We next say goodbye to “No Place That Far” which became Sara's first number one country hit in early 1999. Much like the previous song everyone placed this inside their top 40 with a slew of you losing your #2 ranking as well as two top 5’s. It was able to recover from a #39 ranking from someguy and then snuck back inside the top 5 with gardyfan ’s list. It ended up settling back into the lower half of the top 10 when BackwoodsBarbie submitted her list with another #39 ranking.

Later this evening I’ll unveil song #8 and for those that placed it as their #1 I’m sure you were hoping it would go the distance and be a stronger contender for the top 5.

I'm thinking "One Way Ticket", but I'm not sure how much tragedy we can fit into one day...

Coming up next is our #8 song that will see two #1's eliminated along with two other top 5's. The earlier clues for this were probably a little more difficult as the songs "Go the Distance" and "I Would Be Stronger Than That" were included on the B-side of this #1 hit.

Faith Hill’s debut single and first number one country song “Wild One” leaves us and along with it both Cody Wants Out... and sabre14 say goodbye to their #1. This was able to briefly sneak inside the top 5 as it gathered support from BlueShades874 ’s #2 ranking as well as a top 5 from someguy and four more top 10’s. For the third song in a row we have everyone placing this inside their top 40 with the lowest two rankings coming from LBTrocks and Kanenrá:ke this time. Coming in at #7 is the fourth song in a row where yet again everyone placed it not just inside their top 40 but top 35. It's also the second lowest polarizing song of the rankdown!

LeAnn Rimes leaves us next with her only number one country single “One Way Ticket (Because I Can)” from 1996. This had a steady climb into the top 10 helped by top 5’s from Kanenrá:ke, BlueShades874, and a #2 from kansasmeetsmo. This also received an additional six top 10 rankings as well eight top 20’s making this the second lowest polarizing song of the rankdown!

Another perfect ranking.
I'm surprised NPTF is out this early. I knew it likely wouldn't win, but I thought it would end up around 5 or 4.

I'm guessing Reba, Deana, and Alison are the three who held the #1 spot at some point. And I'll guess that "You Can Feel Bad" will be the one to miss the top 5 here, but I really would like to see it be "He Thinks He'll Keep Her" instead. #wishfulthinking
My remaining ranks: 1, 5, 10, 21, 22, and 43.

I don't remeber tanking any great songs? But looking at your ranking's I will assume that you're talking about No Place That Far and Whatever You Say . As I said a few times before (in other rankdowns) I really don't like Whatever You Say. When I participated in Martina McBride general rankdown I was very unfamiliar with her catalog and I had no idea WYS is so popular. I ranked it in my bottom 10 back than and It hasn't grown on me at all. I gave it a fair chance but I just don't like it. And also if you want that Martina McBride song would finish higher in this rankdown you shouldn't complain when Independence Day was about to be selected. If I remeber correctly you were the one who suggested WYS. If you would suggest Wrong Again insted I would rank it about 50 places higer than I ranked WYS ;) No Place That Far is not a bad song at all but this rankdown is just filled with great songs and NPTF is just not a very memorable one. I also much prefer Sara Evans 00's stuff. If a song like Cheatin', Saints & Angels, Coalmine or My Heart Can't Tell You No will be selected for next rankdown It will end up very high on my list.

2,3,5,6,9,11. And I actually am getting a vibe it'll be Lee Ann Womack who misses Top 5.

I also would have ranked Wrong Again much higher, probably Top 8 or so. Love it. Whatever You Say isn't very good, though it isn't horrible.

2, 5, 7, 13, 14, and 20 left. Patty will miss the top five. Reba, LAW, and Deana each spent time at #1.

I'm going to guess that Reba, Deana and Alison all spent time at #1, and that Lee Ann misses the top 5.
I would have loved to see "Wild One" in the top 5, but it did really well with this stellar list of songs that we have left.

Hope everyone is having a good start to their weekend! I'll be revealing a few more songs today as we continue our trek into the top 5. Here's a few things you can expect to see as we wrap this up: - Song #6 is one of three that was a #1 contender at one point or another - Two of you will lose a #1 with the first song to be revealed from the top 5 - Song #4 has the fifth lowest standard deviation and is one that some of you predicted wouldn't make it into the top 5 - The top 3 looked like it was all but set until the final list came in from kansasmeetsmo which completely altered the grand finale And here's a hint for the final song to miss the top 5:

The final song to miss the top 5 is Mary Chapin Carpenter’s #2 hit from 1994 “He Thinks He’ll Keep Her” that was released as the sixth single from her best-selling album Come On Come On. This had quite a bit of support from the beginning and was an early contender for #1 as it garnered an impressive eight top 5’s, five top 10’s, and four top 20’s. Even when .indulgecountry came in with the lowest ranking of #43 it was still able to remain in the top 3, however it continued to dip lower into the top 10 with LBTrocks #36 ranking and g8erboi ’s #41 placement. Thanks to BackwoodsBarbie ’s list this was able to recover somewhat and settled in at #6.

Encore!
Dixie Chicks ”Sin Wagon“ I chose to highlight one of my favorite album tracks that was released on their Fly album from 1999. This remains a fan favorite and is always a highlight from their live show.
Sara Evans "Love, Don't Be a Stranger" Selected by Pulse's resident Sara Evans stan .indulgecountry is an album track from her second studio album No Place That Far released in late 1998.
Faith Hill "The Secret of Life" This Gretchen Peters-penned song was released as the fifth single from the album Faith and peaked at #4 in 1999. This has long been a favorite of mine from her 90's catalog of hits and a song that I revisit often.
LeAnn Rimes ”How Do I Live“ Listed by Billboard as one of the most successful songs of the 1990s, LeAnn included this song on her 1997 album You Light Up My Life: Inspirational Songs. This was first recorded by LeAnn for the movie Con Air but the production companies felt as though her recording leaned too pop heavy and that she was also too young to sing about the subject matter (she was 14 years old at the time), so the song was pitched to Trisha Yearwood and her version ended up being included in the movie and released to country radio. Rimes released the song to mainstream pop radio where it set multiple records at the time on the Billboard charts.
Mary Chapin Carpenter ”Down at the Twist and Shout“ This was released as the third single from her album Shooting Straight in the Dark in the summer of 1991 and went on to become her biggest hit at the time where it peaked at #2. She would go on to win the 1992 Grammy for Best Female Country Vocal Performance for this song.

Some stellar artists that went out there. "The Secret Of Life" is amazing despite its radio peak. I'd love to see a MCC rankdown at some point. The lyrics in her songs are just incredible, for the most part.

The lyrics in her songs are just incredible, for the most part. Mary Chapin Carpenter will be the first artist rankdown for me and I'm hoping to start on that later this year. I never quite connected with her songs in my youth but I've really come to appreciate her work later in life and am a big fan now. She's also just an amazing human being!

I'd love to find a justification for "Only A Dream" to be included in an artist rankdown for her. That, to me, is the epitome of what she is capable of.

I think this is going to play out as follows:
5. "You Can Feel Bad" 4. "I'll Think Of A Reason Later" 3. "Fancy" 2. "Strawberry Wine" 1. "When You Say Nothing At All"
Realistically this is probably Deana's #1 to lose, but I'm going to go big with my #1 prediction! I would love to see Alison take this, as a bit of a surprise win! I honestly feel like "Fancy" is a bit too polarizing to win this, but I wouldn't mind being proven wrong there either.
Literally all of these songs are perfect though... Any of them winning will be totally awesome.
