NEW RELEASES: THE MEEK SHALL INHERIT THE WEEK

Meek Mill will easily claim the top spot on Friday’s Top 50. Here’s how several of the top releases for this week are looking. Check for updates soon on Alessia Cara, Dolly Parton, Ski Mask The Slump God, Trey Songs and Neil Young.

I'm hoping she can tick up a bit. Not even doing 10k from streaming is really bad. If she can get do around 20k, she'll at least be top 30, if she keeps this projection, she risks missing the top 50 altogether (Khalid's EP did just under 13.5k for #50 on the most recent chart).

FLIPOVER FRIDAY: NEW ARRIVALS AT iTUNES AND APPLE MUSIC

Before the Grammy nominations lead to purchases of nominated works in everything from Rap/Sung Performance to Roots Gospel Album and shuffle the iTunes charts, here’s an early morning look at flipover Friday.

The third album from the late XXXTentacion, SKINS (Bad Vibes Forever/Empire) opens at #1 at iTunes and #3 at Apple Music.

Brett Young’s second album, Ticket to L.A. (BMLG), books the #2 slot

ahead of Ice Cube’s Everythangs Corrupt (Lench Mob/Interscope) at #4

and Gucci Mane’s Evil Genius (Atlantic) at #5 at iTunes and #14 at Apple Music.

AFI’s The Missing Man EP (Rise) turns up at #6

with Coldplay’s Live in Buenos Aires (Parlophone) at #7.

Mary Poppins Returns (Walt Disney), featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda and Emily Blunt floats down at #8.

Just outside the Top 10 are Van Morrison’s The Prophet Speaks

and LP’s Heart to Mouth.

Meek Mill’s Championships (Atlantic) has officially topped the HITS Top 50 Chart, moving around 208k. That included, a total of four debuts make up the Top 5, as Lil Baby’s Street Gossip (QC/Motown/Capitol), The 1975’s A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships (Interscope) and Ski Mask the Slump God’s Stokeley (Republic) make waves at #3, #4 and #5 with 84k, 61k and 52k, respectively.

And rounding out the Top 15, Tan Cressida/Columbia’s Earl Sweatshirt pulls in 30k with his Some Rap Songs.

New releases aside, most of this week’s noteworthy movement comes from the yuletide albums. Mariah Carey’s Merry Christmas (Epic) leaps #22-17, while Vince Guaraldi Trio’s A Charlie Brown Christmas rises #39-25 and Pentatonix’s That’s Christmas to Me (RCA) goes #48-33. The latter’s most-recent set, meanwhile, remains in the Top 10, tacking on another 37k.

As for the re-entries, there’s Nat King Cole's Christmas Song (Capitol) at #21, Frank Sinatra’s Ultimate Christmas (Legacy) at #36, Perry Como's Classic Christmas Album (Legacy) at #41, Elvis Presley’s It’s Christmas Time (BMG) at #44, Gene Autry’s Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (Columbia) at #46 and Andy Williams’ The Classic Christmas Album (Legacy) at #50. And yes, we know you eagerly await HITS tour-de-force Buddy the Brown Nosed Weasel. Patience is a virtue.

When it comes to marketshare, UMG leads the way with 51%, WMG follows with 27% and SME is #3 with 22%.

Streeting this week are projects by Empire’s XXXTentacion and Big Machine’s Brett Young, as well as Disney’s Mary Poppins Returns soundtrack.

Wow, those are much better numbers than I thought Meek would pull. I saw the first few days of the album's activity on Spotify and concluded it wouldn't do beyond 125-150k sps. It did a bit better on Apple Music, but it really didn't dominate that platform either. A lot of it's streams must have come from Going Bad, What's Free and On Me. Either way, amazing to see him come out of jail a SECOND time and score another #1 album. Championships, indeed!
