I'm responding to a year-old topic I like to buy CDs (and starting in 2020 hopefully vinyl records as well) to have that physical feeling of owning music and popping it in somewhere. I like to hold the album booklets in my hand as the album plays and read along with the lyrics of each song. Not to mention, vinyls would be perfect to play while cleaning around the house, and the boxes of CDs are perfect for long road trips. A years-long collection of CDs that I owned were recently ruined and I have to begin collecting them again to replace them and I'm glad to do it. I like to have at least an hour's worth of time away from a phone. Maybe I'm too old of a soul tho lol I agree on the cd booklets. In the 90s I used to go into a corner and pop in a cd and go through the lyrics, pix, and thank yours. It was an EXPERIENCE. Mariah’s “Daydream”, Toni’s debut, Brandy, Crazy Sexy Cool, and Miseducation comes to mind. However these days artists aren’t even including lyrics! The booklets are basic as hell. Christina didn’t even include lyrics for Libration for the first time in her career. f**k it WHAT?!? That surprises me! Cry Pretty, Stronger Than The Truth, and Lover are three of the newest releases that I own (that came to mind) that included lyrics. I was always bummed as a kid when they didn't include lyrics (Carrie's S ome Hearts & Play On didn't have them.) Kinda sad that society as a whole is so into their phones that CDs and vinyls are now niche sellers. I'm not completely against streaming (in fact, anything to help the artist!) but I have a reason for each one. Vinyls (when I get a record player and a steady collection) for background noise when cleaning around the house, studying, and whatnot, CDs for release day when you have the album booklet in hand (provided it has the lyrics!) and streaming/buying the digital album for when you're out and about and only have access to the phone. As you can see though streaming is my personal last resort but like I said, I'll go all out for my faves (especially Carrie. She's horrible at streaming for the most part.) At least I was born and lived in a time (however short it was for me) when CDs were the thing. Hell, VHS was still a movie source when I was born, although DVDs had just come along and killed the VHS entirely by the time I was 5. I still have all mine though and play them from time to time. I love the movie-theater-at-home vibe of sitting through the previews before the "Feature Presentation"

I remember on this very website in 2006 how I was laughed at because I "rented" music from Rhapsody/Napster. I was told that "streaming" was a fad and nobody was gonna pay to rent music. My my my how times change. I remember in like 05/06, my university gave us access to a streaming service called CollegeTrax or something similar that was basically a proto-Spotify with the intention that we wouldn't use the university's network to pirate music. Except you were tethered to your computer if you wanted to listen to music so you still had to torrent stuff if you wanted MP3s for your iPod.

CDs are great if you like the artist and want to have something like a collection otherwise there isn't much need for them nowadays. If you want to own a album, you can buy it off of iTunes and if you just want to listen to albums,Spotify is the way to go.These have made it a lot easier if you like to listen to music these days, better than having carry 5-10 CDs on the go everywhere back in the day. Most cars nowadays don't even have CD players anymore.

Yeah back then Rhapsody/Napster used to work with Creative Zen MP3 players (RIP), you would download the music on them with copyright protections. If you didn't connect it to a computer within a certain amount of days (or stopped paying the subscription fee), the songs would stop working. I give them a lot of credit though because it stopped me from pirating music. I had thousands of pirated songs downloaded along with the viruses that came with them.
