onebuffalo Do you know how I could get a hold of the songs “Baby’s Got A New Baby” by S-K-O and “Southern Rains” by Mel Tillis? These are not available digitally and don’t know if there’s a way to get a hold of a CD somewhere with them. Also there’s a couple of Crystal Gayle’s #1 singles unavailable digitally as well but can’t remember what they are. Maybe there’s a compilation album with all her #1 singles available somewhere. Anyways I’m trying to own all the #1 singles either physically or digitally. Any help would be greatly appreciated as these are the only ones I currently know of from the 80’s I can’t find either way yet.

In order of your questions: You can find S-K-O's only #1 hit on a various artists album called New Country on the RCA label from I believe 1990. I would be surprised if you can find it on the original label, MTM. Here's some information on it: www.allmusic.com/album/new-country-rca-mw0000205307Southern Rains, Mel Tillis' only #1 hit of the 1980s can be found on his 1982 album, Greatest Hits on Elektra. Some information: www.allmusic.com/album/greatest-hits-elektra-mw0000989022As far as I know, there is not a single #1s compilation on Crystal Gayle. If you could tell me which one(s) you're looking for, I'll be glad to assist you. Thanks for the questions!

Also thanks for the info on the other 2 songs now to see if I can find the CD's. Anyways here are the 4 Crystal Gayle #1 hits from the 80's that are eluding me. They are "Our Love Is On The Faultline", "Baby, What About You", "Turning Away" and "Straight To The Heart". It also seems like there are other #1 hits from other artists I'm missing as well. I'm off work tomorrow so I'll try to go through my Billboard Country #1 singles playlist tonight on my laptop to see if I'm missing something else. I really can't remember just knew there was some Crystal Gayle songs, the Mel Tillis one and S-K-O for sure. Anyways thanks for any info you can give me and answering my difficult questions.

As the self-proclaimed Crystal Gayle expert (I graduated from the same high school she did, although about a decade later) I can tell you that all four songs you mentioned are on her 1987 Warner Brothers compilation The Best of Crystal Gayle. She recorded for Warner from 1982 to 1986. They are also all on a 2002 Rhino compilation titled The Best of Crystal Gayle (same title, different album). I don’t know if either of them are still available.

You can find all four of Crystal Gayle's #1s on two albums called The Best Of Crystal Gayle. The first is from 1987 while the second is from 2002: I have both CDs in my collection.

Speaking of Crystal Gayle, I ranked her ten biggest hits back in April, 2010. This is what I said:
6. THEIR TEN BIGGEST: From one sister to another. Last week we ranked Loretta Lynn's biggest hits, this week it's Crystal Gayle. First number will be the weeks at #1, followed by the number of weeks in the top 40. 1. Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue-1977-4-15 2. Talking In Your Sleep-1978-2-10 3. Why Have You Left The One You Left Me For-1979-2-10 4. I'll Get Over You-1976-1-14 5. Cry-1986-1-14 6. The Sound Of Goodbye-1984-1-14 7. Straight To The Heart-1987-1-14 8. Makin' Up For Lost Time-with Gary Morris-1986-1-14 9. Turning Away-1984-1-13 10. You And I-with Eddie Rabbitt-1982-1-12

I am finished! I've posted every #1 single from the charts creation in 1944 until our current #1. Will update every time we have a new #1! Just imagine how many more #1 songs would have reached the Billboard country singles chart, had the new chart methodology not debuted on January 20, 1990. I have a complete list of all the #1's and would be #1 Billboard country songs from 1990-2000, had the old chart method still been in use, when there was a new #1 song almost every week.

It would be interesting to see what songs would’ve been the chart toppers if today’s formula was used back then.

It would be interesting to see what songs would’ve been the chart toppers if today’s formula was used back then. I will be glad to send you the list I came up with for not just the would be #1 Billboard country songs, but the entire weekly Billboard top 100 country songs had the old chart method still existed. I can't post it here on the board, but I could send you the list to your inbox. Is it possible to get your email address? Anyways, just like in 1986, 1992 and 1993 would have a new #1 song each week and to make a long story short, Vince Gill would have had at least a dozen #1 hits dating back to 1990 and Reba McEntire would have over 30 career Billboard #1 hits. I might be in the minority here, but I liked the old country chart method from the 80's and would have been cool if it was still used as a secondary chart, where ACC could have continued using it, to maintain the continuity of songs weekly rankings from January 13, 1990-January 20, 1990 and then some.

I'm currently working on a project to add to this thread. It's in relation to a question that was asked in another thread about multi-week #1's.
