Cheatin – This song has grown on me over the years, but I remember being fairly disappointed by it when it was first released. It’s my least favorite of her top tens…not a bad song by any means, just never one I cared too terribly much for. I do like the clever lyrics in this one.
Perfect – Ah, the nostalgia. I began listening to country radio and watching CMT/GAC obsessively not too long before this song and video came out. I remember instantly becoming obsessed with this song and went out and bought the Restless CD (my first Sara Evans CD) soon after. This one has remained a favorite all these years.
I Could Not Ask For More – I was surprised at how low I ranked this one, but it just shows how strong Sara’s music is for me. This is one of those songs that sounds just a good today as it did 18 years ago (how is Born to Fly that old!?) Am I recalling correctly that this song was stuck at #2 for six weeks? So frustrating that it came so close to #1 for so many weeks but fell short!
No Place That Far – The song that may have possibly saved her career. I was thinking once that I read that the label at the time was considering dropping Sara if she didn’t get any hits off of her second album (don’t quote me on that though, I may be mistaken). This was the only hit, but obviously a big one.
Saints & Angels – Quick story on this one…at the time this came out, I only casually listened to country radio. I knew of Born to Fly, ICNAFM and I Keep Looking, but I have no recollection of ever hearing this on the radio or seeing the music video. My parents and I were at Texas Roadhouse one night and this song came on. I could tell it was Sara, but had no idea what the song was. When I got home I looked it up and realized it was on the Born to Fly cd. I went out the next day and bought it and was obsessed with this song ever since. I feel like this is perhaps her most underrated top 20 hit and, even though it had a video, seems like it’s been completely forgotten compared to some of her other moderate hits. Here are my predictions for the rest:
5. Backseat of a Greyhound Bus (I’m genuinely surprised this one is still in)
The rest of the top 4 I could see going literally any way. This is a total shot in the dark. 4. Suds in the Bucket 3. Born to Fly 2. A Little Bit Stronger 1. A Real Fine Place to Start

Predictions:
1. Born to Fly 2. A Real Fine Place 3. Suds in a Bucket 4. A Little Bit Stronger 5. Backseat of Greyhound Bus
Left: 2,3,7,10,11
Just hoping "Suds" will not take it. I think it actually deserves the spot as it is the song I most associate with Sara, but it is still not my favorite. For me the song just has not aged well at all. That may be largely due to overplay though. Obviously I don't hate it all though considering my remaining ranks left.

We kick off the top 5 by eliminating the final non-#1 single in the rankdown, which probably comes as no surprise to anyone. The lead-off to Restless, "Backseat of a Greyhound Bus" is a lengthy story song about a girl's life moments like falling in love and delivering a baby, all thanks to setting out on a greyhound bus ride for a better life. Released on the heels of her breakthrough era, this song faltered on the charts and only took her to the top 20 before the two follow-up singles from the album quickly got her career back on track. It finds itself among the company of four of her #1 hits in the top 5, so according to Pulse it seems quite underrated despite it's chart performance. Naturally the heavy losses continue as we near the finish of the rankdown, and this time it's sabre14 and d3vin44 who take the ultimate loss in losing their #1 rank. No one placed this one in their bottom 10, and it only missed out on a few posters' top 20s at that. With this one gone, we have 1 song apiece from the following four eras: Born to Fly, Restless, Real Fine Place, and Stronger. "Moon was full the stars were smilin' God has a funny sense of timin' The baby came on the interstate Somewhere between Jackson and Memphis She finally found what she'd been missing She cried and laughed when the red lights flashed Sweet baby girl, she looked into the face of a new, the face of a brand new world"

And just like that in back-to-back reveals we completely eradicate the Restless era from the rankdown as "Suds in the Bucket" becomes her second #1 hit to get hung out to dry. In terms of recurrent play on radio, this is likely considered her biggest hit, though the three songs still remaining on paper are just as big as "Suds" is/was. A very throwback neo-traditional sound and a bit of an outlier on its parent album, "Suds in the Bucket" surprised everyone when it turned into a risk that paid off in full when it became a massive smash and the monumental hit of the record. Lyrically it's a whimsical ditty about a young girl who runs off with a man in his pickup truck while in the middle of doing the laundry, leaving her parents and the small town to gossip and wonder about where she went. With three #1s for this one, plus an additional fifteen top 10s (including a comically high number of 3s and 6s), the passion for this one was high. Unfortunately for this one, it wasn't without its haters as the final bottom 10 rank remaining in anybody's list is expelled at last, meaning castleoblivion26 can breathe easy. Despite holding a solid spot in the top 5 down for most of the submission process, "Suds in the Bucket" comes up shy of the top 3 by 100 points, so it wasn't really close to getting any higher than this. "Now all the biddies in the beauty shop Gossip goin' non-stop Sippin' on pink lemonade How could eighteen years just up and walk away"

I'm really glad "Suds" didn't win. Just never really cared for that one at all.
"A Real Fine Place To Start" can go anytime too. I like it, but I think it's wayyyyyyy overrated.

“Suds in the Bucket” was the first Sara Evans song I remember truly LOVING. It’ll always hold a special place in her discography for being one of the songs I associate the most with my childhood. Just so much fun, a true classic.
With that being said, I’m also glad to see it go before top three. As strong as it is, she has better (which in and of itself is a testament to just how brilliant she is) and I’m thrilled that this rankdown reflects that. Speaking of, this top three is too good, omg. I’d be more than happy to see any of them win.

Consistently hovering near the top, "Born to Fly" was pretty much always destined to wind up in third behind the other two still in, while also putting 100 points between it and "Suds in the Bucket." Sara Evans' breakthrough smash at the turn of the century that officially put her on country radio's map as a valued hit-maker, "Born to Fly" is a rootsy fiddle-laden uptempo coming of age anthem. Other than being the hit that launched Sara into stardom, it's biggest claim to fame is probably its Wizard of Oz-themed music video that landed Sara her one and only CMA Award win to date for Best Music Video. Thanks in part to that + the significance of its success, I'd say this one is probably Sara's signature hit. Our toughest loss at the top yet as four of y'all lose your #1 rank here, and for the other 13 who bid farewell to another top 5. Only five posters had the damn nerve to even ranked this one outside their top 10, with only two of those being just below the midway point of their lists, which is quite impressive. Both songs still in didn't even have a single rank outside the top 20, however. "I've been tellin' my dreams to the scarecrow About the places that I'd like to see I say 'friend, do you think I'll ever get there?' Aww, but he just stands there smilin' back at me"

ughhhhhh! "Born To Fly" is hands down Sara's best IMO. Even my #2 was never a contender for #1 for me. BTF is just fantastic. I was really hoping this would win

Both fantastic, but “A Little Bit Stronger” is my personal choice for the top and my favorite from her overall. She radiates so much strength and growth here; a total mood. I’ve said it before, but it was such a MOMENT for her and a pivotal single in her career. She really couldn’t have come back with a better choice.
So damn wonderful. Wouldn’t be mad with either winner, though!

In the battle of her most recent two #1 hits, the most recent of the two, comes out on top here with a mere 1-point lead that was decided by the final list submitted (thanks Zeebz!) that actually broke a tie between the two, giving the edge to "A Little Bit Stronger." These two were always the only contenders for the top spot and switched hands a couple times, but generally ALBS stayed ahead about 75% of the time compared to probably around 25% for "A Real Fine Place to Start." "A Little Bit Stronger" is a power ballad that served as Sara Evans' big comeback hit after a few years largely out of the mainstream spotlight. This Hillary Scott-penned (of Lady Antebellum) tune wound up being the perfect 'moment' for her to return with and her triumphant return to the ACMs stage in 2011 was met with a standing ovation. Lyrically, it's an optimistic message about gaining strength over time following a breakup as the protagonist slowly realizes she's better off without her ex. The runner-up, "A Real Fine Place to Start," is one of Sara's biggest and most popular uptempo hits, with a great contemporary driving production and a seductive music video set in the desert. First recorded by its songwriter Radney Foster, Sara brought it to life and turned it into the smash lead single that helped set up her Real Fine Place era to be a huge success and garner her the ACM Award for Female Vocalist the following spring. As you can see by the rankings below, ALBS came out ahead with five individual #1 ranks, the most of any song in the rankdown. ARFPTS was no slouch with two #1s of its own, however, and both songs only held five sub-top 10 rankings a piece, none of which dipped below the top 20 or upper half of anyone's lists. Congratulations to tim, Troublemaker, zaclord 🌈, Zeebz, and SHOOTER for correctly placing the #1 here! "It doesn't happen overnight but you Turn around and a month's gone by And you realize you haven't cried I'm not giving you a hour or a second or another minute longer I'm busy getting stronger"
"Somethin' is goin' on I can't explain but sure can touch It's callin' both of us Stronger than any fear or doubt It's changin' everything I see It's changin' you it's changin' me"

If "Suds" wasn’t going to win, I NEED it to be "Stronger." Like others have stated, that song is so pivotal and important, and I’m so glad it was a huge hit for her. FWIW, the two Sara Evans songs that my hometown station WAVW still gives occasional spins to are "Suds" and "Stronger," but I dont think I’ve ever heard them play "Real Fine Place" at all this decade, and I listen to that station religiously. Still, RFP is also fantastic, so I wouldn’t be too bummed if "Stronger" lost to it.

THANK GOODNESS!!!! I do like "A Real Fine Place To Start" I promise! And it's one I always enjoy more than I remember until I listen to it. That said, I think it is extremely overrated and not among her very best songs. I'm glad it didn't win here. "A Little Bit Stronger" is really good so I'm happy. I love the lyrics and think the melody works really well, Sara sounds great. Thanks for hosting .indulgecountry !!

Also, this rankdown could not have gone any more perfectly! The quality of Sara's output is second-to-none, so as much as I wish certain songs had done better, I just feel so happy that every song that did well did well... Lmao "A Little Bit Stronger" is a perfect winner, too! I figured this would be the top 2, and as much as I love ARFPTS, I am thrilled to see a different Sara Evans song win a rankdown for once!
