Yeah, not to mention that Camila got #1 album and #1 single (Fifth Harmony was not even close)... Havana is the biggest female hit of the year and one of the most streamed female songs ever (over 3 billion streams). That's meant to be In the US only...and when I said "year" I meant a year from last year's VMAs to this years VMAs

This is a very hard drop for the show. With ratings that low, will anyone big even care about showing up at future VMAs? Part of the problem is that people are not watching MTV as much, music videos are now online on youtube/VEVO in HD to watch whenever. People don't associate MTV with music anymore. Lower ratings = lower budget next year. How low can the ratings dip before they cancel the show? *** *** *** Monday cable ratings: VMAs fall again, ‘WWE Raw’ leads the nightMTV’s annual Video Music Awards were down yet again year-to-year last night, scoring a 1.1 rating in adults 18-49 and an all-time low 2.25 million viewers, three-tenths lower than the 1.4 they had scored last year, when they had aired on a Sunday night. Both the network’s pre-show and VH1’s simulcast of the awards show grabbed only 0.5s as well. The VMAs were beaten to the top spot by USA’s weekly “WWE Monday Night Raw,” which tied the awards show with a 1.1 peak rating (up a tenth from what it had scored the week before) but beat it in total viewers with 3.24 million. VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop: Hollywood” landed slightly lower in the top 25, with another 1.0. On AMC, “Better Call Saul” was steady with a 0.4 for the second week in a row, while “Lodge 49” maintained its previous 0.1. Bravo’s “Real Housewives of Orange County” took a minor hit, falling a tenth from a 0.6 to a 0.5.

In the US only...and when I said "year" I meant a year from last year's VMAs to this years VMAs Wasn't New Rules bigger worldwide? I'd say no. -Havana is bigger on Spotify/Youtube. -Havana sold more, much more.,. -Based on certifications, Havana has WAY more sales than New Rules in North America and Australia. They are close in Europe only, but Havana is better in Europe too. -The only source of WW sales (digital+streaming+radio) that I know is mediatraffic, and Havana is still charting and has 10.260.000 points (#56 on All-time chart), New Rules is not even in the top 400.

American Ninja Warrior is a billion times more entertaining than the VMA's, wish I would of spent my 2.5 hours watching that than wasting it on a boring ass award show. From Rolling Stone Magazine- But on Monday night, ABC’s “World News Tonight” still got 8 million viewers and CBS’s “CBS Evening News” saw 5.6 million, meaning more people literally decided to watch the news than the event that was once proclaimed the most exciting evening in music — and is now largely thought of as another stale parade. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/mtv-vmas-2018-ratings-viewers-714400/

If they could live stream the show on Netflix or Hulu, the viewers would rise a lot I think. A lot of people have switched from cable to streaming services and they can't watch the show.

Exactly, most people that still own cable are older. MTV's demographic all switched to streaming, so letting people stream it on Netflix or whatever is a good idea.

Most people didn't bother to watch the whole thing. My co-workers, (not a huge sample, I know), all watched the performances on Youtube and saved themselves a couple hours.
BTW Havana is at 5xPlatinum while MTB is "only" at 3xPlatinum.

Cackling at anyone offended by the FH joke. Maybe at another venue, but here, after last year, no.

The joke would've held more weight if Fifth Harmony was still a thing.
