I quite enjoyed Lee Ann’s version of “The Weight” as it added a bit of life to the overall playlist. Even as old as this song is, my first introduction to it didn’t come until I heard Marty Stuart cover it with The Staple Singers on his Greatest Hits compilation from 1995. Just goes to show you how (then) current mainstream artists are able to introduce a younger generation to songs such as this one.

“Where Have All The Average People Gone" is the best of the three songs from its respective EP, so therefore I’m not surprised it was the one to make it further. That said, I still would’ve liked to have seen this make the top 15 because it’s such a stellar song in which the limited musical production really shines.

Going to roll the dice and say these five songs miss the top 10:
“She’s Got You” “Good News, Bad News” Ft. George Strait (this or “Liars Lie”) “Slow Boat to China” “Take Me Back to Texas” "This Ain't My First Rodeo" Ft. Jamey Johnson

Love the title of "Where Have All the Average People Gone" coupled with literally everyone ranking it within their mid teens (so neither high nor low)... except for me, lol. :kii:

I liked her cover of "She's Got You" but I found myself subconsciously comparing it to Sara Evans' since she just recently covered it at as well and I found myself wishing LAW's approach was more similar to how she handled it, because I think Sara's cover is a total home run.
It's a similar case with "Better Off" of course, but I think LAW's version of that is more comparable to Sara's rendition (though still a step below).

I was hoping "Good News, Bad News" would at least make it to the Top 10 so I'm sad that it fell out with the last list. I love the somber production on this song, along with George and Lee Ann's rather subdued performances on this. I know others don't like that but I love it and this song continues to grow on me.
Will have #11 up shortly

I almost put "Down and Out" on my prediction list from yesterday as one of the songs that might leave before the top 10, but I thought it might receive just enough support to push it ahead. Overall I'd say the rankings were about where I would've guessed them to be for it with castleoblivion26 being the lone dissenter lol. "This Ain't My First Rodeo" received a lot more support than I was expecting as I would've have predicted it to be a top 15 contender. I really wasn't a standout for me hence why I'm likely the lowest ranking participant. I quite enjoyed Lee Ann's version of "She's Got You"! I had already been listening to Patsy's as I was gearing up to launch her icon rankdown (only to swap her's out for K.T.'s after her passing), so in that regards its sometimes hard not to wanna compare any other version to the original. I haven't checked out Sara's cover yet which I'll have to do so that I can compare that to Lee Ann's. "Good News, Bad News" was one of the harder songs for me to rank as it's just never had much replay value. I liked the song a lot more back then and for whatever reason I really have no strong desire to revisit it much anymore. I wasn't expecting this to make the top 10, however, so I'm not surprised it ended up exiting now.

Well, that’s disappointing because “Time For Me to Go” was initially a top 5 contender on my list. I thought this was also one of the highlights amongst the songs from the album that never materialized.

It’s one of my favourites of hers.

I thought this was also one of the highlights amongst the songs from the album that never materialized. "Time For Me To Go" was the 2nd new song from her Greatest Hits album, alongside "The Wrong Girl". I figured I'd be an outlier on this one. I like it but not as much as many of the songs on this list

Lee Ann's version of "She's Got You" is really good, and I was hoping to see it in the top 10! Add me to the list who also prefers Sara's new version though. LAW's is flashy and modernized, to where it essentially sounds like a modern song rather than a classic cover. Sara's on the other hand has a very Patsy-esque arrangement to it, to where you can definitely tell without a doubt that it is a Patsy Cline cover. Also Lee Ann kinda goes full-throttle for the entire song, so it doesn't have a lot of nuance to it. Which is still pretty epic because the melody is powerful! Sara adds a lot of extra dimensions to the vocal however. Like, she goes into head voice on the high notes at first, only to start belting them and hitting them more and more powerfully as the song progresses. Her vocal comes across as more emotional to me because of the nuances. A song like this just makes it really obvious how different Lee Ann and Sara are as vocalists, despite the fact that they both have very undeniably country voices. LAW has always been more of a classic female country vocalist, alongside the likes of Miranda Lambert, Tanya Tucker, Lorrie Morgan, Patty Loveless, Trisha Yearwood, etc. These artists don't have huge show-stopping ranges, but they have the ability to pour their heart into the music anyway and really make you feel what they are singing. These artists are also closer to the way that female artists used to be, as they occupy a similar niche to people like Loretta Lynn, Tammy Wynette, and probably even Patsy herself. Sara, on the other hand, has always been closer to the powerhouse female vocalists that really didn't rise to prominence until the last 25 years or so, such as Reba, Faith, Martina, LeAnn Rimes, Jo Dee, Carrie, Jamie O'Neal, etc. These artists have huge ranges, and can really lean into the 5th octave in ways that are more characteristic of pop stars. Because of these differences, LAW can fill the song with emotion by belting the whole thing at full volume, whereas Sara's version would have felt over-the-top if she had belted the whole thing full-volume. But an artist like Sara has much more command of her higher range, and can use inflections and nuances up high that would probably make Lee Ann's feel less powerful if she tried to use similar nuances. So anyway, my point is, both Lee Ann and Sara's versions cater to their strengths as vocalists, and both do an amazing job. I am known for my love of showstopping female vocals though, so it's no surprise that I would like the more nuanced approach to Sara's that allows the song to feel much more epic and climactic

It'll probably be "Momma's On A Roll" or "On A Woman's Heart"!

Phew…I made it just in time to catch up before we dive any further!
I wish “If You Don’t Go” had made it a few spots higher, but either way I’m glad it landed inside the top 10. I absolutely love this song and wish that it had officially been included on a studio album. Aside from everything in the top 5, I think that this song really stands out on its own as it just has that classic sound and delivery that Lee Ann has been known for. This easily could fit in on about every album she has released throughout her career.
“Take Me Back to Texas” is another great song, although the only thing that held it back some for me is that it takes a while to find its groove. It’s a slow build but it does make for a smooth listen.
I also really enjoyed “Slow Boat to China” and is yet another song I wish would’ve been included on a studio album. Correcting me I’m wrong, but I believe Lee Ann’s is an alternate take on the song “(I’d Like to Get You on a) Slow Boat to China” made popular back in the late ‘40s. While they are not lyrically identical there are some similarities.
As for which song will miss the top 5, I’m going to have to guess it’ll be “Momma’s On a Roll”.
