#70. Take Me To Heart - Quarterflalsh This one is pure 80's mnelodic pop rock. Quarterflash added class to rock music. They always got equal airplay on harder rock stations as well. I slotted this on at #73 on my own top 100, but among these songs that we are ranking, this #70 seems too low. Besides Guitars today's pop music could also use some brass to give it life.
#69. Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy - Sammy Hagar This rank is absurd. The only thing that makes sense here is my #20 rank of this song. I gave it a #24 on my personal top 100 of 1983, but its still my favorite Sammy Hagar song. Even higher than Van Hagar era.
#68. Stray Cat Strut - Stray Cats Wow! Just wow! Either we are not cat fans ,or we are not 50's fans, cuz this one is stellar. Great lyrical play as well. I gave this one a #16 on my top 100 of 1983.
#67. Fall In Love With Me - Earth, Wind & Fire Why the free ride? This was terrible compared to a song like "Let's Groove".
#66. You Are - Lionel Richie This is more or less where it belongs. One of the best Lionel Pop songs.
#65. Heartbreaker - Dionne Warwick I never cared for this song. About the only thing I liked about Dionne Warwick is that she hosted Solid Gold.
#64. Family Man - Hall & Oates Now this is a classic. I love the way John Oates played the guitar on this one. This one barely missed my own top 100 coming in at #108.
#63. Faithfully - Journey As far as Journey ballads go, this is a classic. Can't imagine somebody ranking this at #100, and yet there it is. I put it at #95 ,but among my top 100 of 1983.
#62. Baby Come To Me - Patti Austin & James Ingram This song always bored me sideways.
#61. Puttin' On The Ritz - Taco In Taco's defense, I like the song, I just couldn't stand those effects on his vocals. It ended up at #185 on my own top songs of 1983.
First what you already know.
185.Taco - Puttin' On The Ritz 108.Daryl Hall and John Oates - Family Man 95. Journey - Faithfully 73. Quarterflash - Take Me To Heart 24. Sammy Hagar - Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy 16. Stray Cats - Stray Cat Strut
Tonight's set consists of mostly underatted New wave classics.
#70. The Fixx - Saved By Zero The Fixx was slaying radio airwaves all over southern California. About the only list I didn't see Fixx on was BB year end top 100 for 1983. This was the first Fixx song that really got me hooked.
69. ?
68. ?
#67. Tears For Fears - Change You already saw "Pale Shelter" at #167, now comes the one that broke them into the Radio Airwaves. This varies depending where you live, but in Southern California, this was the big hit. As you can see Curt was the spotlight singer in the early years.
#66. Human League - Mirror Man Besides "Fascination", they had another big in 1983. This one had that vibe songs like Wham's "Freedom" and ABC's "When Smokey Sings" had . A sort of Motown/synthpop style, New Wave would eventually cling on to, in the late 80's.
#65. Mötley Crüe - Live Wire My top 100 list is probably the only one that featured two Mötley Crüe songs. This was such a banger and MTV would always play it in the headbangers show. I would eventually take the band all the way to #1 in 1984 with "Looks That Kill", but this song will always hold a special place in my heart.
#64. Missing Persons - Walking In L.A. Missing Persons at the US festival. This was such an underatted New wave band, but also very popular in Southern California, and one of my favorite female lead bands. Nobody SQUEAKS like Dale Bozzio. You can bet more Missing Persons songs will appear on my personal top 100 of 1982.
63. ?
#62. Flock Of Seagulls - Space Age Love Song This New Wave band was had perfect synthesizer precision. The songs were haunting, beautiful and mysterious.

#'s 150-101 of my huge 1983 countdown. A big source of music for me was MTV. 144. Berlin - Masquerade139. The Plimsouls - Million Miles Away135. English Beat - I Confess133. Chilliwack - Whatcha Gonna Do
123. Heart - How Can I Refuse122. Scandal - Love's Got A Line On Me121. The Flirts - J ukebox (Don't Put Another Dime)111. Dave Edmunds - Slipping Away110. Men At Work - Be Good Johnny104. Rainbow - Street Of Dreams102. Thompson Twins - Love On Your SideAll great early MTV tunes. Some weren't that artistic, but just plain fun...

That's the difference between me and a lot of people. I'm not judging a song based on who it offends or who it's by (*cough*RKellyTankers*cough*). If that's the case, then Turning Japanese would not be a fan favorite.

This was a good update. Nothing that I really cared about, and I expected "One on One" to go out quickly after "Family Man", anyway.
I think that "Family Man" is still my highest loss so far, which is amazing at this stage.

You Can't Hurry Love Phil Collins
Great remake of a great song. Speaking of Phil, here is a 1983 extra with his group, Genesis. Mama.

A recent Classic Rock article listed "Faithfully" as the greatest power ballad ever recorded. No, that'd be "I'll See You In My Dreams" by Giant.

You Can't Hurry Love Phil Collins
Great remake of a great song. Speaking of Phil, here is a 1983 extra with his group, Genesis. Mama. Honestly, I hated his cover of "You Can't Hurry Love." Much, much better is this darker, angrier song from the same album: "Mama" is also excellent, partly because it's so unnerving in places.

Pop song? We don't need no stinkin' pop song edition:
70. Take Me to Heart---This was OK. Consider 1983 was a year that was pretty stacked and that's why it was in my 70s.
69. Your Love is Driving Me Crazy---I might actually prefer Hagar's Van Halen to Roth's. But everything here feels a step slow and doesn't have enough rock in it.
68. Stray Cat Strut---Man of my word, let's explain why this was my 100. You've been learning about my tastes for a while, but know little about my family. My stepfather is very tall (6 ft 5) and an aspiring country music writer. One of the first people he met was an artist at a recording studio who claimed that he originally wrote the song, but it was stolen by Seltzer. Which is why he advised him to get all his music copyrighted so that couldn't happen again. And now you know the rest of the story.
67. Fall in Love With Me---It's no September, but it was decent.
66. You Are---May be my favorite Lionel Richie song that I rated so far. Its position is a bit low, but I guess I can live with it?
65. Heartbreaker---Surprised it made it this long. The lyrics are fine, but it's got that slow, sluggish build that places songs in the 80s and 90s in other years.
64. Family Man---Wait, really? The wrong Hall and Oates song went first. This was decent. Um, OK?
63. Faithfully---The video is cheesy as all get out, but luckily I just listen to the music 98 percent of the time. It's cheese done right.
62. Baby Come to Me---I think I get why this went down (pacing), but understand that the lyrics were good enough. Decent song.
61. Puttin' on the Ritz---I do have a personal story, but I'll leave that for another time. This was a sonic atrocity. Don't get me wrong, I like old school music. But the production just kills it for me. I'd rather listen to Jive Bunny if I want oldies mixed together in one song. Or I'd listen to the Gene Wilder/Peter Boyle cover.
60. One on One---This was pretty tepid (and yes, the song I was referring to earlier). Hall and Oates have done way better.
59. Mr. Roboto---I had no idea that it was racist. I placed it at #98 because the lyrics and production were so cheesy that it felt like a parody of a Jim Steinman tune. By the time they shout for Kilroy, I'm on the floor in hysterical laughter.
58. Tell Her About It---I wouldn't call it a great pop song. But it's a pretty solidly built one with strong delivery by Joel. I liked the other one better, though.
57. Solitaire---Decent first time listen, but yeah, it's no Gloria or Self Control.
56. Allentown---I dig this song, just dig it. Billy tells a good story with conviction and even the metal noises aren't out of place (considering the title place is best known as a steel town). The video was well done.
55. Come Dancing---Wait, what? I get why Cody flew off the handle with Tell Her About It, but I found this one to be near perfect. The Kinks tell a story with the song that draws you in and it has a feel of a classic pop song. Instrumentation was on point, too. How did anyone put this in the bottom 20 (outside of perhaps the slower pace)?
54. Jeopardy---Another song well told with conviction. Feel the passion as he belts out the main guy's plight. But since it didn't make my top 5, I think it just should have showed up a couple of days later.
53. Affair of the Heart---Might have heard this in one of the flashback countdowns Sunday night for the first time before doing this? Eh, it's clear why Springfield is known for Jesse's Girl and not this.
52. Time---Culture Club had three songs going for it in 1983, the right one went first. The other two did a lot better in my rankings.
51. You Can't Hurry Love---I get why Phil Collins would want to do this. But it's not like he's improving on the Supremes' deserved classic, is he? Then maybe it's a question of what was the point? Decently done, yes. But nowhere close to their level.
On the plus side, congrats to Frida for making the top 50. On the minus side, did we really need THREE Men at Work songs in the top half? Feels like one or two too many to me.

Wow lost a lot of great songs for no reason at all.
#60. One On One - Hall & Oates The kings of blue eyed soul struck gold with this simple ,but wonderful little Pop ballad. I love the way the fade out gives it that never ending feel.
#59. Mr. Roboto - Styx This song always felt too dramatic and Broadway to me. It ended up much lower on my own personal rankdown.
#58. Tell Her About It - Billy Joel I put many Billy Joel songs on a pedestal. This one just never struck the correct cords with me.
#57. Solitaire - Laura Branigan I used to get this confused with "Self Control" that's my favorite Gloria Branigan song.
#56. Allentown - Billy Joel Now this is a great song. The train sound effects and the song's melody really made the song come alive. It felt like real train station.
#55. Come Dancing - The Kinks Not too bad. It did have that ballroom music effect, but that really isn't my groove.
#54. Jeopardy - The Greg Kihn Band good song. It fit most music genres. Rock, Pop and even New Wave. "The Breakup Song" is the only other song I remember by this band.
#53. Affair Of The Heart - Rick Springfield What a ridiculous rank for a stellar song like this. Rick Springfield was a pop rocker who knew how to rock. I love the harder guitar vibe he injected into songs from "Success Hasn't Spoiled Me Yet". Plus he does a killer mashup of "Jessie's Girl"/"Just What I Needed" and "Stacy's Mom".
#52. Time (Clock Of The Heart) - Culture Club My favorite Culture Club song ever. I thought it would be a an easy lock for top 20? My first top 10 less. I'm usually out half my top 10 in a Alt/ Active rank down, so this is a huge improvement.
#51. You Can't Hurry Love - Phil Collins I love the NRG of this one. Much better than some of his 90's sappy ballads. That's for sure. How does this bop get a bottom 10?
Youtube is down so I'll feature some more from my own list tommorow. All but two of these songs made my 1983 list. mind the gaps between songs.
173. The Greg Kihn Band - Jeopardy 171. The Kinks - Come Dancing 170. Styx - Mr. Roboto 86. Billy Joel - Allentown 59. Daryl Hall and John Oates - One On One 23. Rick Springfield - Affair Of The Heart 7. Culture Club - Time (Clock Of The Heart) This song ended up on my top 1983 exactly where I put it here too. It truly is one of my favorite from the 80's.

Also "Time: The Clock of the Heart" being the lowest Culture Club song is massively absurd; like it's wrong to the nth degree
