I feel as if in songs like "If I Were a Boy", had it been a male singing about a female rather than the other way around, it would have been way more controversial. I can't think of other songs this would apply to at the moment, but I'm sure there are others. And are there any songs that people would be upset about if a female sung it instead of a male?

P!nk - Please Don't Leave Me
I remember when Australian Idol was still on, there were some unfortunate implications on a P!nk-themed week where a male contestant sang that song (due to the line 'you're my perfect little punching bag'). Coming from P!nk it tends to be taken as just her 'take-no-s**t' personality but the implications of domestic abuse come through a lot clearer with a male protagonist.

For similar reasons, I'd add Rihanna's "Breakin' Dishes" to the list. I think Anne-Marie & Marshmello's "Friends" might raise some eyebrows if a guy sang it. |
