It better be the Dixie Chicks!!! Probably "Wide Open Spaces"? You guessed it! Dixie Chicks Without further ado I present our final all female country group to be featured for 90's Women! The Dixie Chicks were founded in 1989 by sisters Martie Maguire and Emily Robison who predominantly performed bluegrass and a mix of country standards. In 1992 the group was introduced to steel guitarist Lloyd Maines's daughter Natalie Maines who proved to be a distinctive match for them. The group spent much of their time in Austin working on a more contemporary sound and were soon visited by members of Sony who would sign the group to the Monument Records label. Their debut single "I Can Love You Better" was released in 1997 and reached the Top 10 on the country charts. The group's first record Wide Open Spaces would soon follow in early 1998 and over the course of the next year would see the next three singles all reach No. 1 on the country charts including "There's Your Trouble" and "You Were Mine". The album has since been certified diamond by the RIAA and has sold over 12 million copies. The Dixie Chicks followed up with their sophomore album Fly released in mid 1999. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts and has gone on to sell over 10 million copies. Eight singles were released by from Fly including the No. 1 songs "Cowboy Take Me Away" and "Without You".
For their early success the Chicks would receive multiple awards and nominations including being nominated for the prestigious Best New Artist at the 1999 Grammy Awards; winning Top New Vocal Duet or Group, Top Vocal Group, and Album of the Year honors at the 1998 ACM Awards as well as Album of the Year and Top Vocal Group at the 1999 ACM's; recipient of the 1998 CMA Horizon Award as well as Vocal Group of the Year in both 1998 and 1999 as well as Single and Video of the Year in 1999.
Highlighted from their 90’s discography is "Wide Open Spaces" which spent four consecutive weeks at No. 1 in late 1998.

the only song I can think of is Deana Carter's "Did I Shave My Legs For This?" but you already mentioned her so I'm lost, unless you are adding a 2nd one from her

More Deana is always welcome! I cannot wait to listen to this playlist, though I'm a little worried about the rankings because there are some amazing songs in there.

"Did I Shave My Legs For This?" came up surprisingly short in whatever year-end rankdown it was in, but I hope it does better here. It's just such a stone cold good song. Not sure why it doesn't get more love. Glad to see it represented here!

There's still quite a bit of time left before submissions are due on November 11th but since this officially opened up for submissions two weeks ago I wanted to send out a friendly reminder. As always if you prefer not to be tagged in any further updates for this just let me know. I'll probably do a reminder every two weeks or so and am going to include a song from the men of country...first up is Sammy Kershaw's 1994 hit "National Working Woman's Holiday"! Participants:1. tim2. George Strait Junkie

It's already been two weeks since the last update and we've had quite a few more lists roll in (thanks y'all!) and things really are all over the place lol! Still plenty of time to complete this so looking forward to seeing more of your lists. I mentioned before I'm going to include some male country hits from the 80's and 90's in the updates (by the end of this rankdown you'll know why )...here's a throwback from Kenny Rogers serenading his Lady. Participants:1. tim 2. George Strait Junkie 3. rgreen0625 4. austin 5. Kanenrá:ke

This is everyone's one month reminder before this is due on Sunday, November 11th! We had 13 participants for 80's Ladies so my goal for this one is a bit higher and hoping to maybe make it to 20?! Most of these songs everyone should be familiar with so the hard part is just deciding which songs you like better. As I mentioned before I'm going to include some male country hits from the 80's and 90's in the updates and that by the end of this rankdown you'll know why . With that, here's a classic from King George!

I’m definitely doing this. I’m conflicted though because I see at least 10 contenders for my #1. Lol

Most of these songs everyone should be familiar with so the hard part is just deciding which songs you like better.
Considering that you went out of your way to pick every single obscure artist that ever charted a flop single in the 90s, the answer to this sentiment is a resounding no I only know like half of these!

Did you hear that Kanenrá:ke ?! Obscure?!? In all seriousness though...I wanted to make sure to include songs and female artists that still left their imprint on country music during the decade even if they didn’t have a major hit. While an artist like Allison Moorer might seem obscure to some, she went on to be nominated for an Oscar and was also the original artist on the song “Picture” with Kid Rock...I love those little tidbits of country music history :)

I know there are quite a few rankdowns that everyone is working on at the moment but this is just a friendly reminder that this is due on Tuesday, November 27th. We have two songs vying for the top spot with only one point separating them; the top 5 is also starting to take shape and has remained the same with the last three submissions. The bottom 5 has pretty much remained constant so far as well, however the song that has occupied the #51 spot for most of the time so far only recently vacated it but still remains a contender for finishing up somewhere near the bottom. Participants:1. tim 2. George Strait Junkie 3. rgreen0625 4. austin 5. Kanenrá:ke 6. someguy 7. castleoblivion26

I'll definitely do this one! Just did a quick browse of the song list and I see five or six songs that I can easily see being my #1, so this one will be tough...my #1 will probably depend on how I'm feeling the day I get around to doing this.

I submitted mine, and I have to say...this is a brutal rankdown! There were some songs that at first glance I thought would be in my top ten that ended up in the 20's. So many excellent songs on this list, and the nostalgia factor hit me hard. I can close my eyes and picture myself in the backseat of the car with my mom driving around running errands while hearing so many of these songs. I can't wait to see how this one turns out!

We're getting less than two weeks away before I'd like to officially wrap this up with submissions and begin revealing. Our last submission from BlueShades874 widened the gap between the #1 and #2 songs by about 30 points while the #2 and #3 songs are now tied. I'm still counting on quite a few of you to come through for this one since a majority of these songs everyone should be familiar with...get 'em in! Participants:1. tim 2. George Strait Junkie 3. rgreen0625 4. austin 5. Kanenrá:ke 6. someguy 7. castleoblivion26 8. BlueShades874

I've been somewhat on a Pulse hiatus this past week and with the holidays and a busy work schedule I just haven't had the time to swing back around to this for daily reminders. I know quite a few of you have expressed interest in doing this ( bboat11 , .indulgecountry , zaclord 🌈 , BackwoodsBarbie , sabre14 ), so I'm more than open to extending the deadline further out if needed. Looking at the current rankdown calendar we have quite a few open for Deana Carter, SHeDaisy (I still need to do that one!), 2009 Country Rankdown (and that one!), and a couple album series featuring Christmas albums for Martina, Jo Dee, and Patty...so I want to extend this out a bit further so that y'all are not feeling rankdown fatigue. For now I'm going to tentatively set a new due date for Friday, December 28th. With our last submission from Cody Wants Out... the Top 5 still remains the same with the current #1 song retaining its lead with over twenty points...the #2 and #3 songs are only separated by two points as well! The Top 10 pretty much remains the same with only one song sneaking in while the Bottom 5 has remained mostly consistent throughout the submission process. Participants:1. tim 2. George Strait Junkie 3. rgreen0625 4. austin 5. Kanenrá:ke 6. someguy 7. castleoblivion26 8. BlueShades874 9. Cody Wants Out...
