Okay it's very good and impeccably made BUT I need the good sis to stretch her legs and creative muscle a little bit more. She's so talented and needs to experiment because it feels kind of like a waste to have her putting out so many of the same mellow sounding songs.
Too Proud is out there, and I like Chikai quite a bit, but it's time for her to go all out and blow our minds.

Would love to see her make more strides. That said, I am quite enjoying the new album. I want it on Spotify already though...

Sold over 53,000 copies physical this week. When adding digital, sales in Japan alone have surpassed 300,000.

Why is this not on Spotify in its entirety yet? She put a lot of her old material on there, but probably it's because Japanese labels rarely put their music on Spotify at all. It has no relevancy in Japan, where her main income comes from, so there's little reason to put it on Spotify. Fantôme took about 2 years to get put on Spotify, so I can imagine we may not see Hatsukoi till 2019 or even 2020.

Japan is largely a pure sales market. Mainly physical copies, with iTunes as a secondary. Over 80% of sales are physical. Streaming never took off in Japan much at all. They have sites like GYAO!, which is for music videos, but they have also have dramas and comedies, so that's hard to count. You only need 40,000 streams on Spotify to top the daily chart. They have singles that still sell over a million copies in a week from the biggest stars, but over 100,000 is still pretty common. And that's just CD copies of singles. They are still the second biggest music market in the world behind the US. If it's enough evidence, their chart company, Oricon, doesn't count streaming or digital sales in it's official singles chart.

But any revenue she's going to make off that album in the U.S. would largely mostly come from streaming. At least "Don't Think Twice" is available on Spotify, and I would presume that "Face My Fears" will be as well.

At least "Don't Think Twice" is available on Spotify, and I would presume that "Face My Fears" will be as well. "Too Proud" is also available. But yeah, that's it. People did buy the album in the US, actually. It was #77 on Top Album Sales and was Top 5 on iTunes for a bit. Speaking only from personal experience, but J-pop fans I'd say are more used to buying albums, as some even have to be imported. Her music doesn't get much streams. So odds are, she would get more money by making fans buy it. I know a Japanese group, MAG!C☆PRINCE, released their album worldwide including streaming, but their songs have around 30,000 worldwide streams at best. So they likely didn't get a whole ton of money from it. Japanese acts are probably better putting off unless they have a western fanbase like BABYMETAL. And even they don't get much in the way of streaming. Maybe streaming would help them get more exposure, but it's not like Spotify supports Japanese artists. I don't even think they list "J-pop" as a genre like they do with "K-pop".

Finally got the chance to listen to Hatsukoi. The album is good, but Fatonme was definitely a stronger effort, imo. Hoping she takes a few more risks sonically with her next release.

The song she made for the new EVA is fire, in case you haven't checked it out. A.G. Cook co-produced this (yes, Charli XCX's producer).

I'm amazed by how different their singing and speaking voices sound like. It was so soothing to hear them talk.
