There’s a tangerine sunset Reflectin’ off the water, Reflectin’ off this bottle in my hand. When I get to the bottom of it, I got five more in that bucket To get me free as can be like the breeze off the sugar sand.

With "Wish You Well", BackwoodsBarbie is the first person to lose their #1. It was tied with "Something Going Down", but that #1 vote was enough to push it ahead with the final list! Personally I have always really liked "Wish You Well," and I think it's finishing in a good place. It has a nice vibe to it, with George giving it the perfect amount of island vibe to sound fresh without going 100% Zac Brown Band/Kenny Chesney with it. The steel guitar work is especially refreshing. My only complaint is, what the heck is going on in the intro??!!! It sounds like somebody is smacking their food as soon as the steel lead-in finishes and the full band kicks in... Seriously, if you've never noticed it before, you are going to notice is now, and you will never be able to un-notice it. #sorrynotsorry

I am going to pause here, because we're basically down to the fan favorites and the singles! From this point forward, the stakes are WAY higher! Coming up at #7, we lose our first #1 contender. In fact, multiple people will lose their #1 Any guesses what it will be???

When she found him passed out on the couch, Lipstick on his cheek, There was nothin’ left but take a breath And one, two, three.
She slipped that ring off her finger, Slapped that ink on a goodbye note. She cut his face out of every picture. Lost his last name, but won the game.

This song is so clever and I love the melody of the chorus and how he sings it. Great song.

"Rock Paper Scissors" is such an awesome song! I LOVE the musical arrangement. From the very first moment those guitars come barging through the speakers, this song makes its personality known. Plus the way George's voice launches into the parts of the chorus and it is always so steady and resonant, despite this song being a pretty different style for him I can understand this one being polarizing, but it is a real shame that it managed to finish the rankdown at a lower position than it had ever occupied before :'( This one was the first #1 contender of the rankdown, and for awhile looked like it was at least guaranteed a spot in the top 5.

Good song. I like every song on the album tho, which sucks cuz you end up putting songs you really enjoy low. bboat11 accused me of hating "Rock Paper Scissors" and I was like, not true! lol.

Okay, but it is in a minor key and has a rock edge. The fact that it is anything other than your #1 means you are woefully inconsistent at best, or hate it at worst.

"Let It Go" was a song I really had no idea what to expect from in this rankdown. It is not one of his better-loved singles, so it definitely outperformed my expectations here! #6 was the highest position it ever occupied during the submission process. For the majority of time it looked like it was going to finish just inside the top 10. Other than the epic opening line, there really isn't a whole lot that is memorable about the song. I think this was a terrible choice for lead single, especially when you consider how awesome all of the album tracks that have now outlasted it are...

Which doesn't mean all songs that fit that description will automatically be my #1 or even in my top 5 in a rankdown especially when you're dealing with a body of work as strong as King George's.

I'm surprised "Let It Go" was what they decided to go as the lead single, there were much better choices on the album.

"Stop and Drink" - This left about where I expected it to...it's a fun little tune and I actually happen to somewhat enjoy the chorus "Something Going Down" - This would've been in my Top 5 for the rankdown had it been done closer to when the album first came out as I had it on repeat quite a bit then...but I do agree that I really don't like the inclusion of the background singers on the chorus "Wish You Well" - This is really one of the most least memorable songs on the album for me as I always seem to forget how it goes...I put it just outside the Top 10 and kind of surprised to see it make it in "Rock Paper Scissors" - A catchy little number that I do enjoy but I must admit I'm surprised to see so many #1's for it (including you bboat11!)...still not really one of my go-to songs from this album "Let It Go" - I remember when George debuted this at the 50th anniversary of the ACM Awards and I was super excited to hear it...not George's best but it never fails to put me in a good mood. Locally this release was a big deal because one of the songwriters Keith Gattis is from a town just north of Austin so this was a song that I heard quite often here and actually still do With that, here is our top 5! Any predictions for how this final stretch is going to go?? 5. Everything I See (thrilled to see this make it!) 4. Goin' Goin' Gone 3. Take Me To Texas 2. It Was Love 1. Cold Beer Conversation

I like Wish You Well a lot. Melody is just so nice and smooth and instrumentation is also great. I love the sound of accordion and it's not very common to hear this instrument in country songs so that makes this song even more special.

"Goin' Goin' Gone" is a song that I wish I liked better. It feels like a song that is supposed to have a ton of energy, and really get the fans pumped up. However, the studio version is almost entirely devoid of energy for whatever reason The lead in to the chorus is clunky, and so is the end of the chorus. Looking at the live video above, however, it feels like a song that is much better in a live setting. I've always been annoyed this was a single over so many of the other gems on the album, especially the 3 album tracks that are left, and I am not at all surprised to see this song fall before those ones. I was shocked this even made the top 5, but it managed to steadily rise for the entire submission process before holding steady at #5.

"It Was Love" is our first song to be in the top 5 for the entire submission process, and in fact looked likely to finish in the top 3 for the majority of the time... The top 5 was all so tightly packed however that BackwoodsBarbie's top 5 vote was enough to push this one back to #4 at the last minute!! I am so glad to see this song do so well. This is one that has continued to grow on me more and more every time I have heard it, even to this day. When the album came out I was not very impressed because the chorus melody is very redundant and seems to take forever to arrive at any sort of noteworthy "moment", however I went on to realize that iit is VERY sneakily catchy... LBTrocks, fearlessarrow, and Cody Wants Out... all lose their #1s, while DistrictTwelve loses his #2 immediately after his #1 (and I lose my #2 as well).

Yeah, I could send a picture of your great-grandson growin’ up. Tell you one more time I love you, and that I miss you so much. Sometimes it’s the little things that really get to me. Everywhere I look there’s one more memory. There’s a little bit of you in everything I see.

The immediate fan favorite upon the album release, I was not surprised to see "Everything I See" as our standout #1 contender at the beginning of the submission process Unfortunately it sustained more hate along the way than I was expecting, and it ultimately got tanked. Still, it also remained in the top 5 for the entire submission process, which is very impressive! This song is such a touching tribute to those who are no longer with us, and is made even more impactful by the fact that George wrote and recorded this in memory of his father who passed away shortly before this album was made. George's vocal here is especially emotional, and the melody is so somber and reflective, and the icing on top is the way the production starts out super soft and then becomes a bit heavier when George launches into the chorus. The only flaw I see with this song is the references to technology. Slipping a phone into the dead guy's shirt pocket so that you could send him pictures is undoubtedly going to age quite poorly, as most technology references do... Not to mention the idea of all the memories sitting up there in a cloud, which doesn't even match the rest of the song because if it was all up in a "cloud" you wouldn't need to feel regretful about not slipping a phone into his pocket to begin with... Still, it is an incredible song, and I am so glad it made it so high! @adam1995 and George Strait Junkie both lose a #1, while a whopping 8 others lose a top 5. And somehow gardyfan loses his #13...

And with that, we have our top 2!! The hit single from the album, versus George's latest ode to his beloved home state. Which one will reign victorious?!

"Take Me To Texas" is such a bad ass song! I love it so much It almost feels like it doesn't belong on this album though. Maybe it's because it came out sooner as part of a soundtrack, but also it just seems sonically different from the rest of the album. It has one of the best instrumentation and production jobs on the album, and the lyrics are very pro-Texas without being cringey in the way that Texas Pride songs are always in danger of being. I wish it had managed to snag a victory here, but alas it was never really ever able to break through the power leaders "Everything I See" and then "Cold Beer Conversation". Speaking of "Cold Beer Conversation", it managed to rush into victory lane with a pretty easy victory! I must confess I am slightly disappointed, as I consider it to be one of George's more boring singles, and some of the album tracks are SO much better than the singles from this album... But looking at it in the context of this album rather than George's career, I guess it is definitely enough of a standout to justify winning. I mean, I ranked it in the top 5 myself, so I don't even slightly dislike it! Just was hoping for an album track victory here, and was excited when it looked like we were going to get one with "Everything I See". Still, an album track made it into the top 2, which is awesome! I love it when album tracks make the top 2! That means that "Take Me To Texas" will be exposed to a whole bunch of new people who may have never heard it before when we have an eventual sequel to the Revenge of the Best" rankdown
