We bid adieu to our final singer-songwriter to be showcased Matraca Berg. This was the first single from her third studio album Sunday Morning to Saturday Night released in 1997. Overall this received more support than I initially thought it would as it almost garnered a Top 10 placement from BackwoodsBarbie and also received three Top 20 rankings. Not everyone was on board with this one though as d3vin44 loses his last place ranking. Matraca has many songwriting credits to her name including “I’m That Kind of Girl” for Patty Loveless, “Hey Cinderella” for Suzy Bogguss, “Wild Angels” for Martina McBride, and “Fool, I’m a Woman” for Sara Evans. Matraca also co-wrote “You and Tequila” which was just featured in .indulgecountry ’s Deana Carter rankdown where it just missed the Top 10. Matraca hasn't quite left us yet though as she has three other songs highlighted for this rankdown including “XXX’s and OOO’s (An American Girl)” for Trisha Yearwood, “You Can Feel Bad” for Patty Loveless”, and "Strawberry Wine" for Deana Carter.

None of these reveals surprise me. I dread getting to the top 30 though. Every elimination's going to be a punch at that point.

There ain't no easy way to say this but two of you will lose a Top 5 ranking while two others including me will lose their #51 with the next reveal. This also happened to be the 4th most polarizing song of the rankdown.

The Kinleys debut single “Please” is next to leave and was one of the most polarizing songs of the rankdown. This initially remained the last place song until castleoblivion26 placed it inside his Top 5, however it still hovered close to the Bottom 5 for most of the rankdown until it received another lifeline from LBTrocks Top 5 ranking and it continued to improve slightly with some additional higher rankings that at one point brought it inside the Top 40 with BackwoodsBarbie ’s Top 15 placement. While I liked some of their other singles form their debut album, I’ve just never really liked this song much and more than not I remember always hitting skip when this would come on the radio.

Wow, I'm shocked Mila Mason is out this early. I thought she'd do much better here. "Dark Horse" is fantastic. It's a great song, but for me Amanda Marshall's original is far superior, which hinders how much I like Mila's version. It's still a very solid song though.

Linda Davis exits just shy of the Top 40 with her highest charting single “Some Things Are Meant to Be” which was a Top 15 hit for her in 1995. I wasn’t quite sure how this song was going to be received and it ended up exceeding my expectations as it received one Top 10 ranking from George Strait Junkie and three other Top 20’s while two others lose a Bottom 5 ranking. Linda is of course the mother of Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum and first showed up on the music scene as a duo in the early 80’s known as Skip & Linda. After her second solo album didn’t chart any singles she joined Reba McEntire’s road band as chosen a backing vocalist. On a random note she shares the same first and middle name with my mom (Linda Kaye)

I wanted Linda Davis to do better, but I'm not surprised that she's out here given the rest of the competition.

Encore!
Mila Mason "Closer to Heaven" Mila released her sophomore album The Strong One in early 1998 and this song went on to be her final Top 40 hit at country radio.
Kim Richey "Those Words We Said" This song was always one of my favorite album tracks from Trisha Yearwood's Thinkin' About You album and so I wanted to feature Kim's version here.
Matraca Berg "Back in the Saddle" This was her final single from the album Sunday Morning to Saturday Night and features Patty Loveless, Suzy Bogguss, Martina McBride, Faith Hill, and Trisha Yearwood.
The Kinleys "Just Between You and Me" This was their second and final Top 15 single released from their debut album in 1997. This has always been my favorite song from them.
Linda Davis "Love Didn't Do It" Linda released her third studio album Shoot for the Moon for Arista Nashville in 1994 and this was the second single released. Some of you may remember me mentioning in bboat11 's Reba McEntire rankdown that I was there for the filming of this video!

Figured Matraca and Kim would be out here, both are excellent songwriters! Matraca being my favorite songwriter of the 90's!
Mila got over shadowed by other females at the time but I think had she come a little earlier she could've had a longer career.
Linda's got a great voice and I like all her material but I don't think she ever really found a song that was a knock out to launch her to stardom. Her Dreamworks album is really great!
The Kinleys' second album is so much stronger than their first but I still really enjoy the first one. "Please" is out sooner than I thought it'd be, I had hope they could've snuck into the top 35.

“I Will Be There For You” served as the debut single for then 15 year-old Jessica Andrews and peaked just inside the Top 30. The song was also featured in the DreamWorks Animation film The Prince of Egypt. Cody Wants Out... see’s his #51 leave while an additional four others lose a Bottom 5. It did receive some support as five of you placed this inside your Top 20, but for the most part the rankings hovered in the mid 30’s and 40’s.

For some reason the lyrics to our next reveal made me think of "Wannabe" from the Spice Girls I'll tell you what I want, what I really, really want So tell me what you want, what you really, really want If you wanna be my lover, you gotta get with my friends Make it last forever, friendship never ends If you wanna be my lover, you have got to give Taking is too easy, but that's the way it is...
If you really want to be my baby, I really want you to be mine, all mine If you want to talk about forever, That's what's on my mind Give me a ring sometime39. "Give Me a Ring Sometime" - Lisa Brokop Total: 746 Average: 33.9 Std Dev: 11.16

For the next reveal we say goodbye to Canadian country music singer/songwriter Lisa Brokop whose first single “Give Me a Ring Sometime” from her first major label album Every Little Girl’s Dream leaves just inside the Top 40. gardyfan almost loses a Top 10 while our very own Canadian resident Kanenrá:ke loses a Top 20. Three of you placed this right at #50 while I also lose a Bottom 5. Overall this song exceeded my expectations and I was happy to see a couple of you express that this was fun discovery for you. I think I initially had this ranked as my last place song, but after listening to it more I found myself enjoying it a bit more than I remember.

Lisa was overshadowed by a lot of artists in the 90s and had little success here but she was pretty successful in Canada for a while. I remember her Curb single from 2005, “Big Picture.”
This one was a catchy song but not as good as many others in this rankdown.

The late Holly Dunn leaves us next and is the first artist from 90’s Ladies who was also featured in the previous rankdown for 80’s Ladies where her hit “Daddy’s Hands” was showcased. “You Really Had Me Going” was Holly’s second number one hit and her last Top 10 single. We see one Top 10 loss from Troublemaker and three Top 20 losses while castleoblivion26 loses his #51 ranking and four others lose a Bottom 5. Holly sadly passed away from ovarian cancer in 2016 and is buried not far from Austin in Salado, Texas.

Best known for her number one hit “What If I Said” with Steve Wariner, Anita Cochran leaves us next with the first single released from her 1999 album Anita. While he lost a Top 20 with the last reveal, Kanenrá:ke now see’s his #51 exit along with austin . This song briefly was last place until it was able to rebound and stabilize with one Top 15 placement and two Top 20 rankings as well as four Top 30’s. This is another song that did better than I expected and was more or less a discovery for myself as I don’t remember hearing it at all previously. I felt it important to showcase Anita for this rankdown and was searching for the right song when I finally settled on this one. I’m glad I did because I ended up liking this one quite a bit and have even listened to it on a consistent basis since. I'd likely rank this a bit higher now as well.

Wynonna Judd is our final reveal of the evening and leaves with her Top 10 hit “Girls With Guitars” which was written by Mary Chapin Carpenter. This was her final single from her second solo studio album Tell Me Why. This started out quite strong and at one point was able to reach the Top 25, however it was hampered by three Bottom 5 rankings and bboat11 found a spot right at the very bottom of his list for it. On the other end of the spectrum SHOOTER loses a Top 10 while four others lose a Top 20. There was never really any hesitation on including this song for the rankdown as it fit perfectly into the overall theme I was going for with some of the songs. Wynonna’s solo work has thus far proven to be somewhat divisive in the YE Rankdowns so outside of choosing “No One Else on Earth” or “I Saw the Light” I’m not sure if anything else would’ve done much better.
