I don't even like Rockstar all that much (it's okay though), but I feel a sense of satisfaction deep within me at the fact that it managed to make the list.

^The 2010s is already the most overrepresented decade in this update. If we include Tik Tok, which mostly charted in the Hot 100 in it, that's more than 2 songs per year. It will probably end up with about 21-23 songs if they do an update along with the decade-end charts.

are they going to update the all-time artists and albums too? If they do, I already know who will be #1 on the artists list. Hint: This artist has been #1 on every Billboard artists list for many years.

They may just tie the updates to the Hot 100 (and any chart related to it) given the anniversary

I'm happy to see Carly make her mark. Not great to see "Uptown Funk" so high, but I'm glad it's above "Shape of You". Not sure if anything can beat "The Twist". But that song is amazing.

Why is "Smooth" ranked at #2, and why is "Physical" ranked at #10?
Can someone explain? What were the chart run of each singles?
I'm quite stunned that "Physical" is ranked higher than "Unbreak My Heart" or "YEAH!" for example? As for "Smooth", I thought "Uptown Funk" would have surpassed it or "How Do I Live"?

If a modern song goes #1 in two different charting years and spends at least 20+ weeks in the top ten combined with greater weeks spent on the Hot 100 overall some time soon then I'm sure it'll, perhaps, surpass "The Twist". Perhaps... If not then a song with 16+ weeks at #1 and 35-40+ weeks in the top ten will easily take the crown.

Smooth: 12 weeks at #1 19 weeks in the top 3 30 weeks in the top 10 Without streaming. That's unbelievable! Billboard uses a 0.8 multiplier for 2015-2018, so they count Uptown Funk's chart run this way: 11.2 weeks at #1 16.8 weeks in the top 3 24.8 weeks in the top 10 Actually, Smooth beat Uptown Funk easily.

Interesting- so Billboard tweaked their formula for 2014 because Dark Horse was initially ahead of Moves Like Jagger

"Physical" spent 10 weeks at #1 and 15 weeks in the 10 overall yet is #10 on the all-time Hot 100, whereas "Bette Davis Eyes" which spent one less week at #1 and the same amount of weeks in the top ten that very same year (1981) is 7 spots lower?
Meanwhile, "Unbreak My Heart" spent 11 weeks at #1
25 weeks in the top ten overall and is ranked below "Physical" also.
Well.......
It must be true that each song is weighed differently depending on the time period and variance in chart methodology.

10 weeks at #1 in the Physical era was rare, so rare that was just the second time in the Hot 100 era A By the mid 90s's much more common

I get the feeling that what they did was take the songs that were cut by the 25/52 rule, and tack on the weeks where they would’ve remained in the top 50 but were stuck at the top of the Recurrent chart. Seems to make sense with the relatively low position of Despacito, which spent forever in the top 3 and made it to 52 weeks with room to spare, but couldn’t hold a candle to UF’s 20 weeks at the top of Recurrents. Same with Closer. Shape of You seems to be benefitting from this too, considering it was forced out of the top 3 rather quickly during those point-filled weeks after its #1 run, but stuck around forever in the top 50 area.

I think if the 25/52 rule never existed, Uptown Funk could've got a chance to the #1 position. Also add Shape of You could've got to Top 5.

Actually surprised to see Perfect and rockstar making this list.
Also very happy to see Bruno Mars claiming the top song of this decade! He deserves it

It makes sense to count songs on the year they were bigger for chart purposes. Tik Tok was a no show in 2009 and #1 in 2010, so it’s a 2010 song. Likewise, Smooth was a top 20 of 1999 and a top 5 of 2000, so it’s a 2000 song. By your logic, Sail and Safe & Sound are 2011 songs despite making a year-end two years later.

The 2010's listed was already published in 2015 (I reposted it above) - No TikTok
The 2010 portion of the chart run is not big enough to make the 2010's list
This happens on year-end lists all the time when a song straddle both years --- same for the decade list when a song straddles both decades.
Obviously on the Alltime list - makes no difference

I think that was a mess-up on Billboard’s part. Otherwise, 6 weeks where the song peaked at #10 in the 2009 chart year equaled the difference between 15 decade positions and 70 all-time positions, which seems like a stretch. Either that or the decade end started on the Billboard calendar year and not the chart year, which would be just arbitrary.

Or Tik Tok would be on the 2010's list but lower than #12, as the complete chart run does not fall in one decade. I don't know the number so I did not list it.
Statistical timing - not really a Billboard mess up
A different list would have Tik Tok be in a different position.
Year end lists are done the same way - you have to cut them off somewhere, otherwise the list pertaining to the decade is not really about the decade.

^The thing about those top 20 decade Hot 100 chart they posted is that nowhere do they mention what dates they took into account for each decade, but at least the 2000s decade-end top 20 coincides exactly with the one published in the decade-end Hot 100 chart. So it seems they kept the first dated chart of the December in the last year of the previous decade (1999 in this case) through the last chart of the November in the last year of the decade in question (2009) which is consistent with how they have been year-end Hot 100 charts for a while.
Based on that, Tik Tok has 6 weeks in the Hot 100 count toward the 2000s and the remaining 32 weeks should count toward the 2010s.

It wasn't in the top 20 in the 2015 list - it probably isn't in the top 20 now.
Obviously since this is a 2009 release and not a 2010 release.
I have no doubt that Tik Tok is on the 2010s list somewhere - we will find out in a year and a half or sooner if they update the decade list.
In any case - I assumed it was obvious as to why it is not #12 for the decade (the chart run spans both decades) - maybe it is not obvious.?
Anyway - the "alltime" position for this song should be unaffected
I did not include it in my list because Billboard did not include it in theirs.
