55. Saint Joe on the School Bus - Marcy PlaygroundThis one deserved sooooooo much better. I know these guys were Alternative rock, but some of their songs sounded like a better Nirvana song. 54. Wash It Away - Black LabFirst time listen. I quite enjoyed this song, but couldn't place it any higher. 53. Beautiful Disaster - 311One of my favorite 311 songs. 'nuff said. 52. Walking After You - Foo FightersQuite pleasant for The Foos regular style. This one falls in between "Next year" and their fiercer stuff. Same great vocals so it suits me just as good. Does that make me a bigger fan boy? 51. Cut You In - Jerry CantrellCool song. It also just misses my top 50, but not at the expense of some of the songs you guys are letting in. 50. Mungo City - SpacehogI really loved this one. Reminded me a lot of 70's Glam Rock. 49. Sunshower - Chris CornellFirst time listen. Pretty boring. This guy needed his band for me to like his music. 48. Fire Escape - FastballNow this is a song. Great vibe. I think I might like this better than their big hit? 47. Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) - Green DayWhat the actual F U C K I N G F U C K?  This was huge on the radio. Wow. One of their best ballads ever. This song appearing before my #100 is totally uncalled for. This rank down is officially garbage. 46. Save Tonight - Eagle-Eye CherryNot a bad song but a weird one to become a pop crossover. I thought this guy was Milky Chance 20 years later, when that "Stolen Dance" song first came out. True Story. 45. Tropicalia - BeckFinally some light in this rank down. I hated this tropical travesty. 44. Uninvited - Alanis MorissetteThis Morissette song was awful. her imitation of Shakira swallowing a frog.  That piano intro sounded like music for the dead. 43. In Hiding - Pearl JamThis band was either very good or very bland for me. this song was super bland. 42. The Mummers' Dance - Loreena McKennittThis song really didn't do much for me at the start, but I just kept pushing it up after hearing worse songs on this list. 41. Time Ago - Black LabAnother really great first time listen. This is the kind of Alternative mellow stuff I dig. We are now in the Top 40. What went wrong in this rank down?  There are way too many Musical Failures still in the running. I couldn’t agree with you any more about Good Riddance. I seriously expected it top 20 and was in total shock when it went out right there. I guess you could say it was something unpredictable but in the end was right. |

I couldn’t agree with you any more about Good Riddance. I seriously expected it top 20 and was in total shock when it went out right there. I guess you could say it was something unpredictable but in the end was right. For what it's worth, it was worth all the while. |

#40 starts us off with an immediate high standard deviation...the seventeenth-highest, to be exact. This song had a brief flirtation with the top 20 early, and it spent every ranking in the top half, but it spent a not insignificant number of rankings below the top 40.
A whopping 25 top half rankings will be going away with tonight's first reveal, and twelve of those rankings belong in the top 25. Three posters will be losing a top ten, none losing their first, and two will be losing top fives. Eight of this song's remaining rankings are in the bottom 25, almost all bottom 20, and two can be found in the bottom ten. One clears a poster's bottom ten. One is a very low bottom five.

Well, Pulse may be struggling right now, but the reveals must go on.
Speaking of "struggling", #39 struggled HARD early, nearly winding up in the bottom ten early. It made a big move up the rankdown into the top half and never left after that. It would only reach the top 40 in the last third of the rankdown.
21 of the 38 participants ranked this song top half, with nine posters going a step further and ranking it top 25 20. Four posters will be losing a top ten, and two posters will be losing high top fives. There are no bottom tens for this particular song, but three posters come close.

One of the four remaining top five highest standard deviations is getting pushed out of the rankdown at #38, though it's "merely" the fifth-highest. 22 posters will be losing a top half ranking, 12 will be losing a top 25, and six will be losing a top ten. At least one poster will be losing their first top ten, and three will also be losing a top five. The opposition, meanwhile? Try seven bottom 20 and four bottom ten rankings. At least one is a bottom ten clearer.

Even though I know this is a very popular song, I'm still kind of surprised this made the top 40. I thought for sure this would be my first top ten out.

While the song at #37 does not have a top 20 high SD, it has a pretty high one all the same. This song spent two rankings outside of the top half, both fairly early on. Its highest point was also early. It spent most of the second half of the rankdown in the thirties.
All but 15 participants had this song in their top half, and though just eight posters had this song top 25, all but one had the song in their top 15, and all but two ranked it top ten. In fact, all but two ranked this song top five. Perhaps the reason this song doesn't have a top 20 highest SD is because most of the lowest rankings are in the seventies. There are two bottom twenty rankings, however.

I haven’t been able to follow this closely, but WTF! “Space Lord” was the first video they ever played on TRL, remember? I’m surprised it finished so low. “The Dope Show” was also huge on TRL, I thought it would do well just for that recognition factor alone.

Going into this rankdown, I expected the song at #36 to be divisive. It's not even one of the top 20 highest SDs...but it's barely not. This song spent most of the rankdown in the top half, and it spent at least half of the rankdown either inside the top 40 or just outside of it.
21 top half rankings will need to get out of the way, all but three belonging in the top 40. Twelve top 25 rankings will also be dealt with, and five posters will be shedding a top ten from their ranking. Three top fives follow...as well as this set's only #1 loss. The opposition isn't TOO strong, hence why this song does not have one of the 20 highest SDs, but there are three low bottom twenty rankings still, two in the bottom ten. One is a low bottom five. The other is a bottom ten clearer.
