Sent. I... don't really know where I was going with this. I feel pretty comfortable with my top 10 and bottom 10 but beyond that, I feel like I maybe got a little random. Also I will stand by my general assertion that I'm not a fan of 80's Madonna, however two of her songs did make my top half. 'Glee' may or may not have been a factor.

I’m finishing putting my final touches in the mid-range. A few songs I thought were gonna be bottom 20 are climbing up to the top half. My top 15 is pretty much set, though. It has a bit of everything —so I hope people don’t tank piano or guitar ballads saying ‘they’re boring!’ because they’re not!! Lol

Top two: 9/10 #3-#14: 8/10 #15-#28: 7/10 #29-#46: 6/10 #47-#69: 5/10 #70-#86: 4/10 #87-#96: 3/10 #97-#100: 2/10 As I said to the host in the PM, this was not the best of years. I have rooting interests, but I may actually be rooting against songs more than usual. I might also lose top tens and other high rankings early, too, but time will tell.

5/5 (1-6) 4.5/5 (7-14) 4/5 (15-23) 3.5/5 (24-40) 3/5 (41-62) 2.5/5 (63-83) 2/5 (84-89) 1.5/5 (90-95) 1/5 (96-98) 0.5/5 (99-100)
Will agree with Red that it's not the most packed year overall. Some real gems, though (hoping my #18, a first time listen, makes top half).
I had two artists have two entries in the top 10 with a third missing out. One artist had two entries in the bottom 10 with a second missing out.

1. What songs do you expect to see in the top 5?
Like a Prayer, Miss You Much, Straight Up, Eternal Flame, My Prerogative
2. What songs do you expect to see in the bottom-5?
Poison, 18 and Life, When I’m With You, and (if there’s a God) Batdance and Toy Soldiers. I know I’m dreaming on BD
3. Which artist/“group” will have the most Top 40 entries?
Milli Vanili or Bobby Brown

Top 5: Express yourself, Miss you much, Smooth criminal, Straight up, Sowing the seeds of love TFF were the biggest surprise in the 1985 RD so they may also surprise us this RD. None of my expected top 5 are in my personal top 5 though, and it’s okay. I do hope I’m wrong and at least two of my top 5 make it.
Bottom 5? After all (there are not enough Cher stand to compensate for the Peter Cetera hate lol); the Surface song (I don’t even remember the name as I didn’t care about it at all); When I’m with you (likely performing the same as Chicago, Journey, Lionel Richie ballads) Roni (maybe too saccharin among the NJS explosion this year?) When the children cry (dislike toward hair metal plus cheesy lyrics plus whiny vocals may rank this one).
Most top 40s? Mmmmm. I’ll go for Madonna despite some posters saying her vocals aren’t good yet this era (huh? Wtf?). That 1-2-3 punch of hits was stellar!

I'll offer one prediction: "Like a Prayer" is winning. I'd be very surprised if it doesn't win. 3. Which artist/“group” will have the most Top 40 entries? Milli Vanili or Bobby Brown

I would be stunned beyond belief if NKOTB escaped the bottom 10 unscathed. Especially with "I'll Be Loving You (Forever)" being here. I think Will To Power will be kicked to the gutter very early as well

1. What songs do you expect to see in the top 5? Like A Prayer, Love Song, Smooth Criminal, Express Yourself, Stand 2. What songs do you expect to see in the bottom-5? When The Children Cry, Look Away, After All, All This Time, Close My Eyes Forever 3. Which artist/group will have the most Top 40 entries? Madonna and Paula Abdul will get three each. Bobby Brown and Guns N' Roses could as well, but I won't be surprised if they miss out on one. I agree with Red on Like A Prayer as the likely winner. Winning the '86 Rankdown over Prince was a coin toss, but after Open Your Heart managed to win the next year and Vogue really performed above my expectations in the 90s Rankdown, I thought Madonna to be the favorite to win going into '89 and '90. The low ranks will mostly fall around the 40s so it'll avoid the huge tanks while others get them and build up a margin. Smooth Criminal I can see being a long shot dark horse, but not much beyond that. Janet hasn't done as well as I thought she would in these rankdowns, so I see her settling somewhere in the top 10. There's also some more left-field songs going top 10. Love Song, Stand, and Buffalo Stance are all contenders.

I'm just going to hope that my #100 doesn't make it out of the bottom 5 (though it probably will). Undoubtedly the worst first listen I've had in an 80s rankdown so far, a song so awful that it dethroned what I thought would be a lock for my #100 when we got to this year (which ended up being my #99).

This list overall was stronger to me than the past several, and a reason for that its that a good number of guilty pleasures appear here. I think SMWYL was when it got to songs I outright didn't enjoy for me.

Good start! I prefer The First Time by Surface to Shower... but both are too sappy. I wouldn’t rank The First Time in the Top 75 in any year.

“I’ll Be Loving You (Forever)” overstayed. Also Unhinged it still says “Billboard Top 100 of 1988” in the posts.

Absolutely excruciating on every level. The falsetto on this song is one of the worst sounds I've ever heard.
I'd seriously love to know what we were collectively smoking as a country letting this be a #1 hit.
