Trying to remember the last time country had 4 songs in the top 40 on the all genre top 100 chart It has happened pretty regularly in recent years (2008-2014 and 2018-present). I think the reason for the gap between 2014 and 2018 was the advent of streaming, but now country is catching up (much like it did with digital sales in the late 2000s and early ‘10s).

Updated. Currently there have been 10 country songs to reach the top 25 this year! 2018 for comparison only had 4.

So I decided to see how many songs per year hit the Top 40 for country music as that is what I would define that as a true memorable hit. 2014: 25 2015: 14 2016: 17 2017: 11 2018: 13 2019: 21 2020: 26
Also with singles from Dan + Shay, Morgan Wallen, Blake Shelton, and HARDY/Lauren Alaina I think there may still be a few more that will hit the Top 40 on the Hot 100. Regardless what a year for country music as there have been a lot of big hit songs more so than any year since 2014. Just astonishing.

Zach Williams and Dolly Parton with There Was Jesus is hanging out in the Bubbling Under right now that is close to hitting the top 100. That song would be the third country song that hit the Top 100 that was never a major radio hit behind Old Town Road and The Git Up. I know Ringo by Lorne Greene that was a country song hit number 1 on Billboards Hot 100, but never number 1 on the country charts.
Back in the 40s, 50s and 60s, you had more country songs in the Hot 100, more in the Top 10, and a lot hit number 1. Brenda Lee, the last true country act, almost hit number 1 last year with Rock Around The Christmas Tree who got stuck behind Mariah Carey's Christmas song. Even some of Gene Autry's Christmas songs hit for the first time in the Hot 100 sine those songs came out before Billboard began.
I noticed that the Christmas songs by country artists are not on the list since they were there on the first week of January. Brenda Lee at number 2 and those Gene Autry songs.

Just to speak of how big this year has been for country music as a whole, and as I mentioned in the Matt Stell thread a projected 15 songs are locks to make the year end Hot 100 which accounts for all genres, ("The Bones", "I Hope", "10,000 Hours", "Chasing You", "Nobody But You", "Die From A Broken Heart", "One Margarita", "One Man Band", "Got What I Got", "I Hope You're Happy Now", "Hard To Forget", "One Of Them Girls", "Homesick", "Bluebird", "Does To Me"). Which I also checked for that and here how it was for 2014-2019 for country songs making the year end Hot 100
2014: 12 2015: 4 2016: 3 2017: 6 2018: 9 2019: 13 (15 if you count "Old Town Road" and "The Git Up")

This has been such an impressive year for country music on the Hot 100, especially when you consider it was only 4/5 years ago that country music could only manage 4 year end spots in 2015 and 3 in 2016. Things have been improving slowly, but surely over the last few years. I also can't get over how much of an improvement this year has been for women on the country charts, especially compared to 2 years ago. I am very encouraged by the way things are trending right now. Even as I still question how country Old Town Road really is, I can't help but think that it really did help boost interest in country music outside it's regular audience and is at least partially responsible for this massive uptick in success for country music on the Hot 100. It seems like country music might even be finally getting on board with streaming and using social media promotion. Morgan Wallen and Luke Combs are already tapping to that market very effectively. As a longtime country fan, this is pretty exciting to watch unfold.

Andrew Jannakos debut at #65 with "Gone Too Soon" on the Hot 100 and number 12 on hot Country charts which was #1 all genre selling single back in September. He only lasted a few weeks on the charts after debuting strong for a newcomer.

^ I’ve added Trey Lewis’s song but I don’t include Christmas songs on this chart. Also most of those aren’t even country :/

Also most of those aren’t even country :/ All those songs did hit the country radio airplay charts except for the newer songs. All these artists that I listed had country hits. Did you get Andrew Jannasko's number 65 debut from earlier this year?
