Fifth Harmony Meagan Trainor Nelly Furtado^ Nicki Minaj* Sam Smith ^Note: Nelly did go and do a Spanish language album after the massive Loose and that time away was really long and then the new album after that was just not what she needed at that time to be huge. *Note: Nicki did have several top 10s off of the album already and also "Fefe" from Tekashi's record and that's nothing to sneeze at. But, with the type of hype and stuff for the album era and then all of the recent messiness for the rollout, it seems her team is more responsible for the poor performance than she is. Not sure about Nelly, I know her debut did pretty well, but I would say Loose was an anomaly in her career overall. When I think of a career imploding, I more think of an artist like Katy Perry who seemed pretty much untouchable and clearly expected Witness to do well - and then it just didn’t. At all. Like... catastrophically bad compared to expectations. Nelly doesn’t fit into that category. Gaga doesn’t either, she just reached saturation point - and has had success since in different ways. I can genuinely see Katy’s career being essentially over post-Witness, she doesn’t have the versatility that Gaga (or indeed someone like JT) does. They can work across different mediums and sounds.

Fall Out Boy. Young and Menace destroyed all the momentum they had after two successful eras... Maybe if Champion was the lead single the story could be different.

Why is everyone saying Nicki? Her album is holding up well and she still sneaks her way into hit collabs.
Unfortunately, my fave Nelly Furtado literally vanished from everyone's memory card sometime in late 2008. And the worst thing is that she didn't do or say anything controversial to cause that. She was just forgotten and no one cared about her anymore.

I don't get why people are saying Eminem. lol Even if this era wasn't impressive by any means, it was still a #1 album in the US and sold more than most of the albums mentioned in here. Plus, it was the #1 album in the UK for Christmas. Worldwide it did pretty decent. He didn't really implode... he just sort of aged and his career is naturally ending. He has a giant legacy and will always be remembered in music history. People like Iggy Azalea are the real people this thread is about who never even built up a legacy.

This thread is nothing more than stan's lashing out their hate for other artists. Almost none listed apply to the topic.

Iggy Azalea Meghan Trainor Fetty Wap Nick Jonas (as a solo artist) Tove Lo (as a solo artist, she can still write the occasional hit) Phillip Phillips Lorde (commercially; creatively Melodrama is her best yet)

I thought it was artists who had a career and then imploded and not artists who had one big hit.
Iggy Azalea is cute but she doesn't belong here. Plus she just released my favorite twerkin song of the summer so she has a career still, sorta.
Milli Vanilli they sold albums, won Grammy and then wham lol frauds 😂
We don't want NO FRAUDS. You can't top them. It's as bad as it will ever get. They could possibly be responsible for the entire Unplugged series on MTV.

Not that she had a long career, but Ashlee Simpson looked like she was poised for a huge career.
I wonder if the SNL fiasco wouldn't have happened, where would she be now?

I don't think Kanye or TI imploded
Kanye is as relevant as ever and TI just faded from the spotlight like everyone does

B.o.B. - Big from 2010-2012, only to utterly implode afterwards. By 2016, he was reduced to controversy-baiting via pushing Flat Earth theory.
Christina Aguilera - Does anyone actually remember anything she put out after Back To Basics?
Twenty-One Pilots - Unless radio magically starts warming up to My Blood, they may have just suicided when it comes to chart presence by departing so much from their last album.

21P is doing alright for a rock band but not being able to crack top 40 on the Hot 100 with your lead single, and then the follow-ups doing ever worse is not "fine".
Whether they go the Imagine Dragons way to chase hits or the Lorde way to chase critical recognition is up to them. Trench got an 81 on Metacritic which is fine, but let's see if award shows pay attention to it and all.

Christina Aguilera - Does anyone actually remember anything she put out after Back To Basics? Twenty-One Pilots - Unless radio magically starts warming up to My Blood, they may have just suicided when it comes to chart presence by departing so much from their last album. B.o.B.'s first hit, "Nothin' On You", had him as the lead and Bruno Mars (also his first hit) as the feature. So it's officially B.o.B.'s hit, but after eight years it's easy to forget that in light of their career trajectories since, with the lead artist only getting attention for spouting pseudo-scientific nonsense while the featured guest tops the charts and fills arenas. 21P could probably easily have more pop hits if they want to, given their massive fanbase (including me) and pop success not long ago. But while they may not be deliberately trying to avoid pop success, I don't think they want to keep redoing "Stressed Out" or "Ride" or blatantly jumping on the trend du jour to achieve it.

Her last album did good and it had several hits. She did leave music for a long time, but she is doing extremely well with her skincare/makeup and clothing lines. She is a billionaire. If anything, she has actually been one of the most successful overall.
