Is this even going to chart? This has been one of the oddest developments that I can remember recently. It feels like ZBB may never have a hit song again.

It's peaked at #58 on the BB Country Airplay chart so far, and it made it as high as #27 on the HCS chart probably thanks to decent sales/streams upon release.

I've heard this on the radio a few times now, and while I don't think it's bad (the lyrics are decent), the production is just odd. They could have (and should have) easily made this more country-sounding. With that said, I just don't think this song was ever going to be a hit. It honestly looks DOA to me, as far as the charts go, and I'm starting to think that the ZBB won't ever score any hits at country radio again. They've really fallen off, and it seems that not even a move to BBRMG/Wheelhouse (a pretty prominent label) was able to generate much momentum. Switching to a new powerhouse label and releasing a brand new song should have done a lot more to get them back on track at country radio, but this one is such an odd choice for a single and it had such a weird roll-out with it being released only to digital retailers at first and not radio (and its release to iTunes 'spoiled' the fact that they'd joined BBRMG/Wheelhouse), plus the fact that there was little to no fanfare at such a big name signing to BBRMG/Wheelhouse...it was all just really odd.
But anyway, this song definitely isn't going to be a hit. It was released digitally in November and sent for adds in mid February, and it's only at #58 on Billboard after 6 weeks. Most radio stations just aren't interested in this one. There's simply no hype/buzz around this song.

This one seems to be picking up some momentum lately, kinda weird seeing a song this old be #2(as of this moment) in the taking off chart. Everything about this song since it was released has been pretty weird, though.

It will even weirder if it ends up being a decent sized hit for them, after all this time.

I would enjoy this so much more if it went all in on the alt/rock influence rather than strattling the line between that and contemporary pop. If it had heavier production and went full on in the alt influence, this would be fantastic and in line with the best tracks from bands like Imagine Dragons, Of Monsters and Men, Mumford & Sons, etc. Otherwise, as this is, it totally sounds like Shawn Mendes attempting to write a country tinged song and failing miserably at it.

Couldn’t tell if he was telling the radio folks to piss off or the fans that don’t dig their contemporary forays as of late 😂🤷♂️

Nice. The "I chose to work in a consumer-dictated industry but I'm going to throw a hissy fit when the consumer doesn't like what I'm offering" stance.

So he’s mad fans didn’t like his new music but still like him enough to get him a win in a fan voted competition? Ok, bro.

ZBB has turned into such a joke. It's really sad. They were my favorite artist in high school. I had their poster on my wall.

He was basically telling young artists to not be Dustin Lynch, Chris Young. Good for him Dustin Lynch and Chris Young aren't exactly the epitome of real country music on the charts right now, but "Someone I Used to Know" sounds like it belongs on country radio even less than anything either of them has put out in recent history. I was never a big fan of ZBB (for every single I genuinely liked of theirs, there was 2 more that I thought were skippable), but they've really gone off the rails in the past few years and the attitude of Zac Brown is terribly off-putting. If they never see another song of theirs hit #1 ever again, I wouldn't be upset at all.

And he’s saying to the young artists - don’t sell out to the machine like Lynch and Young. I don’t love this song or the Jeklyll album, but I’ll be damned if they weren’t well thought out and original

Due to the big debuts this week, this gets pushed down 41-43*. It certainly still has a chance to make the top 40, and probably will, but it has had such a bizarre chart run so far (for such an established artist).

This is selling really well for its airplay (unless it got a boost from being performed somewhere but I doubt it). I could see this pulling a Rumor / Whiskey Glasses.

Up 39-36* and over 500K in AI. Maybe this one is finally starting to take off, though it has taken them long enough.

I was finally able to catch this on the radio, and I must say the radio edit is way better than the original track. The edit really brings out the country elements of the song and tones back the Pop/EDM sound. In the "drop", it’s only the fiddle and it’s crisp and clear instead of buried in a bunch of effects/chords/synths. At its core, this song is classic ZBB and I would love to see this continue its ascent!

I only ever hear the country radio edit on the stations around here, and it sounds so much better than the original version. Lots of fiddle at the end of each chorus, and no weird electronic sounds. This could be a slow climber and maybe peak in the top 20 similar to the latest single from Rascal Flatts...but unfortunately I think SIUTK has burned through too many weeks in the lower part of the chart to ever turn into a really big hit. I think both RF and ZBB are largely done scoring hits at country radio, unless the ZBB really turns it around and quits being so all-over-the-place with their musical output.

I still think a marathon chart run into the top 10 is possible, but I'm inclined to agree with jhomes87 that a slow climb into the top 20 range is more likely, simply because this has been out for so long already. My mom isn't really a big country fan, but she heard this on the radio the other day (the country remix) and instantly loved it, and she usually doesn't pay much attention to the radio when we have the country stations on, so something about this stands out to people, lol. I really like both versions of this and it's one of my favorite ZBB songs in many years, so here's hoping that it can pull off a miracle and get them back into the top tier of the charts.
