Also "Time: The Clock of the Heart" being the lowest Culture Club song is massively absurd; like it's wrong to the nth degree Word. I would say something but I was the lowest Ranker ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've liked some covers of Mickey through the years but Toni's recording is very annoying.

Good, good. Was worried that this and my #99 (Faithfully) would be top 40 at minimum. This song has just always annoyed the crap out of me. Also... Redbone things :kii:

I like this more than either of their two really well known massive hits.

I had a feeling I might be an outlier with the Cargo-era Men at Work love but I can’t believe I’d be the one to rank highly the anti-war song of 1983. Still hope Overkill goes far here.
Totally surprised by how quickly you guys spit out Culture Club. DYRWTHM is 80’s compilation commercial purgatory but I’ll Tumble 4 Ya slaps.

Lost some good songs this time, but I think "Family Man" is STILL my highest loss so far.
I know that the next set is practically guaranteed to change that, but that's hilarious.

....HOW HAVE I NOT LOST A TOP TEN YET?!?
Seriously, usually by now my list would've took a dent. Next reveal set will change that but for now I will be happy

I Know There's Something Going On in the Top 40 Edition:
9 of my top 10s remain and my lowest is a song that some of you probably find silly, but here we go anyway.
50. Mickey---I get the complaints about her voice. But I'll gladly still take this over Girlfriend or Hollaback Girl if I'm being honest. But not the video (it's really not aged well).
49. I'll Tumble 4 Ya---I'm more of a Karma Chameleon sort of guy, but this one was pretty good. But stacked year, yada yada.
48. It's a Mistake---It seemed to me that both Men at Work songs not about Australia were not good. The right song did leave first, but probably about 15-20 spots too high.
47. Electric Avenue---Oi. The synths and Grant's memorable voice combine to tell a story of the violence in the streets of Brixton. I wish this had gone about 15-20 spots longer, but you make do with what you got.
46. Goody Two Shoes---Fun pop punk song is playful and clever. Much like Avenue, I wish this had hung on into the top 30.
45. You Got Lucky---Pretty good one from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, I'm fine with where it landed.
44. Is There Something I Should Know---Most groups that had multiple songs found at least one of them disappointing. An exception: Duran Duran. This wouldn't be half bad by itself, but luckily they have another song in the mix.
43. Do You Really Wanna Hurt Me---It might have been a punchline in The Wedding Singer, but this still holds up pretty well now.
42. She Blinded Me with Science---Usually, I find one song in these retro rankdowns that ends up disappointing. And it happened to be this one. Chorus was pretty good, but the lyrics didn't fare as well.
41. Twilight Zone---What can I say? This song rocked! Wish it could have held up 15-20 spots or so, but oh well.

Do You Really Want To Hurt Me Culture Club
Total Points: 1562
Billboard Hot 100: 2(3)
Billboard Top 100 of 1983: 11
From: Kissing to Be Clever
Peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks (kept out of the top spot by "Billie Jean"), this song marked a major breakthrough for the group in the US becoming their first Top 10 hit. It hit No. 1 in almost 10 countries including their native UK.
I used to love this when I was younger but have become less enamored with it over the years...
10 more Top 40 placements fall with this leaving the rankdown and with that, Culture Club has now left the building...
Totally agreed. I think it has become a bit overrated. I much prefer his other hits over this, and I was really hoping that his other songs on this list would rank much higher than this one.

She Blinded Me With Science Thomas Dolby
Total Points: 1565
Billboard Hot 100: 5
Billboard Top 100 of 1983: 23
From: Blinded by Science
Another song that saw its initial release in the UK, this got its official US launch in early 1983 and became his only Top 40 hit, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 the week ending May 14th where it remained for 4 weeks.
Never expected this one to be out so soon. It's a great dance track.

Is There Something I Should Know? Duran Duran
Total Points: 1527
Billboard Hot 100: 4
Billboard Top 100 of 1983: 55
From: Duran Duran (1983 re-issue)
Generally considered a standalone single, this was released in March of 1983 and peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was later added to the 1983 reissue of the groups debut album Duran, Duran.
Another great song out so soon.

70. Take Me To Heart (58): Another solid 80s gem from Quarterflash. Not as strong as Harden My Heart, but pretty good anyway. Knowing how much Pulsers love Carly Rae Jepsen I'm surprised that this song didn't rank higher in this RD...
69. Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy (84): I don't remember this one from the 1980s. It's good, but it's in that narrow group of rock songs (ala Loverboy's) that have always sounded a bit fake rock, try-too-hard to me...
68. Stray Cat Strut (94): My least favorite of the retro-sounding songs in this RD --and I have two in my top 60. Just not my cup of tea in terms of rhythm/sound
67. Fall In Love With Me (77): This has very good memories attached to it, which made me give it some extra bonus points. Not as strong as most of EW&F singles--but nice chorus melody.
66. You Are (43): First song in this group that was popular back home. It was a good hit that still maintains recurrent plays and that I still like. Very nice melody throughout the song. A personal favorite that year.
65. Heartbreaker (38): WTF? Strong production, with a bit of epicness in the intro and bridge. The melody is also very strong. The Bee Gees' influence is quite obvious and for good, including their background vocals in the chorus --which I've always loved. Plus she did a great job with her vocals. Another personal favorite that year. At least, good to see that I was not the only one putting this one in the top 40 :)
64. Family Man (95): I really thought I was going to rank this one much higher. I remember that I had heard this one in 1983 and liked it back then. But now that I listened to it again after many years, I didn't feel as good or interesting as before, and I actually felt it dragged far too much. (Finally got rid of my bottom 10!)
63. Faithfully (28): !!!! I mean, I'm not surprised after seeing the fate of Air Supply and Chicago classics, but this is BS. Production lets Steve shine with his very powerful, emotional vocals in the chorus and then complements him in the chorus and bridge, to then have a great combo in the last minute or so. Great ballad that deserved to at least make the top half. This was one of the big 1980s hits back home that still has a constant presence in retro radio stations. Good to see others ranking this in their top 30, too :)
62. Baby Come To Me (67): Yeah, NO. This shouldn't have been higher than Faithfully at all. I do like the chorus quite a bit, and the vocals are pretty good, but the verses are underwhelming.
61. Puttin' On The Ritz (76): I didn't like it as much in the 1980s, then I started to appreciate its weirdness/uniqueness in the 1990s and 00s... but a few years ago I learned about the original video-clip and how they used blackfaces, which made me like it much less than before.
60. One on One (68): Back in 1983 I thought this was boring. With time, I appreciated its smooth, soulful sound. Not in my top 5 H&O songs, though.
59. Mr. Roboto (14): Babe is still my favorite Styx song, but this one is also pretty great. It's like a mini-odyssey of a song with different parts and intensities. I loved Dennis' vocals, and the video was a preferred one back in 1983. This would've been a personal chart-topper at that time. Quite popular back home as well.
58. Tell Her About It (62): Just about the right position in this RD. This was a popular song back home. I liked it but wasn't head over heels about it. Not in my top 10 of BJ songs.
57. Solitaire (75): A bit difficult to rank this one, but the verses were a bit more underwhelming than what I initially thought.
56. Allentown (40): I liked this much more than THAI. Another BJ hit back home.

Wow! Great set of songs. I charted all of these too.
#50. Mickey - Toni Basil (DOC #30 (1982) This was a big hit in Southern California in 1982. I used to love this song, but it has become so much of a kid's anthem. To add further insult many of my people here think this is a song about Mickey Mouse. The worst thing in the world is a bunch of 1st graders singing along to this song, and a clown in a Micky Mouse suite jumping along.
#49. I'll Tumble 4 Ya - Culture Club (DOC #80) I like the song, but it has gotten a bit heavy on the silly factor through the years. This is where it belongs.
#48. It's A Mistake - Men At Work (DOC #68) All these songs made my personal chart as well. Men At Work songs had really playful lyrics.
#47. Electric Avenue - Eddy Grant (DOC #115) Never really cared for Eddy's vocals, but I love the Vrooms Vrooms.
#46. Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant (DOC #17) I still love this Music Video. That's Caroline Munroe. She is an 80's Scream Queen from Maniac, Slaughter High, Starcrash and Sinbad fame. Adam Ant made some of the best bops of the 80's. "Stand and Deliver" and "Strip" would have been in my top 10. with "Ant Music" finishing in my top 5.
#45. You Got Lucky - Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (DOC #61) Boy this night of reveals is tuff, but I knew they were coming. This is a simple but effective rock song written by Mike Campbell. His short solo towards the end is powerful.
#44. Is There Something I Should Know? - Duran Duran (DOC #36) O comon now. There are about 20 songs here that this song is better than. Anyway as much as I hate to admit it this was an even tuffer year to compile my top 100.
#43. Do You Really Want To Hurt Me - Culture Club (DOC #44) I like this song probably more than I should. It did go to #1 on my personal chart, but didn't last long. here it's chart life on my 1983 top 40 lists. It ended up at #44 on my 1983 list. 10-2-1-7-21-26-40.
#42. She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby (DOC #52) Great song, but not my favorite Thomas Dolby song. That one would be "Europa and the Pirate Twins"
#41. Twilight Zone - Golden Earring (DOC #160) This one is ok. never really got into it. The best part is the Guitar solo.

Looks like a got a hefty update to showcase. Few of these we have already ran into.
60. Christopher Cross - All Right (DOC #9)
59. Daryl Hall and John Oates - One On One (DOC #8)
58. Rick Springfield - Human Touch (Hot 100 #18) (DOC #7) Rick easily found his way onto my charts year after year with bops like this. Even in 2018. Rick Springfield is one of my favorite Song Writers ever
57. Bryan Adams - Cuts Like A Knife (HOT 100 #15) (DOC #6) IMOP, "Straight From The Heart" was the weakest way to introduce Bryan into the American music charts. Elsewhere Rock format radio stations were playing killer jams like this.
56. Spandau Ballet - Gold (HOT 100 #29) (DOC #8) Easily the most classy of the New Romantic bands of the 80's. Mixing Jazz, New Wave , Soul and Synthpop into memorable classics like these.
55. Def Leppard - Rock Of Ages (HOT 100#16) (DOC #5) One of the best Rock anthems ever easily became one of my favorite songs of 1983. Rock at its finest. Been years since a rocker this fierce hot the Hot 100 top 20. Hopefully some day HOT 100 will get back on track.
54. Bryan Adams- This Time (HOT 100 #24) (DOC #5) The canadian John Cougar. Once again Hot 100's lowest peaking Bryan Adam's song, turns out to be mu highest for 1983.
53. Psychedelic Furs - Love My Way (HOT 100 #44) (DOC #5) Here is a great New Wave band that got shut out by the HOT 100. This song had a strong vibe to David Bowie's "Ashes To Ashes". They also were popluar in early 90's on Modern Rock chart, but no longer had this awesome New Wave vibe to their music. One song I did love was from Richard Butler's Love Spit Love band called "Am I Wrong"
52. Thomas Dolby - She Blinded Me With Science (DOC #6)
51. ABC - Poison Arrow (HOT 100 #25) (DOC #7) This song was released in early 1982 in the U.K., but made its way onto the American 1983 charts later that year, because of "The Look Of Love" chart fame. Naturally it crossed over into my 1983 chart as well.
