I'm fully expecting "Kicked Outta Country" out at any moment leaving both "I Know She Still Loves Me" and "Murder On Music Row" dueling it out for the top five.

Right on cue, "Kicked Outta Country" gets kicked outta this rankdown at tim's urging. This song is considered an iconic modern-day classic for King George!! Unfortunately, it has reached the point in the rankdown where it ran into the wall of #1 hits and other iconic classics from throughout his career that are even more meaningful to the fans. It was our primary #6 contender until taylor is terrified's final list sent it back by a position at the last second.

"Kicked Outta Country" only got pushed down further on my list because there was just too much nostalgia wrapped up in everything else ahead of it. And has been referenced before, the entire Strait Out of the Box: Part 2 project was such a letdown especially for a longtime fan such as myself. That album remains the only one of George's entire career that I never went out to buy a physical copy of. Anyways, I'm sure that didn't help in my ranking for either one of the songs included from this album.

And watch it be "Designated Drinker" exiting before the top five lol. Nah, I'd actually be quite surprised if that one didn't make it in.

The interesting thing about the song "I Know She Still Loves Me" is that over the course of revisiting it for these rankdowns, I've actually grown to appreciate the song more! Back then, it ended up getting sandwiched between "Check Yes or No" and "Blue Clear Sky", therefore it received very little airplay after its rise to the top five. I was kind of hoping it might sneak into the top five here, but knowing that this has never been one of George's beloved singles I knew that it was more than likely going to miss.

I come to get caught up on these reveals to see "I Know She Still Loves Me" almost make the top 5? lol k.
Also that "Balls in Cowtown" or whatever with Asleep At The Wheel literally sounds like a bad joke or parody. The fiddles are fine yes but the song itself no lol.

The Sinatra cover didn't need to be a thing.
"Shiftwork" and "Hey Good Lookin" SUCK so bad as songs. Geroge being on the tracks didn't help at ALL.
"Sea of Heartbreak" is really good tho lol who woulda thunk it.

"I Know She Still Loves Me" being the one out of these six songs that had to miss the top 5 is probably not even slightly surprising to anybody who follows George's career! Everything that's left in the top 5 is ICONIC for various reasons, and although "I Know She Still Loves Me" was a #1 hit, it would have been a pretty big accomplishment for it to outlast any of the remaining songs imo. In the end it missed the top 5 by like 16 points, which is a pretty big gap for a rankdown of this size.
This song only managed to make it up to #85 in the singles rd, so it is definitely not one of his more beloved hits on Pulse, especially from his #1s (it would have been #59 out of 60 if we'd ranked just his 60 #1s, lmao). But it is still a very good song imo, so I am happy to see it not only be a strong competitor here, but also be one of the only songs to have nothing but top 15 ranks!!!

Really shocked to see "The Best Day" make top 5, I know it's a single and single bias and all but I've seen so many people shit on that song over the years.
Also THRILLED at this top 5 overall.

As iconic as everything in this top 5 is, I am really pleased to see "Designated Drinker" holding its own and placing among all these big hits! It is probably the least iconic song in this top 5, simply because three of these songs were massive hits and then "Murder On Music Row" is the more legendary and more widely-acclaimed of the Alan duets. "Designated Drinker" is the song in this top 5 that could very easily have been a discovery for people, as its icon status is pretty much relegated to George or Alan die-hards who have always lamented the fact that it wasn't released as a single. It very much deserves this spot in the top 5, but I'm just happy to see it! Lol

Surely you can't be surprised 😂 True, single bias and all.... but it should have died out around the #10 mark IMO... preferably on the 'not in the top 10' side of it lol. Gurl I ranked this in my bottom 10 in his singles RD are you shocked that I am befuddled by this

While I'd love to see Hate win, I think Check Yes or No will be at the top. It's a good song, but nowhere as rich as I Hate Everything, IMO.
My predictions: 5 Designated Drinker 4 The Best Day 3 Murder On Music Row 2 I Hate Everything 1 Check Yes Or No
Would love to see Designated Drinker go as high as possible, have loved that one since it came out.

"The Best Day" is the second #1 hit to leave us, beating "I Know She Still Loves Me" by one position and about 16 points. This song was a very consistent #4/#5 contender, because it is definitely a well-known and well-loved song, but is also not nearly as iconic as the other #1 hits that are still remaining. I honestly didn't ever consider this to be one of his "bigger" #1 hits, but in the last couple years I have literally heard it more on the radio than any of George's other songs, so it seems to have picked up some recurrent clout since he stopped getting current hits, lol. I am at taylor is terrified trying to tank this. This is usually the type of schmaltzy feel-good sap that you usually eat right up!! ;)

I don't love The Best Day the way I love I Hate Everything and Check Yes or No so I'm happy with it being first to go and honestly happy Designated Drinker was able to pass it!

"Designated Drinker" is pretty iconic in the careers of both George and Alan for being a song that SHOULD have been released to radio! Both of these George/Alan duets were huge missed hits that got away. This one unfortunately got overshadowed by "Murder On Music Row" coming out shortly before it. I think this would have been a HUGE #1 smash hit if it had been released. Oh well, I guess we'll never know :'( I'm definitely going to stick it into the '00s album tracks rd though, so I'm excited to see how it does there :)

So to what I am sure is absolutely nobody's surprise, "I Hate Everything" and "Check Yes Or No" are the two remaining songs in our top 2. To give a sense for how much of a runaway blowout this was for them, "Murder" was at #3 with 71 points.....and our #2 song has 33 points while our #1 has 31

"Check Yes or No" is his signature hit so I'll be surprised if it doesn't sweep this, but "I Hate Everything" is better imo. Rooting for an upset.
ETA: Oh wow apparently only 2 points separate them so nvm about an easy win for "Check" lol
