Could somebody explain to me the situation behind Jewel's "Foolish Games/You Were Meant For Me"? I'm confused...
So it was 'FG' that helped 'YWMFM' peak at #2 on the Hot 100, right? Was the sales and airplay of both combined due to being a Double-A single?
Also, it's currently at #17 on the all time chart? Was its longevity that great? For example, it ranked above 'Unbreak my Heart' on the 1997 Y/E chart but is below it on the decade-end and all time charts? HOW???

^This is from Wikipedia: 'A CD single for the song was not issued in the United States. However, a re-released version of the "You Were Meant for Me" single CD had a hidden bonus track of the single version of "Foolish Games". Because of this, instead of debuting and charting on the chart in the traditional way, "Foolish Games" was able to continue the chart life of "You Were Meant for Me". The latter, which was on its 41st week on the chart at number 25, rebounded to number 12 as "Foolish Games", eventually peaking at number 7 eight weeks later. Despite this, Billboard counted the two singles as one, and such, "Foolish Games" was also listed for peaking at number two, despite the song never actually peaking at that position, thanks to the peak of the second single.'
So it was actually You Were Meant for Me which actually reached #2. YWMfM/FG charted for 65 weeks, which was the record for Hot 100 at the time.

There was also a delay in realizing the song was on the "You Were Meant For Me" disc - Foolish Games was meant to be one of those classic 90s ere "airplay only" tracks.
Double-A singles were common at the time. Jewel was one of many where two songs were listed

As streaming continues to grow and radio decreases, I guess it will get more common that hits such as Mine, Whatever It Takes, Delicate, Him & I, and Let You Down, which do great on Pop radio, peak outside the top 10 underneath songs with heavy streaming and low airplay

And radio has always been the metric that makes things "feel" big, because songs get broadcast constantly to large collective audiences (nationwide), even if we don't like them and just happen to be somewhere with the radio on. Streaming is a more singular, private format, where everyone is listening to their own specific playlists and/or albums and/or songs. We only know what people are listening to via streaming by the data each week. We don't get to actively hear other people's streams, like with radio where everyone is hearing the same songs. It's such a transitional time.

This is making me remember -- Whitney Houston's "Heartbreak Hotel" had a remix of "It's Not Right But It's Okay" on the single -- does anyone know if points from the HH single sales were transferred over to INRBIO when INRBIO became the current single? My guess is no, but it seems like they set the precedent that they should have been? Actually, I wonder what the hell Billboard would have done if Foolish Games did end up having a single release? Would it have charted as a new song at that point? This is all moot now but that was such a weird chart moment.

Double-A singles were common at the time. Jewel was one of many where two songs were listed Yeah since both songs were on the literal/physical single, it was counted as one single. "Foolish Games" helped extend the chart life of the overall single. It's too bad in a sense, because it would be nice for "Foolish Games" to be recognized on its own merits. It would be its own top 10 hit.

Would it have charted as a new song at that point? This is all moot now but that was such a weird chart moment. Singles sales were done by scanning (hence "Sound scan) so it would be about the catalog number, no? So, Billboard would have been able to tell which sales were from "HH" (or "YWMFM") and which were from "INRBIO" (or "FG" had that happened). In other words, they could have easily separated the sales. Billboard also had the policy at the time of listing the song with the most airplay, so once "INRBIO" or took the airplay lead, it may have been that they started counting sales from the "HH" commercial single toward "INRBIO." That's all my speculation using their rationale.

In My Feelings already top 5 radio, while top 3 Urban/Rhythmic after only 3 weeks. Makes me wonder just how fast it's going to free fall when it peaks.

Nice for What peaked really quickly, but I see In My Feelings peaking on Rhythmic and Urban quickly only because he's already pushing Nonstop as the next single on those formats. Still, I think it'll keep rising steadily on Pop so that should offset the decline, whenever it starts. Drake never really free falls off Rhythmic and Urban formats. He always holds steady and slowly drops. Also, it might still cross over to other formats, you never know.

I never thought Tyga and 5SOS will get a hit in 2018, yet here we are. I think everyone wrote Tyga off and it's amazing to see that he can still score hits. He was never a megastar like Nicki and Drake, but YMCMB could have treated him better. It's really nice to see that he still has a worthwhile career after ditching them and moving on.

These just means more dominance for artists like Drake and other "urban acts" who dominate Apple Music.

“In My Feelings” first week #1 marked the first time the streaming #1 had a higher volume (116 million) than the radio #1 (112 million).
Also it was somewhat close this week with 106m for the streaming #1, and 116m for the radio #1.
