Songs coming off a major hit but then flop or under perform significantly.
Kiss It better failed to make any substantial effects on the charts after following a huge hit "Work".
I would consider "Heart Attack" a big hit for Demi but then Made In The USA" did nothing on the charts.

Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" was followed by "Curiosity". The former was massive, and while the latter still made the Top 20 in Canada... Anywhere else it was a flop.

Most one hit wonders could fit this, especially those whose follow ups didn’t even chart (MAGIC, OMI, Gotye, etc).
For a more recent example, there’s also Demi Lovato. She followed up the biggest hit of her career (Sorry Not Sorry) with a big old bomb (Tell Me You Love Me).

This seemed much more common back in the 90s when "recurrentitus" was a thing. Seems like these days it has been less of a thing.

MKTO's "Classic" was followed by "God Only Knows", which peaked at #11 in Australia and #19 in New Zealand, but flopped everywhere else.

Selena Gomez & The Scene-Love You Like A Love Song was huge followed by Hit The Lights which barely charted anywhere at all.

Capital Cities' "Safe and Sound" was an Alternative #1 hit, but the follow-up to it, "Kangaroo Court", didn't even reach the top 40 of the alternative chart.

It followed two hits, was released just before the album, and completely flopped.

It has over 152m listen on Spotify, went top 20 on pop and spent 20 weeks on the Hot 100. No way "huge flop" or "big old bomb" can describe it. "Underperformance given the level of hit that preceded it", maybe.

I kinda thought that Mama Said was the follow-up to 7 Years, at least in the US. It scraped the top 40.
Marian Hill followed Down with several songs, but none of them clicked.

Rihanna:
Pon de Replay - If It’s Lovin’ That You Want Rude Boy - Rockstar 101 We Found Love - You da One (I know You da One went top 10 but did horribly mostly due to We Found Love’s impact) Stay - Pour It Up

a random one that comes to mind is lil nas x’s montero, charted #1 in many different countries and was a smash. followed up by the flop sun goes down, which didn’t even hit the top 60 of the hot 100 and spent 2 weeks on the chart
