So sad. This is the epitome of 1979/1980. This rankdown has made me realize how much music changed from 1980 to 1982.

80-61: I cleared my bottom 10 when Dionne Warwick left (sorry, but that song was a borefest to me). And unfortunately I had my first top 20 losses as well :'( Here my biggest divergences: 76. Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer (24): My favorite KR song in this RD. And one of my favorite songs off that Greatest Hits cassette that my dad brought from the US in 1981. I still like the dramatic, heartfelt vocals from Kim and Kenny and the overall melody of this song. I really thought it would escape the bottom quarter... 75. All Out of Love (45): This shows my fandom for Air Supply. I've always liked the melody and vocals of this song, as well as the dramatic bridge-silence-chorus section and final harmonies. 72. Do That To Me One More Time (59): Another song that I've kept soft spot for, although not as much as back in the 80s. Nice melody and vocals (back in the day I thought it was Dione Warwick tho ) 71. Don't Let Go (90): I wanted to like more of this disco vibed song, but it felt underwhelming including with those slightly bored male vocals 69. The Rose (15): WHAT?!!! This is a classic. The first time I heard it in full I got tearyeyed. And even now if I just listen to it, it strucks an emotional chord... I love how Bette sings and harmonizes. Simple but beautiful song. 68. Babe (14): WHATT!!?!! This was HUGE back home in the 80s. I love Dennis' vocals as well as the overall melody and intrumentation. A classic ballad. And of course the type of ballad rejected by Pulse 66. Send One Your Love (53): Back in the 80s I didn't care much for this style of music, but I've come around to like it better with time. 65. Jojo (49): I wasn't a big fan of this song back in the early 80s, but with time I've grown to like it more. The instrumentation as well as the disco soul and soft rock combo works better for me now mixed with nostalgia of those years. 63. Drivin' My Life Away (76): I had some doubts about where to rank it. In the end, this was a cute little bop. Not bad but just a bit too simple to escape my bottom quarter. 64. Please Don't Go (33): I go back and forth with this one. Not a big fan in the early 80s, then I liked it more in the late 80s and early 90s when the techno mixes came about, then not as much later on, etc. I'm now in a stage of appreciation of this song, but I do understand why it's this low.

Wow these reveals killed my top 20. And here I was thinking I was doing well with my highest loss being 22 before.

I had forgotten that I had so many low songs still in. Thank god most of this rankdown was, at the very least, average. I'm glad that a couple of songs, in particular, made the top 40. I expected one of them to miss the top half entirely.

60. Sexy Eyes (43): I liked this disco pop tune back in the day, and I still do. The guy jamming in the video puts a smile in my face :) 59. Tired Of Toein' the Line (31): Awww... This is corky and fun. Really like how he sings it and the music is just fun pop. I really liked this back in the day, and it's aged quite well to me. 58. Fire Lake (81): This was a first listen. I wanted to like it, but it didn't connect with me... with this leaving, I have 2 bottom 25 left. 57. This Is It (39): Nice pop funky song, but I think Michael McDonald significantly elevates it. 56. She's Out of My Life (52): He sings this very well, but the song itself is a bit too bland. 55. Escape (The Pina Colada Song) (41): Even though it wasn't a huge favorite of mine back in the day, in the late 80s it became almost synonymous with sunset and beach music :) 54. Coming Up (44): I liked this way more back in the early 80s. That trumpet-like sound ends up being a bit annoying now, although overall is a fun pop song. 53. One Fine Day (72): This was a first line that I slightly under-ranked due to low familiarity. 52. Emotional Rescue (46): I like Mick's vocal performance here, and the overall vibe of the song, although for a RS song it's just not that strong. (Btw, I think MJ and RS are often well ranked and not giving many extra points for being who they are.... whereas I can't say the same for Prince, who could've also easily left this RD already ) 51. Hurt So Bad (66): Pretty good chorus but underwhelming verses. Good to see it leave before her other jam.

The rest can go. The only songs I'm kinda bummed about leaving earlier are Hurt So Bad, Into The Night, and Sailing. All fantastic classics.

Just a reminder that the MV For Into The Night has got to be one of the creepiest and weirdest videos ever.

lol I guess if her being '16 years old' didn't raise any flags at radio it meant skies the limit with the video?

Sailing is out too soon, that song is a gem.
Little Jeannie and Empty Garden are probably my two favourite Elton singles.
Wait For Me was a first listen I enjoyed, it has a real 60s soul/motown vibe to it. It's production is an indicator of what H & O would have in store for their many hits still to come.

you made me go seek out the video...i can't unsee that...omg...that was BAD...it kinda ruins the song for me now Have always thought this video was one of the creepiest #43 . I nto The Night - Benny MardonesThe song is not about a 30 year old guy stalking a 16 year old. they are both supposed to be teenagers, but Benny just wanted to feature himself in the MV. Who can blame him? It's his song. What's even more disturbing is that this song returned to the charts in 1989, because some dee jay in Arizona decided to add it to the playlist. I'm surprsed you guys didn't tank it because of the first line of the song?

#50. Kim Carnes - More Love I like smooth Disco vibes. This seeemd like a P-P-P- Perfect song to anchor my Top 50.
#49. Little Jeanie - Elton John I remember hearing this song on the radio always almost immediately before Olivia's "Magic", so I would never let my parents change the radio dial, just in case it came on.
#48. Wait For Me - Hall & Oates can you believe that I didn't know this song existed? I thought their career began with "You've Lost That Love and Feeling"? I thought "Rich Girl" was from 80's too?
#47. The Long Run - Eagles Perfect slot for this song. The correct one is out first.
#46. Steal Away - Robbie Dupree I was afraid you all would tank this. Glad you didn't. This song is as mellow rock as one can get, but sounds great while cruising down the highway in the night. "Hot Rod Hearts" was equally as catchy, but it peaked at #15. Both of this easily make my top 40 of 1980.
Hot Rod Hearts preformed on Solid Gold.
#45. You May Be Right - Billy Joel I didn't like this song too much back then. I remember starting to like it in the 90's, because it had Meatloaf vibes.
#44. Biggest Part Of Me - Ambrosia This band was soft Rock heaven. This is a good song but I much more prefer the one I recall hearing on the radio titled "You're The Only Woman"
#43. Into The Night - Benny Mardones never really cared for this one in 1980 nor in 1989.
#42. Sailing - Christopher Cross LOL to you all, but this is a jam. Lying in bed in the dark with the headphones on this song takes you to other worlds. You literally see colours in your mind while the song is on.
#41. We Don't Talk Anymore - Cliff Richard damn. Just misses the top 40. Another superb soft rock song with Disco vibes. I charted this one, "Dreamin" and "Sailing" with Olivia Newton-john. later on in life I found out Cliff started his music career in the late 50's. Before the Beatles England had Cliff Richard.
