever on the Social 50 chart, besting their prior No. 19 peak in April 2017. It's the band's first Social 50 appearance since last May, concurrent with the chart bow of its most recent album, Humanz.
The group earns 205,000 new YouTube subscribers, up 710 percent, according to Next Big Sound, helped by the premiere of the official video for "Humility." The hybrid live action/cartoon clip co-stars actor Jack Black.
The Now Now is Gorillaz's sixth studio album. Humanz started and peaked at a career-best-tying No. 2 on the Billboard 200 dated May 20, 2017 (earning 140,000 equivalent album units). Plastic Beach bowed and peaked at No. 2 in 2010.
