And I'm using sales instead of points because Billboard uses sales to create the YEC, the top artist chart and used sales to create the 2000's AOTD too.
The only charts to use inverse point system is the All Time Charts.

cemetrygate I know that. I've said myself that we don't know what metrics Billboard will prioritize so right now it's really open. Taylor outperforms Drake in some metrics and vice-versa. My two picks for the AOTD are Drake and Taylor Swift, but Billboard could do something else entirely and give it to someone else. We don't know what they're gonna do exactly.

Pure album sales on the Billboard 200 this decade according to Chartdata
Adele: 23,9 Million Taylor: 22.2 Million Drake: 11.3 Million
Digital album equivalent units (track sales+streams/excluding pure sales), counted since December 2014 according to Chartdata:
Drake: over 16 Million Taylor: over 4,5 Million Adele: over 2 Million
Pure sales of digital singles, representing mostly the first half of the decade (excluding features):
Tricky one because the RIAA certifies the streams i have already counted as albums
Taylor was the highest digital single seller of the 2000s with 24 Million, she was reported to have sold over 100 Million so 75 Million+ this decade Drake had about 45 Million before he went on to certify heavily streaming units as singles Adele has 30 Million certified singles so we will give her them
Certified features:
Drake has over 75 Million certified single features (excluding this latin stuff). Adele and Taylor have no significant achievements in this department
Both statistics exclude of course missing certs and some singles are in between certification status.
Tour gross, according to Touringdata:
Taylor 910 Million $ Drake 380 Million $ Adele 240 Million $
Social media:
Taylor>Drake>Adele
Airplay:
All 3 enjoyed some decent airplay on US radio
This maby is not 100% accurate, but this is close to what those artists have accomplished the past 10 years in the US. They are the big 3. Itâs up to Billboard now.

Hope they give it to Taylor. I feel like streaming didnât really take off until 2016 and they weigh pure sales a bit more. Also count features a bit less
IMO Taylor was the most influential artist this past decade

Drake will def be #1, but #2-5 will be harder to predict between Taylor Swift, Rihanna, Adele and Bruno Mars.

Drake popularized a style of music that is predominant in the most popular/successful genre of music in the US today - rap. Countless artists who are popular and successful today cite him as a major influence on their style of music. That is influence. I'd even argue that Rihanna has been more influential that Taylor Swift this decade. Taylor has been one of the most successful musicians this decade, yes. Influential? No.

No. Rihanna HAS been the most âinfluentialâ Female artists of the 2010âs by miles. Thereâs nothing to even argue. Itâs just a shame that sheâs forsaken her music to create an even bigger cultural phenomenon since 2017. From music to image to fashion... and back again. Several artists compiled albums purposely filled with songs Rihanna rejected and several Pop songwriters have written songs in the âstyleâ of which they assumed Rihanna would sing/vocalise them. Pitchfork highlighted Rihanna as the most influential âvocal stylistâ of the 21st century thus far, and the biggest fashion muse. In what dimension does Ms. Swift surpass that? As for Drake, his influence is cemented and has been since âTake Care/IYRTITLâ. As Lil Kim Said... âFighting for a spot... Child please I'm solidifiedâ. đđđ

Can we please remember that the AOTD will be decided on charts, not on influence which isn't currently quantifiable?

I'd even argue that Rihanna has been more influential that Taylor Swift this decade. Taylor has been one of the most successful musicians this decade, yes. Influential? No. Yes drake defined a sound in rap which was quite clever because r&b has been dead pretty much all of 2010s yet the formula of r@b was still in demand. This decade r&b tried to be hip hop so bad and lost itâs essence. It became about telling hers they were just a number and degrading women. R&b used to give women props and also give them what they wanted from a man...enters drake. At the start of the decade drake was criticized for being âsoftâ but his formula worked. He reigns supreme. I think he will end up #1 Taylor #2 Adele #3 Rihanna #4 5-7 has bruno, Bieber, sheeran fighting for the spot and I think top 10 will also include Katy perry and maybe one direction maroon 5 or Ariana. I think Eminem might make it or just miss it and possibly beyonce might miss the top 10 as well as nicki.

If touring and the social 50 would hold no significant weight, BTS would have never finished #10 and #8 on the top artist year-end chart. There are plenty of artists who have quiet outperformed them on the hot100 and/or the BB200, yet Billboard gave them back-to-back top10 finishes.

Rihanna more influential than Taylor đ
Rihanna has the least artistry of any big artist this decade.
It's the classic defense of butthurt stans that can't compete on sales or awards so just make up unquantifiable things like "impact" and "influence"
Side note: Is there a way to mute people on here so you don't see their posts?

It's a blessing when someone has good reading comprehension. Influence has nothing to do with stats, it has to do with influence. You can search what the word means. If you had taken the time out to actually go through the thread and see the numerous posts listing every artist's stats, you'd know that we had already considered them. It's a big mistake trying to undermine Rihanna. She has more #1 hits this decade than anyone else. She has spent the second most weeks at #1 this decade after Drake. She has more top 10 hits and has spent more weeks in the top 10 this decade than Taylor. She's the digital sales artist of the decade. She's the most streamed female artist of the decade. Since you love stats so much. Don't act like because she hasn't released an album in almost 4 years, she isn't a beast. Taylor will more than likely be the #1 or the #2 artist of the decade, but there are a ton of metrics Rihanna outdoes her in. Rihanna has released 4 albums this decade, with 1 of them being released in the streaming era. Taylor has released 5 albums this decade with 3 of them being released in the streaming era. Artistry doesn't matter when it comes to influence. Some of the biggest female musicians didn't write or produce their songs and they've inspired and influenced dozens of artists who did. We know artistry isn't a quantifiable metric, but Taylor has inspired no one. She was a mediocre country singer and she became a mediocre pop singer. Rihanna is a far more capable and diverse vocalist than she is. I can't name any artists who point directly to Taylor having an influence on their craft. I can, however, point you to several artists who have been inspired by Rihanna as a musician, a fashion icon and a business mogul. Don't get it twisted. I love Taylor. My post history about her will tell you that. I'm a huge fan, but I also know when to be honest about certain things. This didn't have to be a Taylor Swift versus Rihanna post, but it seems like that's what you wanted.

She has plenty of good singles and also quite a lot of not good singles. Honey you need to open your eyes if you don't think Taylor Swift has inspired everyone, there's an interview virtually every week with an up and coming songwriter who lists Taylor as one of their main inspirations. I'm sure plenty of people think Rihanna is cool, but people don't take up writing music because of her.

lights I get where you're coming from. I've applauded Taylor as one of the most respectable songwriters of this generation. I always highlight how she's one of the few female artists who have written albums entirely by themselves. She also produces and co-produces a lot of her songs. I know all of that. You list songwriting and an ability to play instruments as things that give her the edge over Rihanna, but those things speak to her ability as a musician, not her influence. I'm sure there are people who love that side of her, but for someone that talented, especially on her past 3 albums, Taylor has lagged and regressed as a songwriter. Even her stans mock how cheesy of a songwriter she has become. She was a more capable songwriter on he first 4 albums than on her last 3. Also, no one rates Taylor as a vocalist. Rihanna can hit notes Taylor can't and if you listened to her last album or went to her tour, you'd have noticed how better of a singer and live performer she has become. The fact of the matter is that they're both great. I consider them, along with a bunch of other artists who dominated throughout this decade, as current icons and future legends. No one can take away from what they've both achieved. I just know for a fact that Rihanna has inspired way more musicians than Taylor has, which was what this discussion was about in the first place.

I'm sure plenty of people think Rihanna is cool, but people don't take up writing music because of her. thegreatdivine has already G-A-T-H-E-R-E-D you but Iâll briefly intervene also. Whitney Houston and Celine Dion also have âmediocre discographiesâ, if not moreso than Rihanna. Moreover, neither artist wrote a single song in their entire careers, nor could they play any musical instruments, and their co-writing credits are extremely scarce to say the least. Nevertheless, NOBODY looks to Houston or Dion as musicians or for artistic merit simply because that wasnât their forte. However, they are/were two of the most gifted vocalists to ever grace contemporary music and thatâs where their influence and impact lies. Rihanna is nowhere close to either level as a âvocalistâ, technically speaking, but her voice is still extremely influential. This is why Pitchfork highlighted Rihanna as the âmost influential vocal stylist of our generationâ. ⢠How many Rihanna clones have been birthed worldwide since her debut, and especially this decade, and have even manipulated their voices to sound like hers? đ§ ⢠How many singers have purposely taken songs that Rihanna has rejected for the sake of creating their own albums, or scoring a hit single/several hit singles? đ§ ⢠How many singers have basically adopted Rihannaâs fashion sense and crafted their image around her? đ§ ⢠How many singers are now trying to expand their external business deals and ethics for the mere sake of wanting to replicate Rihannaâs success? đ§ THAT IS CULTURAL IMAPCT & INFLUENCE! Several critics have already highlighted certain music styles/sounds as the âRihanna soundâ. The only other artist that comes close to that type of influence in recent times is Drake. Also, seeing as you love statistics... Rihanna is the biggest hitmaker of the 21st century thus far, Globally, and is arguably the fourth biggest of all time (chart wise) behind The Beatles, Elvis Presley & Madonna, all of whom are either inactive, dead or living off their legacy and fanbase. Sheâs the biggest Digital act of all time, the most Streamed Female act AND the biggest U.S Airplay act of the century so far by way of chart numbers and one of the biggest in America of all time overall across multiple genres/formats. Rihanna has never been a songwriter and has never claimed to be one, nor has she ever been an instrumentalist, unlike Swift, so whatâs your point? This is Popular music; youâre either successful or youâre not and Rihanna has been massively successful and the Woman has just entered her 30âs.

in the convo of who has the bigger influence, Iâd vote Rihanna does especially in the urban community. I think Tinashe said it best when she said companies want you to either be a Rihanna or a BeyoncĂŠ. Taylor can write better, which is arguable because her lyrics are those of a heartbroken teenager, but Rihanna puts out better music

⢠Has Rihanna made Apple change her policies?
⢠Has Rihanna changed concert industry and set a new strategy to every major tour since her last one?
⢠Has Rihanna inspired women to buy guitars and was called the most influential guitarist of recent years by CEO of Fender?
⢠Has Rihanna provoked dozens of thinkpieces and op-eds after a political post on Instagram?
⢠Has Rihanna made thousands of people to register to vote?
Taylor has. That's why she's on that Forbes list of 'Most Powerful Women in the World' alongside with BeyoncĂŠ. And THAT is influence. She is also probably the most talked about celebrity this decade in the media after Donald Trump. So she's definitely has culture impact.
For me, Rihanna is just a hitmaker. Yes, one of the greatest hitmakers of all time and the greatest of this millennium, but Taylor's success has been way more vast. She has a lot of hits, sells albums like crazy, has one of the most loyal fanbases, sells out stadiums easily, get the whole industry talking whenever she releases an album... Her career is probably the most solid that emerged this century.

I think it's common sense that Taylor puts out better music than Rihanna. Anti is constantly considered her only solid album. Almost every album Taylor releases is praised by critics.

Taylor and Rihanna I think cater to different demographics so either demographic would likely 'feel' the impact more than the other. Obviously, they're both incredibly successful and have been some of the most popular artists since 2006, but I'd say Taylor has always influenced the younger generation, particularly ones that enjoyed country music (which I don't think the average Rihanna fan would haha). However overall, despite my bias, I'd consider Taylor more 'notable' in the 2010's just as a personality that can always be in the conversation. However both are going to be easily high, and both are legends of this newest era of music no matter who is bigger lol.

If anyone has updated lists for the Hot 100/Billboard 200 artists of the decade, post them now. Any other lists for any other metrics should also be posted. We're a week into October. Billboard will be posting their lists in the first week of December so we have less than 2 months to discuss about the acts with an actual possibility of winning this thing and the acts that dominated in certain metrics throughout the decade.

Rihanna has been more influential but it has nothing to do with the quality of her music.

Taylor Swift is fascinating, she is doing amazing in all main departments:
Earnings: Forbes reported 830 Million $ this decade for her. This makes Taylor the best earning musician of the decade.
Singles: Taylor sold 100 Million single downloads in the USA and 155 Million worldwide. This success makes her the #8 female artist in hot 100 history. Taylor is the third best-selling artist of singles this decade. She was the best selling digital single artist of the 2000s decade in the US.
Albums: Taylor sold 50 Million albums worldwide. She is the 21st century best-selling female album artist (USA) of albums and third overall. At the age of 25, she was listed #8 on the overall Billboard 200 all time chart. Without releasing a new album, on international womenâs day in 2017 she was listed #2 female. Taylor has 4 albums of hers on the Billboard 200 all-time chart and 5 on the womanâs all time chart (3 are in the top 10, 2 are in the top 5). She opened up 4 albums with 1 Million+ in sales and 6 albums with 500K in sales. If Speak Now would have sold 100k more copies, Taylor would have released the best selling album of the year-to-date in 7 different years in the US.
Touring: Taylors tours have become bigger and bigger each time. She grossed a massive 940 Million $ at the age of 28. Her tour in 2015 was not only the biggest of the year overall in 2015, but also the biggest by a female in US history. The reputation tour is the biggest in US history. Taylor is the overall #3 touring act of the decade so far. Unusually, her meet and greets are for free till this day.
Awards: Taylor won over 400 awards in her life. She is the most awarded female at several award shows: Billboard music awards (23), American Music awards (23), BMI awards (73), IHeart Radio Music awards (10) and Teen Choice awards (26). She is a 10 time Grammy winner, the youngest artist to ever win AOTY and the fist female to win it twice. Taylor is a Emmy and Brit award winner and won 10 VMAâs. She also won countless Country awards such as 12 ACMâs and 8 CMAâs. She will be named songwriter of the decade by the Nashville Songwriters Association next year. (She won the yearly award 7 times). She has so many special honors: âTaylor Swift awardâ by BMI, Pinnacle award by the CMAâs, Milestone award by the ACMâs, Presidents award by the songwriters hall of fame, Dick Clark award for excellence AMAâs, 2 times woman of the year Billboard, Icon award Teen Choice awards,...
Social Media: Taylor knew social media would be a thing, So she joined MySpace in 2003. In 2016 she became the most followed person overall on social media. Today 3 years later only 2 people are outperforming her: Ronaldo and Justin Bieber.
Magazine Covers: Taylor is the first female artist to be 3 times on the cover of the TIME magazine. The only artist in history to be on the person of the year cover. 4 Rolling Stone covers, 5 on the Billboard mag, Vogue September issue cover,...
Connections: Taylor had over 100 artists on her world tour stage, the highlight surely Mick Jagger. She works with the best of the best in the industry. When she released her album Lover, the 4 best-selling artists on ITunes worldwide were herself, Shawn, Camilla and Ed Sheeran. The last 3 were all her opening acts, she knows whats hot before others do.
She can do it all: Singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, video co-director, tour planning, business woman and actress.
I donât say Taylor Swift is the artist of the decade, but she deserves a top3 finish for sure.

Hope they give it to Taylor. I feel like streaming didnât really take off until 2016 and they weigh pure sales a bit more. Also count features a bit less IMO Taylor was the most influential artist this past decade How is Taylor the most influential? What/who has she influenced? Drake popularized a style of music that is predominant in the most popular/successful genre of music in the US today - rap. Countless artists who are popular and successful today cite him as a major influence on their style of music. That is influence. I'd even argue that Rihanna has been more influential that Taylor Swift this decade. Taylor has been one of the most successful musicians this decade, yes. Influential? No. Taylor win just because of quantity. She had 5 eras this decade, each that included hit singles and tours. Rihanna also released 5 albums this decade, but they all didnât sell as well as Taylor or Adele. She had the most hit singles though. I see her coming in at #4 on this list, ahead of Bruno, but maybe behind Adele? Also can Justin Bieber possibly be in the top 5? Letâs not forget he was huge up until 2016, and had tons of hit collabos afterwards including one of the biggest hits ever with âDespacito.â He might be neck n neck with Bruno Mars.

Bieber looks far away on the hot 100. But yes, he has beaten Rihanna and Bruno on the BB200, in touring and on the social 50. If the h100 does not carry enough weight, i could see Bieber taking that 4th spot.
Adele is twice as big as Justin on the BB200 (if we go by raw units), she will finish above Rihanna and Bruno for sure.
