How is "Girls Like You" forgettable? I'm not commenting on the quality of the song because we have to agree it's pretty basic, but everyone knows it. It's the first #1 song since "Havana" that everyone, of all ages, actually knows. That's what a #1 hit should be like for me. Maroon 5 songs are honestly all pretty forgettable and I can't tell the difference between most of them. payphone says otherwise, but yes all their songs pretty much merge together lol

All of their other hits sound the same I agree.

uh... definitely not. Don’t forget our current #1, “Girls Like You”. How is "Girls Like You" forgettable? I'm not commenting on the quality of the song because we have to agree it's pretty basic, but everyone knows it. It's the first #1 song since "Havana" that everyone, of all ages, actually knows. That's what a #1 hit should be like for me. Not really. No one will remember it in a year. “In My Feelings” was huge and had everyone dancing. “Nice For What” was one of Drake’s best songs. “SAD!” was huge because of the unfornuate circumstances that caused it to go #1. “God’s Plan” will be played in the years to come and was one of the biggest rap songs of all time. “This Is America” got everyone talking. “Psycho” and “Girls Like You” are definitely the most forgettable #1s.

Political statements, great dancing scenes, throwbacks. memes, literally fighting your younger self, etc. are good videos. GLYs video is extremely overhyped and not special because you got Ellen in it.

GLY (just the song) would be pretty forgettable imo. But the video is amazing and absolutely carries the song, so it's definitely memorable.

(not quite yet) final predictions 1. ZEZE 233 (NEW) 2. Girls Like You 208 (-1) 3. Happier 204 (+5) 4. Better Now 189 (-1) 5. Lucid Dreams 188 (-3) 6. MIA 175 (NEW) 7. Youngblood 171 (=) 8. Shallow 153 (-3) 9. Drip Too Hard 146 (-5) 10. SICKO MODE 132 (-4) (Note: this is my first time really predicting with a formula I created, this probably isn't accurate at all I'd listen to fhas and simon for better predictions just posting this because why not) That top 3 is the worst I've seen in a while. Crazy that ZEZE is honestly the best one out of these.....

GLY May be a pointless piece of radio filler, but at least the lead artist isn’t a rapist So? if you don't like ZEZE, don't listen to it Do you not get the point that it done by a rapist?

So? if you don't like ZEZE, don't listen to it Do you not get the point that it done by a rapist? Of course I get that some people can't separate the "art" from the artist. That is perfectly fine Some people can - which is probably why the song is a hit.

yeah even Kodak's part of ZEZE grew on me, glad it's (probably) going number 1. hopefully SICKO MODE can get there now that Lucid Dreams is out of reach

I'm listening to "ZEZE" for the first time and it's not even that bad. I like the beat. "Sicko Mode" is waaaaaay worse imo. Nothing about that song works for me.
If "Sicko Mode" does go #1 next week though it'd mean Travis Scott gets two number ones back to back. ABBA had one number one, but sure, let's give Travis Scott two hahahahahaha f*ck me sideways.

Girls Like You is f**king huge, it's one of the most catchiest songs of the decade and definitely will be remembered. I predict 30 weeks in the top 10, holidays are coming and Super Bowl after that. I also predict that GLY will be more hated than Perfect.

It is funny that we are having this discussion about the "forgetfulness" of the current #1 song. It was just a month ago that this site was in a joyful mood because a somewhat pop song had finally hit #1

Man this discussion of this year’s #1s is making me realize just how few I give af about. I Like It and In My Feelings are the only 2 I ever really put into my personal rotation. I’ve never even heard SAD and I’ve only heard GLY once or twice.

So? if you don't like ZEZE, don't listen to it Do you not get the point that it done by a rapist? Firstly, that doesn't change the song in any way. The song is still good. And second, he isn't a rapist. So all you really have to do is ignore it, or embrace it.

You're saying "better" music videos but the GLY video is legit one of the most iconic videos of the year and will be one more remembered than most of those, quality-level aside. It's a simple video but because it plays off the current women empowerment wave and is decked out with celebs, its impact is 10x more amplified.

One thing doesn't have anything to do with the other. One happened in 1977, and the other may or may not happen this year. Completely different artists; completely different time periods; completely different methodologies for compiling the chart, you can't compare the two.

I've literally never seen anyone mention the GLY music video outside of this thread and the GLY thread. Y'all use "iconic" way too loosely.

Please explain to me how it showcases female empowerment. It's a bunch of famous women dancing behind Adam Levine, with a few lip syncing the song. The video doesn't showcase their achievements or who they are as people. It just shows their existence. That's not empowering.

The Girls Like You music video is not even iconic. The most iconic videos of 2018 would be Finesse, God's Plan, This Is America, and No Tears Left To Cry. The Nice For What music video had more emphasis on female empowerment than GLY.
