"Alright" and "Black Cat" missing Top 5 tho. </3
But these singles are all so good, even "Come Back to Me" which I ranked lower than the rest.

"Alright" has always been my least fav of the singles. It used to be for me as well, but now I love it. It's probably the most 'swing' of the singles (and not as militant as some), and the backing vocals are killer. It's funny because growing up "Miss You Much" was my favorite single, and I only found "Love Will Never Do" and "Alright" passable. Now the latter two are my favorite singles off the album, and I never listen to "MYM." My ranking of the singles: 1. Love Will Never Do (Without You) 2. Come Back to Me 3. Miss You Much 4. Rhythm Nation 5. Escapade 6. Black Cat 7. State of the World 8. Alright

Fun Fact: "Black Cat" was Grammy nominated for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, making Janet the first artist in Grammy history to earn nominations across five genres Interesting. What genres were those? R&B and I assume Pop...and what were the other two? "What's It Gonna Be?!" was nominated for Best Rap Performance by a Group or Duo and "All For You" was nominated for (and won) Best Dance Recording. Another fun fact, Janet was the first of (so far) only six women to be nominated for Producer of the Year.

The fact was correct but I fixed the wording; Black Cat contributed to her eventually becoming the first artist to be nominated in five different genre categories. Jack White has now been nominated in five as well but Janet is still the only female artist to have achieved that.

Where is that sweet horchata angel who reminded me how epic black Cat was and made me revisit and fall in love. She never lied.

However you can slice and dice them any which way cause these singles are all good! The title track is revolutionary and symbolizes the subtly Janet has handled social issues. The fact that she can touch on a subject but yet never preach and the fun and presentation of the song comes first and while you're being entertained you're served social issues is a GIFT very few have. She wasn't about shock and awe just cause or bring attention to herself for the press and media manipulation. Is why she was the Queen of popular music to me.

I'm sad "Black Cat" missed out on the top 5 but it's hard to remain too mad as everything that's left is amazing!

Time to wrap this up! #4 has a midrange SD and is 18 points ahead of Come Back to Me. Only one person ranked this song in their bottom-3 while 16 ranked it inside their personal top-4. More than one #1 will be lost again.

Time to guess which song missed the top-2 by 1 point! With the 2nd-lowest SD, this is the only song in the whole rankdown to not have a single ranking outside the top-10.

Hopefully "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" but realistically speaking it could be any song out of the three.

This is the test, no struggle no progress Lend a hand to help your brother do his best
Things are getting worse, we have to make them better
It's time to give a damn, let's work together
Rhythm Nation 1814 (The Film) won Janet her first Grammy for Best Music Video, Long Form.

All I'll say about the top-2 is that 17 points separate them and they each have 1 ranking outside the top-10.

Couldn't go wrong with any of these great singles as a winner! Impressive to see that LWNDWY steamrolled the competition though and never relented the #1 spot. Wouldn't have expected that to happen in a RD with a set of songs this strong. Thanks for another great album RD, SHOOTER! Can't wait for your next one! <3

Yay! LOVE WILL NEVER DO is such a deserving winner! Such an iconic bop (and video!)
Happy it won, as it would've been my personal winner too!

Wow I didn't realize "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" had this much love over other songs on this album! Thanks for hosting SHOOTER ! Neither did I! And it was one of the first Janet songs I've heard in my childhood.

There's a reason why "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" went to #1 as a SEVENTH SINGLE
