The composer/pianist Andre Sims is suing H.E.R. and DJ Camper for 3 million dollars for the uncredited use of his song "Endless Minds" in her platinum hit "Focus".

I like SOTY win. It’s very deserving. And Tierra Thomas won too!

Curious to hear her "debut" album. The two compilation albums will be hard to top.

I wonder how many post-IUTKH tracks will be included; I’d personally like all fresh material (Damage aside) but in the era of SPS, I could see them tacking everything on (can’t wait for the deluxe expanded bonus edition that drops 4 days after the main album).

Ms. Tepid-—H.E.R.—here has the most overrated career among all the contemporary R&B artists. It’s baffling how she has these many accolades for her mostly languid, slow, and bland songs. She has been molded into a critical darling by her label and PR: a testament to their abilities because her body of work is not commensurate to the acclaim. It’s beyond me how effective their campaign has been, but I’ve grown weary of her winning awards for C records. I’ve lost interest in her debut album.
If the industry wanted to decorate an R&B artist, SZA, Jhené, and Janelle would have been better and more interesting choices.

I’m a fan of H.E.R; however, these awards don’t sit right with me.

It's a misconception to begin with that Grammy and Oscar always go to the "best". It's always about networking and keeping these award shows on their pedestals. H.E.R. has the right materials that come out at the right timing and that makes her the right person to be awarded.

It's very bizarre to witness something like this but as long as black artists are winning I’m ok with it.

She's been nominated for or won awards for some of her material in the past that were head-scratchers for me, but I have no issues with this win at all. "Fight For You" is a great, timely song.

I agree that her reputation exceeds her actual output, but I'm not angry about this particular win (you wanna talk about undeserved reputations and Oscar wins... Sam Smith *cough* *cough*).
That being said, I'm still waiting on a defining body of work from her.

What am I reading up here today? This girl has collaborated with pretty much anyone who's a big name in R&B in the past 3 or so years.
She's been featured in multiple soundtracks to black films, Uncle Drew, The Photograph, Superfly, and now Judas.
She plays the drums, guitar, organ.
She just delivered a unique America the Beautiful Superbowl performance which received great praise.
She's LEGIT. She's earned everything she's received.

Yeah...I am going to go with the phrase "Talent Wins" here, especially after seeing her multiple times in a live setting. She is the real deal. Interested to see how the album plays out.

I'm not questioning her talent, I'm strictly referring to her actual musical output. She's earned the reputation of a premiere R&B artist without actually serving a body of work that puts her at that level.
And I know award shows mean very little in the end and so much of it is about politics, timing, etc. But she's being given this Erykah Badu/Jill Scott/Lauryn Hill treatment and hasn't even released a proper album (and neither of her compilation albums were outright winners either IMO). Just kinda bizarre to me.
I'm definitely rooting for her. And I have my fingers crossed she serves with this album.
