Hyped for the Zedd/Katy collaboration! I just hope they actually release it because Zedd was acting unsure if he's gonna release it or not.
Anyways, I hope we get KP5 the first half of 2019. I read an article online where Capital Records blamed her long absence as a reason that Witness didn't perform well (https://www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-42705445), so I think Katy will have a new album out 2019. She's been recording new music throughout the year with Max Martin, Ilya, and Ian Kirkpatrick, so she's definitely aiming to return to the spotlight.

I hope she would go back to the happy, uplifting, fun kind of music, which is what she's really good at doing.
Ian Kirkpatrick is the producer that I really want her to work with. Hope they could come up with come thing that's interesting but also unique.
Hopefully we'll hear new music from her very soon!

I still love her, but the Witness era was a disaster, especially creatively. I hope we get, at the very least, something on par with PRISM quality-wise.
I'm guessing the Zedd collab won't come until Happy Now is done everywhere. Doesn't seem like the US will bite, so it's probably not gonna last much longer though.

I can't wait for this. I actually loved Witness, I think that the songs that were pushed weren't good. Roulette was begging to be released as a single!

I only became a big fan of her because of Witness. And I always wonder if they had gone with "Witness" and "Roulette" as the 2nd and 3rd singles, the era may have become a success.

I still listen to Chained To The Rhythm, one of the best songs from her IMO.

Witness was a great song. Hate that wasn’t released.

I love her voice but I didn’t really like it on Witness. She’s best when she is singing stuff like “skin tIIIAAGHTTTT jeaNS” When her voice gets really strong and catchy. Hopefully she sings more stuff like how she sang in TD in the future.

Katy Perry has a great voice, makes good music and hit singles but is not very creative. Don't @ me.

This article was a really nice read! Thanks for sharing. I would have loved to be there. On a different note, Jesus Christ, do editors even exist anymore? How many times did they write and talk about the "paper bag" when any Katy Cat worth their salt knows the line is PLASTIC BAG!??!? I put that as my photo caption every July 4, since it's so cringe-worthy.

Katy Perry has revealed plans to take a step back from music following the conclusion of Witness: The Tour.
“I’ve been on the road for like 10 years, so I’m just going to chill. I’m not going to go straight into making another record," Perry said in an Oct. 8 cover story interview with Footwear News. "I feel like I’ve done a lot. I feel like I’ve rung the bell of being a pop star very loudly, and I’m very grateful for that.” After knowing she wanted to be a singer since she was nine years old, Perry devoted all of her time between then and now on honing her craft, but no longer feels like she's in a contest. "I love making music, I love writing," she said. "But I don’t feel like I’m a part of a game anymore. I just feel like I’m an artist. I don’t feel like I have to prove anything, which is a freeing feeling.” www.billboard.com/articles/columns/pop/8478691/katy-perry-break-after-tour-interview

Good for her. She needs to do whatever makes her happy - she’s right when she says has nothing to prove at this point.

http://instagram.com/p/BorIIEpFvR6 Now that your Witness tour is finished, what are you focused on?“I’ve been on the road for like 10 years, so I’m just going to chill. I’m not going to go straight into making another record. I feel like I’ve done a lot. I feel like I’ve rung the bell of being a pop star very loudly, and I’m very grateful for that.” Why do you feel like it’s the right time to take a step back?“Well, I knew what I wanted to do when I was 9 years old, so everything else became secondary to that. I didn’t really pay attention to anything besides my craft — which is great, and I love it. I love making music, I love writing. But I don’t feel like I’m a part of a game anymore; I just feel like I’m an artist. I don’t feel like I have to prove anything, which is a freeing feeling.” When it comes to your shoe brand, you often wear it and promote it on your personal social media. Why is that important?“It’s like a limb of mine — it’s really that important to me — because it’s so full of personality, and it’s affordable. When I was a teenager, I had to create a look on a budget, so I was always putting together things from thrift stores and charity shops. I couldn’t afford what was cool, which was Roxy and Bebe at the time. All the kids in my class who were wearing these $35 shirts, I’d be like, ‘Oh my gosh, you are rich!’” MORE: footwearnews.com/2018/influencers/power-players/katy-perry-shoes-interview-charity-music-cover-story-2018-1202691982/

Business wise this is a terrible move. Girl you just had a 4 year break and that resulted in your worst album yet performance-wise.
Then again if she doesn't have her mind on the music it could result in a crappy album so... good luck I guess?
(And damn I can't believe she's still using that horrible haircut)

One one hand, I get it. On the other, I don't think she'd be saying any of this if Witness had smashed. It sounds to me like she's still kinda defeated and over it. This isn't to say she has anything to prove, it's just that knowing how hurt she was by the reception to Witness (from a prior interview) this just makes it seem like - well you didn't like my last record, so screw you guys. Some fragility masquerading as "I have nothing left to prove".
I'll still check for her new music when and if it happens.

Agreed with what has been said above. Business-wise this is a bad idea. It took almost 4 years for her to release Witness after Prism and it didn't perform nearly as well as her previous albums. While there were many factors as to why Witness underperformed, the long wait between albums didn't help at all.
It sounds from her interview that she doesn't care about commercial success anymore, which is strange because it seemed like she really wanted commercial success for Witness. I guess she's still kind of upset with how Witness performed. This news doesn't give me much hope for Katy's future commercial success. She needed to come back strong and fast.
Fingers crossed Zedd releases their collaboration in Q1 2019, so we get at least one song to try and keep Katy's name out there.

I think at a certain point superstars realize they have more money than they’ll ever need and their careers are just that — a job.
This might not be great for future success in her music career, but she’ll be fine regardless.

One one hand, I get it. On the other, I don't think she'd be saying any of this if Witness had smashed. I'm sure it is that in some way, but it was always going to be that (not smashing), eventually - natural laws of pop gravity. I think 2017 was also very trying for her in some personal, non-career-related ways too and it all just wore her out. She honestly sounds tired still, almost like the mere thought of having to be Katy Perry, Pop Star again makes her exhausted and she's secretly thankful that the flopping gave her a way out. I do hope that she at least considers doing some one-offs to keep her brand as an artist out there. Jump on a producer single, or attach herself to a big soundtrack.
