#94. Deric Ruttan - "When You Come Around"
Total Points: 1,490 Average: 74.5 Year Released: June, 2003 Radio & Records Peak: #40 Billboard Peak: #46 Rankings:LBTrocks - 7 sabre14 - 26 Kanenrá:ke - 27 Cody Wants Out... - 40 kw9461 - 51 toomuchboy - 63 collinkottke - 68 zaclord 🌈 - 73 austin - 74 g8erboi - 80 castleoblivion26 - 88 bigfan101 - 90 .indulgecountry - 90 tim - 90 someguy - 93 bboat11 - 94 rgreen0625 - 105 gardyfan - 109 CoJoFan - 111 d3vin44 - 111 Following: carriefan15 @crapkuki23 Deric Ruttan is a Canadian country singer-songwriter, from Bracebridge, Ontario. His debut single was "When You Come Around" off Lyric Street Records (written with Steve Bogard), who at the time was being run by current Sony Music Nashville CEO Randy Goodman. The single was released in June of 2003 and peaked at #40 on R&R in August. Deric would leave Lyric Street not long after but did release his debut, self-titled album. He has been releasing singles and albums in Canada since his Lyric Street days.
Again, like Anthony Smith, if you have never heard Ruttan before this rankdown, you know of the songs he's helped write, including "What Was I Thinkin'" (also in this rankdown) and "Lot Of Leavin' Left To Do" by Dierks Bentley, "Guys Like Me" and "Hell On The Heart" by Eric Church, "Any Ol' Barstool" by Jason Aldean and "Mine Would Be You" and "Came Here To Forget" by Blake Shelton.
I love this song, such a great melody, lyrics and that fiddle fits so well. Knew it wouldn't do that well here but glad some others enjoyed it as well.

You guys really suck.
Is it because it’s unknown? It has to be that. What a fantastic song you all screwed over!

#93. Ryan Tyler - "Run, Run, Run"
Total Points: 1,489 Average: 74.4 Year Released: August, 2003 Radio & Records Peak: #33 Billboard Peak: #36 Rankings:sabre14 - 32 kw9461 - 37 toomuchboy - 37 .indulgecountry - 38 LBTrocks - 57 gardyfan - 62 CoJoFan - 66 someguy - 66 castleoblivion26 - 67 tim - 78 bboat11 - 81 zaclord 🌈 - 83 Kanenrá:ke - 84 bigfan101 - 85 collinkottke - 87 austin - 97 d3vin44 - 106 rgreen0625 - 108 Cody Wants Out... - 109 g8erboi - 109 Following: carriefan15@crapkuki23 "Run, Run, Run" was the debut single for Ryan Tyler. 29 at the time, she released the single off Arista Nashville in August of 2003. It peaked in November at #33 on R&R. Tyler's next single, "The Last Thing She Said", would peak at #39 on R&R and #42 on Billboard in 2004. Both songs didn't produce an album and Tyler was dropped from Sony later in 2004.
The instrumentation in this song is close to phenomenal and something about the melody gets stuck in my head. WYRK played it about twice a day back when it was in the top 40 and I still have memories of driving around in my dad's car and hearing this one. I didn't hear it for at least a few years but one day I randomly stumbled upon in on iTunes (had to have been about 2009 or so) and went, "oh my god, I remember that song!" Should have done better but Ryan Tyler is largely forgotten.

#92. Jeff Bates - "Rainbow Man"
Total Points: 1,475 Average: 73.7 Year Released: August, 2003 Radio & Records Peak: #40 Billboard Peak: #47 Rankings:sabre14 - 18 bigfan101 - 29 toomuchboy - 30 tim - 39 gardyfan - 42 kw9461 - 64 d3vin44 - 65 Kanenrá:ke - 67 CoJoFan - 75 g8erboi - 81 zaclord 🌈 - 87 Cody Wants Out... - 88 collinkottke - 88 LBTrocks - 89 bboat11 - 96 .indulgecountry - 97 rgreen0625 - 97 austin - 103 someguy - 108 castleoblivion26 - 112 Following: carriefan15@crapkuki23 "Rainbow Man" was the second career single for Jeff Bates off his album of the same name in August of 2003. The song only spent 4 weeks charting on R&R, peaking at #40. After the quick flame out of "Rainbow Man", RCA Nashville sent out "I Wanna Make You Cry" in early 2004. Bates' debut was the top 10 peaking single, "The Love Song" in 2003. Bates was arrested in 2001 after a two year drug addiction and spent time in jail. One of the friends he stole from during his drug addiction was Kenny Beard, who produced Bates debut album two years later when Jeff signed to Sony Music Nashville. Beard also co-wrote a majority of the songs on the record.
"Rainbow Man" is about Bates story on being adopted by a family in Mississippi when he was a baby.
I know some don't like Jeff's deep voice but I've always been a fan of his music. I loved the Rainbow Man album.

It peaked at #41 on R&R in March. Kellie signed to Sony in 2001 and was assigned to the BNA Records imprint. After failing to release her sophomore album with two charting singles, the first being the 2003-2004 single "Texas Plates", Kellie was dropped in 2004.
I really enjoy "Whatever It Takes." The lyrics are all kinds of cliches but the chorus melody is really good and Kellie gives a great vocal performance, I much preferred it to her vocals on her debut single. It wasn't the right choice for radio however.

Wow, so many I thought would go in the 40-60 range are out in the 90s and early 100's. At least Brooks is out now.

I wish I was surprised, but, sadly, I'm not. Same. Hating on Garth seems to be this board's favorite pasttime. I've always loved "Why Ain't I Running", and I remember being dumbfounded that it fizzled out in the 20's - clearly radio had just moved on from him. I just love the opening guitar riff, and the chorus melody is pretty strong too. Scarecrow didn't have any lasting hits, but it's still one of my favorite Garth albums. Start to finish it's just loaded with strong material.

#88. The Warren Brothers - "Sell A Lot Of Beer"
Total Points: 1,422 Average: 71.1 Year Released: August, 2003 Radio & Records Peak: #41 Billboard Peak: #51 Rankings:gardyfan - 24 castleoblivion26 - 34 g8erboi - 37 Kanenrá:ke - 44 kw9461 - 44 collinkottke - 45 someguy - 45 sabre14 - 48 austin - 57 zaclord 🌈 - 70 d3vin44 - 76 bboat11 - 82 rgreen0625 - 92 bigfan101 - 95 tim - 97 .indulgecountry - 103 LBTrocks - 104 toomuchboy - 105 CoJoFan - 109 Cody Wants Out... - 111 Following: carriefan15@crapkuki23 "Sell A Lot Of Beer" was released as a single to Country radio in August of 2003. It reached #41 on R&R in October/#51 on Billboard. The album it was off was Well Deserved Obscurity on a label called 429 but the song was promoted through BNA Records, which was the record label for the Warren Brothers for pretty much their entire recording career, 1998-2005. The song was actually re-released in 2004, and this video was made in 2004 during its second go-around. It features singer-songwriter Radney Foster at the beginning. The final single for The Warren Brothers off this album and their Barely Famous album was "Change" in the summer of 2005. A great song, btw; check it out if you get a chance.
They stuck to writing hit songs for other artists by 2006, including "Anyway" and "Wrong Baby Wrong" by Martina McBride, "If You're Reading This", "Felt Good On My Lips" and "Highway Don't Care" by Tim McGraw, "Red Solo Cup" by Toby Keith, "Real Men Love Jesus" by Michael Ray, "Lights Come On" by Jason Aldean, "Sober Saturday Night" by Chris Young and "Every Time I Hear That Song" by Blake Shelton. They also had their own reality TV show on CMT in 2005, no really, and I didn't hate it...I actually thought it was entertaining lol.
I didn't like this song the first time I heard it but it has really grown on me over the years. It's their signature song when they perform their own material...even though they had a top 15 R&R hit in 2001 with "Move On."

#87. James Otto - "Days Of Our Lives"
Total Points: 1,420 Average: 71.0 Year Released: September, 2003 Radio & Records Peak: #32 Billboard Peak: #33 Rankings:sabre14 - 2 kw9461 - 13 g8erboi - 31 CoJoFan - 39 Kanenrá:ke - 59 zaclord 🌈 - 69 .indulgecountry - 75 rgreen0625 - 76 LBTrocks - 77 gardyfan - 79 bboat11 - 80 toomuchboy - 82 bigfan101 - 83 austin - 84 castleoblivion26 - 92 Cody Wants Out... - 93 d3vin44 - 93 collinkottke - 95 tim - 96 someguy - 102 Following: carriefan15@crapkuki23 "Days Of Our Lives" was the second single off James Otto's debut album of the same name. It was released in the fall of 2003 and peaked at #32 on R&R in February of 2004. The debut single was "The Ball" in 2002 (#41 on R&R). After a third single, "Sunday Morning and Saturday Night", James was dropped from Mercury Nashville. He later signed with Warner Bros. Records, in association with Raybaw Records. That's when he released "Just Got Started Lovin' You" in late 2007.
I've always loved this song. I'm a sucker for this type of message and the melody is done so well. It's a bit over-the-top in its production but a minor complaint, it's a great song that sadly, I knew wouldn't do very well in this rankdown. I saw James open for Shania Twain in Buffalo in the fall of 2003, so this song was one of the first songs I ever heard in a live concert...it was my first concert lol.

"Walking in Memphis" since he was a short-lived member of the Memphis Grizzlies? And I'm not really a sports fan, I just looked the name up.

It peaked at #35 on R&R in August. Ashley was just 12 years old when the single charted, which was the same age that Billy Gilman was when he charted with his debut "One Voice" in 2000. Both were technically younger to have their first charting single over famous childhood artist Brenda Lee. Signed to Lyric Street, she released her second single "Ribbons Of Love", which failed to chart and she released her debut album Maybe It's Time independently in 2005. She signed with Curb Records afterwards and released six more singles, including three that charted. Ashley still plays shows and songwriters shows around the country.
Despite her age, I think she doesn't sound nearly her age like Billy Gilman did on "One Voice." I think it was a solid vocal performance for an 11-year old at the time and the song is fairly strong lyrically.

I thought it might do a little better, but i guess i forget that this was a low impact single that's largely forgotten (and that not everyone has been playing it for 15 years on iTunes...)
