-Emo hip hop becomes dominant in hip hop, trap begins to fall off -Latin boom dies by 2021, leads us into a new pop trend similar to dubstep -A new rock genre explodes the same way nu metal and grunge did and we get a song that has a similar chart run to Butterfly -Country becomes less relevant on the chart until a new country trend in the mid 20s -Buying music pretty much dies this decade -Eminem comeback -2000s nostalgia takes over 90s nostalgia, and we're gonna get a Finesse-type song that is a throwback to crunk -Migos breaks up, all three have successful solo careers -Drake begins to drop off by 2023

Artists like Dua Lipa and Camila Cabello become more successful than they currently were. 2000s songs nostalgia would be more common.

Drake is at the forefront of corny 2000's nostalgia music - still gets the best streaming numbers.

I had this thread idea once but it flopped after like 5 posts
Here are old my predictions from it
- virtual reality concerts will make touring less profitable, leading tours to become more rare with time. - streaming will become pretty much the only relevant Hot 100 factor in about 15 years as radio and sales won't even count anymore. - the late 2010s will mostly be urban and EDM driven. Pop genre will make a comeback around 2021/2022. We won't be getting many new big names in pop until then (most likely with some notable few exceptions) but that period starting in the early 2020s will see the rise of a lot of new stars replacing the old ones. - in the 2020s all most relevant genres will experiment with electronic sound. EDM-rap and EDM-country subgenres will slowly become more and more common. - music videos will mostly go extinct by the 2030s. We will see more and more Hot 100 #1s without any video in the upcoming years.

-In 2019, Eminem drops an album much better than Revival but it has bad sales -Lady Gaga and Katy Perry have trouble selling near as much as their previous albums -Adele drops a new album. The lead singles goes straight to #1, but it's not as memorable/good as "Rolling in the Deep" and "Hello" so it only spends 3-5 weeks at #1 and then quickly drops. The album will struggle to sell 1M first week but will still be the highest selling album of the year -Drake will get another #1 single on his next album, but the streaming and sales won't be as good as Scorpion. Before this album, he will drop another commercial mixtape that will have a debut week of 300-400K SPS. -Kendrick Lamar's next album will be his biggest yet. It won't be as critically acclaimed as To Pimp a Butterfly or DAMN., but will be more commercially successful. -Post Malone will drop a new album that's sales will be better than B&B's but the album following it will fail to meet B&B. -An emo hip hop star will come out with an album that will be huge and do very well. -Vinyl Records sales and streaming will continue to rise, while CDs and digital sales continue to plummet. -50 Cent will come out with a new album. It will just miss the top 10 of the Billboard 200.

- Bruno Mars releases the lead single to a new album in 2021. Has a very high debut but quickly falls off. The rest of the singles fail the reach the top 40, and his career dies. - Post Malone reaches his commercial peak by making emo-rap - Maroon 5 breaks up and Adam Levine begins a solo career. He releases a few singles with heavy promotion. Many radio stations credit Maroon 5 as the lead artist on the single. - Pretty much every pop star that started their career in the 2000s struggles to reach platinum with future albums. But, Katy Perry makes one album with a similar sound of early 2000s pop music which manages to become somewhat successful. However, her next album fails to reach the top 20 of the Billboard 200 - PC Music becomes mainstream because of a Skrillex-like figure who is heavily promoted by his record label and successfully launches several worldwide hits. - Music Videos become very uncommon, only done by a few pop stars that were relevant earlier this decade. They fail to reach any success with said music videos. - Speaking of music videos, one pop star from the 2010s gets so desperate he/she makes a sex tape as the music video for one of his/her singles. The song debuts in the top 10 but drops very quickly. This is considered by the public to be the death of the music video - Eminem makes an album that manages to do decent, launching one top 10 single with decent longevity because it has a similar sound to 'Without Me'. - Every major album is released by vinyls (which are now sold by every single major retailer in the country) - Kendrick Lamar drops in quality very sharply - Drake makes a double album each month for about a year, causing him to oversaturate the market so much his career dies. - Tha Carter V is finally released and the album tanks both critically and commercially - Soulja Boy manages to get another hit song through Emo Rap - The Latin boom continues until around 2025 - Daft Punk will never release another album

- music videos will mostly go extinct by the 2030s. We will see more and more Hot 100 #1s without any video in the upcoming years. I could see some still doing them, however, it will become less common to. We don't see that many artists putting all that effort into them sometimes. - virtual reality concerts will make touring less profitable, leading tours to become more rare with time. I could also see some artists doing less elaborate tours with minimal staging and other theatrics because much of the high price tag associated with touring comes from all those accouterments. And there are only so many new and exciting things that can be done on stage. Madonna, Lady Gaga, Beyonce, Prince, Michael Jackson, and Britney Spears have done pretty much all of them. - Speaking of music videos, one pop star from the 2010s gets so desperate he/she makes a sex tape as the music video for one of his/her singles. The song debuts in the top 10 but drops very quickly. This is considered by the public to be the death of the music video Madonna, Tommy Lee, Kanye West, Peaches, Rammstein, and Drake Bell have already done a variation of this years and years ago and music videos haven't gone anywhere. But I could see someone doing a pornographic music video just so it would be a cause célèbre.

I do think the music video will gradually be replaced by the lyric video, which kind of is already happening.

-Billie and Dua Lipa become the main pop girls -Posty will be Artist of the Decade and will break the record for most consecutive weeks in the top 10 -Old Town Road's record will be broken -Multiple songs will spend 40+ weeks in the top 10 -Radioactive's record will come CLOSE to being beaten (but will ultimately still stand)

I'm terrible at predictions, but I'll try anyway
- The Artist of the Decade's debut album has not been released yet - The Artist of the Decade will be a pop female - No one genre will dominate a large part of the decade the way dance/electro pop did the first part of the 2010s or how hip-hop ruled the early 2000s. Instead we will see something more akin to the '90s where all the genres have some presence on the charts. - We will also see a lot more genre blending, and the Grammys will eventually create a new category to account for this.
- Dua Lipa will be a huge international mainstay, but her US track record will be spotty at best - Billie Eilish will have a career trajectory similar to Avril Lavigne - she will have multiple successful albums, but her dedicated following will evaporate after she decides to pursue a more 'conventional' sound or image. - Ariana will have a mid-career slump and/or suffer backlash for something, but bounce back in the later part of the decade
- Rihanna will only release one or two more albums - Mariah will get a 20th #1. It will be really random and unexpected, not a traditional planned release. - Bruno Mars will have one or two more solid album eras, then go to Vegas and live out his dream of becoming Fat Elvis. - An artist who we thought was commercially done in the 2010s will have a huge comeback around the middle of the decade.
- VR technology will successfully (i.e. affordably yet profitably) be integrated into the normal music consuming experience. - Billboard will make at least three 'controversial' rule changes pertaining to the Hot 100. - Sales aren't going to entirely disappear but at some point Billboard will either lower or completely eliminate their weight in the Hot 100 formula - Billboard, or some other entity, will create a podcast chart. Joe Budden will be highkey pressed every week that he isn't #1 on it.

If a Democrat is elected in 2020 there will be an increase of songs about positivity, power and looking towards a bright future.
Drake will continue to be super successful throughout most of the decade until around 2028.
There will be a lot of hits due to TikTok and other apps.
The rule on Christmas songs charting on the Hot 100 will change in 2021.
Streaming will continue to be super popular throughout the decade. Radio will mean less and less while sales are nearly non existent.
There will be a huge new trend that takes over most of the decade thanks to a summer smash in 2021.
Country music will move more traditional this decade and even non country acts will be making traditional country music even if it is just for one song. A random rapper or pop artist will score a huge country hit with a traditionally country song.
The next popular woman in music’s name will start with a ‘C’ (thanks random.org) we don’t know her yet but she is going to have multiple hits on CHR throughout the entire decade. She is also going to be big into activism and making the world a better place.
A major politician will be featured on a novelty song that reaches the top 10 of the Hot 100.
I know most of these are silly but oh well! I look forward to seeing this post in 10 years and think about how wrong I was!

I suck with predictions but I'll do my best:
* The emo rap/trap trend will be dead by 2022 * Drake will continue spamming his half-assed songs every year * Mariah/Katy/whatever now irrelevant pop diva will not have comebacks, deal with it stans * The US radio market will completely collapse * Only one or two of the artists that are big now will remain that way by 2029
I'll think of more later

Anthony Fantano made a video on this - memes will become the future of music promotion. wow, we didn't even need to get into the 2020s for this to become true some more ones - rap continues to be the top genre for a few more years, until pop takes back the charts - a rock song in the vein of Smells Like Teen Spirit blows up and rock becomes big again (this is probably wishful thinking unfortunately) - k-pop continues to have big debuts but no staying power - if trump wins the election political songs will become huge - indie artists like rex orange county, tame impala, clairo become really big - the popular music of the time becomes more experimental with tyler the creator and frank ocean being at the forefront of this

-R&B sees a resurgence early in the decade, pioneered at first by black women, but the most successful R&B musician of the next decade will be a white man (because of course). Alternative music will incorporate many r&b sounds as well.
-Rock makes a significant comeback as well in the early part of the decade with more and more pop songs incorporating rock elements into their sounds, leading to the genre itself to become popular.
-Pop becomes the driving force in the industry again by the mid-2020s, but few pop musicians around today will be successful by that point.
-The biggest artist of the decade won't debut until after 2023.
-We will actually have someone huge come out of a singing competition show, but the show will be held online or through a streaming service.
-A Disney song will hit #1.
-Country music will see a renaissance in popularity and quality in the latter half of the decade.
-Asian music continues to grow in popularity with K-pop being the forefront. We will get out first k-pop #1 song by 2025, but by the end of the decade, the industry will receive major backlash for its treatment of their artists and will either lose popularity entirely or will change dramatically resulting in heavier sounds and more artistic expression in the genre.
-A legendary act will receive a #1 by being credited through a sample, resulting in a small revival of their popularity amongst the youth.
-A musician from the 2010s that wasn't huge, but had a few hits and then disappeared will have the biggest hit of their career this decade. (In a similar way Mike Posner did that this decade.)
-Radio continues its slow death for most of the decade until it sees a resurgence in popularity due to a major shift in the industry towards 2028-ish.
-iTunes will finally shut down as digital sales become obsolete. Vinyl and cassette sales will continue to grow with the CD returning in popularity by the end of the decade.
-Streaming will remain the dominant force of music consumption throughout the entire decade, but different companies will ebb and flow in popularity. Apple Music will dominate the US in the early parts of the decade until iPhones finally lose their grip on the market share, causing an uprise in Spotify subscriptions in the middle of the decade. A third currently unknown/unavailable company puts both to shame with exceptional UI and features by the end of the decade. One such feature could be the ability to stream music videos in virtual reality.
-The genres that dominate the end of the decade will be something we can't really comprehend yet. A small, niche genre that finally explodes into popularity.
-Lyrical themes will ebb and flow with whatever the current political state is. As mental illness becomes better understood and treated as the decade goes on, music will also become more positive and forward thinking as politics begin to become more socially progressive by the end of the decade.
-The death of a composer will spark their themes to chart for the first time. Film and game compositions will in turn become a larger niche genre, scoring small hits on charts around the world thanks to streaming and new composers coming out of the woodwork to commemorate the fallen. (Lbr, as terrible as is to name the names and predict a death, it's gonna happen, and it's gonna be John Williams.)
-A musician will become a popular candidate for a major political office, but won't win.
-One or multiple top five hits this decade will heavily feature a sample from a 2000s hit.
-We will see a boom in indie pop having a 90s or even an 00s feel to it as the 80s become more distant.
-Meme culture spawns dozens of hits throughout the decade, many of which become the biggest hits of the decade.
-Songwriters and producers become more popular and are beloved as much as musicians as streaming services begin offering pages and opportunities to follow each individual producer/songwriter and the process of how music is created becomes more transparent to the general public through artist vlogging and music podcasts.

Britney will have a massive comeback (for her standards at least as in a #1 single with no longevity and a 500k scanning album) in 2021 all with a complete change of sound where she's going to address e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g we're dying to know.
Yes wishful thinking yes I spray myself some of Jinkx Monsoon's perfume every morning.

- Billie & Finneas put out a collaboration and Finneas is the lead artist. - Billie releases up to 3 songs in 2020, taking a well deserved break after her overexposure in 2019. The collaboration with Finneas might be one of these songs.
(- Billie dyes her hair red and releases the lead single off of her second studio album, which breaks streaming records and gets the second biggest #1 debut, behind Adele's "Hello".
The release is backed by a one day Apple takeover, in which every Apple platform/website turns completely black and all pictures of products are replaced by a black square with the letter B written in beige, in the WWAFAWDWG font.)
