while I like "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger" it has never been a favorite. I'm always been surprised at the love for this one over some of her other songs that were not big hits. Not upset to see this leave here.
Up next, an album loses one of its singles and it's the first to go...

I think that "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger" deserves a lot of points for an interesting title and premise alone. That being said, the song does not stand out among all of her other gems. this feels like a very good place for it to be leaving. One of my least favorites of the songs left in the top 20. Not at all disappointed to see it go!

"Twenty Years And Two Husbands Ago" is another interesting title and premise for a song! The story is very well-told, and country through-and-through. This one was very hard for me to rank, because on the one hand it is a very well-crafted song, but on the other it is not a particularly memorable song compared to her bigger hits. It was one that could have made the top 10 and I wouldn't have been surprised, but I am also not surprised to see it here.

Wow, I am thrilled to see that I was not totally flopping with my middling ranks for all those minor-key songs that she suddenly started releasing like they were candy after the success of "I Hope You Dance". I really thought "Does My Ring Burn Your Finger" and "Something Worth Leaving Behind" were much better loved! Thrilled to see that my rankings pretty much agree with where our collective tastes are putting them!! "Ashes By Now" is really the only one that is still in, but that is the best of all of them anyway, so I am fine seeing it in the top 15.
"Mendocino County Line" is leaving at the perfect time too. It's a good song, but nowhere near one of Lee Ann's best. It's pretty cool that she got to sing with Willie, who is no doubt one of her major influences!
"He Oughta Know That By Now" is also leaving at a perfect time. That song did not have nearly the influence on her career or on the country music industry that most of the remaining songs did. But it is still a great song! Just doesn't really have a place among the huge hits that are still left :)

“Finding My Way Back Home” is such an underrated single and I’m glad it made it this far. This still deserved better from country radio.

I need to get to bed so I'm gonna leave off there for tonight. 3 songs will miss the Top 10 and there may be a surprise coming!
If enough people are on tomorrow night we can finish this one then, otherwise we will finish this on Monday night!

"Finding My Way Back Home" is such a unique song for her. It's more the type of song you would expect a vocalist like Martina, Carrie, or maybe even Jamie O'Neal to tackle. But Lee Ann totally makes it work! It has grown on me every time I have heard it. I can definitely see the sustained notes in the chorus being annoying to some, but for whatever reason they really work for me. It's like those long notes, juxtaposed with the fairly rapid-fire delivery of the followup lines leading up to another sustained note, makes for a damn catchy chorus! "The Wrong Girl" is another very solid song from her. Tbh it sounds like classic Lee Ann, and fits right in on her Greatest Hits album, but as an individual song it isn't nearly as memorable as a lot of her earlier songs despite fitting in alongside them. If that makes any sense at all. Lol

"The Wrong Girl" deserved better here and on country radio. That's one of the most obvious hit singles she ever released so it mystifies me that it didn't even graze the top 20 of the charts when it was out. The melody on that one is just pure money. Incredibly catchy. Those steel guitar fills are a delight.

Um, "The Wrong Girl" is amazing and deserved better.
But how did "Finding My Way Back Home" make it so high though??? Probably the worst song I have EVER heard. The chorus is DEATH. Who wrote that horrendous arrangement????? Lee Ann sounds awful, the melody is awful..... just horrible!

The chorus of FMWBH has NO melody, she just screams TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE WAYYYYYYYYY BAAAAAAACK HOOOOOOOME' ...um, trash.
