Quavo's 'WORKIN ME' Becomes Migos Star's First Streaming Songs Chart Entry as Solo Artist

The song debuts at No. 32 on Streaming Songs following the release of its music video.
For the first time, Quavo scores a song on Billboard’s Streaming Songs chart completely solo, as “WORKIN ME” debuts at No. 32 on the Sept. 8-dated ranking.
The Migos member, who has appeared on Streaming Songs 19 times with his group -- scoring one No. 1 with the 10-week reign of “Bad and Boujee” in the process -- now has nine entries on Streaming Songs to his name as a solo artist. However, the first eight either came as a featured artist (such as his lone solo No. 1 as part of DJ Khaled’s “I’m the One” alongside Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne) or as one of multiple top-billed artists on a charting song (see: “Bigger > You” with 2 Chainz and Drake).

“WORKIN ME,” meanwhile, is solely credited to Quavo. The track debuts with 13.1 million streams, according to Nielsen Music. The song’s 76 percent boost in streams (it previously accumulated 7.4 million) is thanks to the first full streaming tracking week for its official music video, which was released Aug. 22.

Concurrently, the song vaults 96-52 on the all-format, sales-, streaming- and airplay-based Billboard Hot 100, earning the chart’s distinction of greatest streaming gainer.
“WORKIN ME” also hits new highs on multiple airplay charts, including No. 32 on R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay, No. 21 on Rap Airplay, No. 30 on Mainstream Hip-Hop/R&B Songs and No. 33 on Rhythmic Songs.

The track was released in conjunction with two other solo Quavo songs, “LAMBTALK” and “BUBBLEGUM,” on Aug. 10.

Ozuna Breaks Own Record With 20 Titles on Hot Latin Songs Chart

Ozuna breaks his own record for the most concurrently charting titles on the Hot Latin Songs chart, as he has a whopping 20 tracks on the tally dated Sept. 8. He previously set the record with 13 simultaneous songs on the list dated Oct. 7, 2017.

The new record was prompted in large part by his sophomore studio album, Aura, which was released on Aug. 24 and makes a splashy debut on Top Latin Albums at No. 1, largely powered by streaming activity. Hot Latin Songs ranks the most popular Latin songs of the week by blending airplay, sales and streaming data.
14 songs off the new album debut on the Hot Latin Songs chart, joining six Ozuna tracks that were already on the list. Like Ozuna's album bow, the 14 song debuts are all mostly driven by streams.

“I’m excited and super grateful with the public for their unconditional support,” Ozuna tells Billboard. "Thanks to my God for always holding my hand and never letting me fall.”


In total, since first arriving on the chart dated April 9, 2016, Ozuna has now charted 52 entries on Hot Latin Songs. Notably, more than half of those—27—debuted in 2018.
Among his 2018 hits is one No. 1, "Te Boté," which climbs 2-1 for its 11th nonconsecutive week at No. 1. Ozuna shares credit on the tune with Casper Mágico, Darell, Nio Garcia, Nicky Jam and Bad Bunny.

Only two titles from Aura landed on the chart before the Sept. 8-dated list, and, both of them speed up the latest chart. “Unica” hits a new peak, climbing 8-3, with Greatest Gainer/Digital & Streaming honors, with 7.9 million in U.S. streams (up 100 percent) and roughly 1,000 downloads, in week ending Aug. 30, according to Nielsen Music. Meanwhile, “Vaina Loca” (with Manuel Turizo) soars 20-7, earning him his 12th top 10.

Over on Top Latin Albums, Ozuna's second studio album Aura arrives at No. 1 with 49,000 equivalent album units earned. Aura is Ozuna's third chart entry, second No. 1, and it was released via VP Entertainment/DimeloVi/Sony Music Latin. Aura dethrones his first leader, Odisea, which crowned the chart for 46 nonconsecutive weeks. The set has only left the penthouse for seven weeks, each time dropping to No. 2.

Comedian Lil Duval Scores First Hot 100 Entry With 'Smile (Living My Best Life)'

Standup comic Lil Duval makes his first appearance on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Sept. 8), as "Smile (Living My Best Life)," featuring Snoop Dogg and Ball Greezy, debuts at No. 83.

Lil Duval (full name: Roland Powell) was a finalist on BET's comedy series Coming to the Stage in 2005 and is now a series regular on MTV2's Guy Code and Hip Hop Squares. "Smile" isn't his first foray into music, however, as he released his first LP, Saks Fifth, in 2011. The set features Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, Roscoe Dash and Jeezy, among others.

"Smile," which also climbs 48-34 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, drew 4 million U.S. streams (up 5 percent) and sold 4,000 downloads (up 1 percent) in the week ending Aug. 30, according to Nielsen Music. The track logged 21.7 million airplay audience impressions (up 19 percent), prompting a No. 48 entrance on the all-genre Radio Songs chart. It reaches the top 10 of the R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart, ascending 11-9 to become Lil Duval's first top 10 on an airplay tally.

While "Smile" also earns Miami rapper Ball Greezy (full name: Kinta Cox) his first Hot 100 entry, Snoop Dogg makes his 41st career visit and adds his first new title since his featured turn (with Bilal and Anna Wise) on Kendrick Lamar's "Institutionalized," which dented the chart for a week at No. 99 in in April 2015.

Just looking at where he stands in relation to other country songs that are in the same mostly airplay-only space, it makes sense to me.  "Hangin' On" by Chris Young, for example, is ahead of Garth by a few million in radio audience. Neither charted on sales or streaming. Chris is #1 on Bubbling Under, Garth is #25.  It appears that having around 25m in radio audience alone can be enough to Bubble Under these days, depending on the week.

Another example that's not country: Charlie Puth's new song debuted at #87, with the same airplay numbers as Garth's song.  Charlie undoubtedly has far more streaming and sales to give him an overall boost to rank 38 positions higher - despite not charting on either of those component charts this week, either.

That's because of Billboard iffy way of classifying song's genre. If you recall correctly, Meant to Be actually debuted at #1 in Hot Country Songs, rather than having to climb gradually as most Country songs actually do. It seemed an afterthought to me that was decided upon when BBs chart editors realized that the song would be big.

"Meant to Be" was classified as Pop because it was on a pop artist's album. It materialized on the Country chart when the label decided to promote it to Country radio and it charted on the Country Airplay list for the first time.

There is a precedent. One of the very biggest Country songs of the 1980s was "To All the Girls I Loved Before". It was sung by and appeared on Julio Iglesias' huge Latin / pop album, "1100 Bel Air Place".
Because it was a duet with Willie Nelson, it reached #1 on the Country airplay charts. Many people grumbled that it was a 'pop' song, but the industry disagreed.

I figure in both cases, they decided that both songs would do well enough and had enough of a hint of Country that they could be sent to Country radio and be successful there. The last two points is exemplified, to cite a recent song, The Middle.

The genre charts are setting longevity records all over the place because the rankings are based on its performance on an all-format chart.

Hot 100 Chart Moves: Bebe Rexha Earns First Solo Top 40 Hit With 'I'm a Mess'

As previously reported, Drake's "In My Feelings" posts an eighth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart (dated Sept. 8). Among his six career No. 1s, he has now led the Hot 100 for 47 total weeks, tying Usher for the most time at the top among solo males. The smash also takes the crown on the 2018 season-ending Songs of the Summer chart.

Plus, Khalid and Normani's "Love Lies" rises 11-9 on the Hot 100, becoming Khalid's second top 10 and Normani's first as a soloist, apart from Fifth Harmony, and BTS' "IDOL," featuring Nicki Minaj, launches at No. 11.

Who else makes noteworthy Hot 100 chart moves this week?

"No Brainer," DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Chance the Rapper & Quavo

As the collaboration holds at No. 12 on the Hot 100 following its No. 5 debut four weeks earlier, it reaches the top 10 on the Radio Songs chart, bumping 11-9, up 5 percent to 59.5 million in airplay audience, according to Nielsen Music. Khaled collects his fourth Radio Songs top 10, while the song marks Bieber's 11th, Chance the Rapper's second and Quavo's third. As for individual radio formats, the track bullets at No. 7 on Rhythmic Songs and No. 8 on Pop Songs.

"Back to You," Selena Gomez

The song ascends to the Hot 100's top 20 (23-19), marking Gomez's highest-charting hit since her Kygo team-up "It Ain't Me," which reached No. 10 in May 2017. She claims her highest rank unaccompanied by another act since her "Hands to Myself," which hit No. 7 in February 2016.

"Back" rises 8-6 on Radio Songs (72 million, up 5 percent) and repeats at No. 5 on Pop Songs.

"I'm a Mess," Bebe Rexha

Rexha achieves her first top 40 Hot 100 on her own, as "I'm a Mess" jumps 45-39. She has reached the region with five other songs, all collaborations, and has charted only one other of her nine Hot 100 entries without any other act: "I Got You" peaked at No. 43 in March 2017.

"Mess" drew 17.9 million in airplay audience (up 7 percent) and 11.5 million U.S. streams (up 4 percent) and sold 8,000 downloads (down 3 percent) in the tracking week.

Forty is apparently Rexha's number this week: In addition to her top 40 milestone on the Hot 100, her "Meant to Be," with Florida Georgia Line, rules Hot Country Songs for a 40th week, extending the longest reign in the chart's nearly 60-year history.

If Imagine Dragons hadn't released three follow-up hits, Believer would probably be doing the same thing on the Rock chart.
