It looks like William Michael Morgan has been dropped by Warner Music Nashville; he's no longer listed on their roster on their website.

Wow, this guy came and went. It’s a shame because some of his music was quite good, but I did get the impression that he could be a little smug or arrogant. Hopefully he can find a nice independent label that will let him just make the kind of music he wants to make.

Seemed like a nice enough guy. I think the problem with William Michael Morgan is that he couldn't sell worth a shit. "I Met A Girl" had to have such set circumstances to make it as high as it did, it benefitted from a really weak summer chart in 2016. But "Missing" never sold anything, and "Vinyl" was dead on arrival. I did think Warner Bros would try at least 1 single with him and see how it went.

I think they released all the songs digitally to see which one would sell the best and when none of them really sold at all, they decided to part ways.
It's a shame too because I really like his style. It's nothing groundbreaking but it's firmly country. The only thing I see about him not connecting with consumers is that his delivery is very monotone. He doesn't have the same punch that Luke Combs and Jon Pardi deliver successfully with their true country sounds.
I think they missed an opportunity by not trying "People Like Me" as a single, as that one was upbeat and rowdy and had some edge that the rest of his songs seem to be missing.

Could him being dropped have been in part because of him critisizing the state of country music on Twitter a few days ago?

Could him being dropped have been in part because of him critisizing the state of country music on Twitter a few days ago? He parted ways with Warner before that. If anything, parting ways gave him more freedom to speak his mind.

Such a shame, Gone Enough sounded like a hit if they had released it. So, if he parted ways with his label, does that mean these previously previewed songs can NOT be released as singles when he finds another label? Or they can still be released?

Well this is a gut punch. His debut was as good as anything I've heard in years. With his voice I have to believe he'll land somewhere, I just hope it's somewhere with a promotional budget for radio.

Bit of a shame he's been dropped because I thought his debut album was great and I likely would've enjoyed its follow-up if he were able to release one, but I certainly can't say I'm surprised about this news. "I Met a Girl" had fluke hit written all over it imo and "Missing" honestly peaked quite a bit higher at country radio than it probably should based on the lack of interest in him. Radio gave him a decently fair shake imo, but no one was really biting.

Could him being dropped have been in part because of him critisizing the state of country music on Twitter a few days ago? No. The label didn’t see enough traction with the new stuff he’s made so they opted out. It happens. He’s likely to be an indie artist now.

Label mismanages his career, picks every single wrong, then throws up their hands and says "well, guess there's no market for traditional country" and drops him.
Hopefully this gives him the chance to make the music he wants and he can have a lot more success independently, a la Sunny Sweeney.

Label seemed to set him up pretty well though. They picked a lot of good songs and sounds. Can he write?

Not many but Lonesomeville from his debut album is traditional country gold.

Not many but Lonesomeville from his debut album is traditional country gold. His album is fantastic. But the whole album is kinda the label finding country tunes written by veteran writers. He co wrote one song on there. Without a label it’s hard to find someone of his brand finding success. He doesn’t wear a V-neck with a SnapBack and skinny jeans, so he doesn’t fit today’s country at all regardless. Artists like Sunny Sweeney, Ingram, Drake White, soon to be Houser, previously Chase Rice can afford to still have a career without a label because of songwriting skills and a fan base. I’m afraid WMM has neither.
