Glad NTLTC won. If I re did my ranking now it would be top 10 instead of Finesse which I loved back in the day but I just seem to like it less and less as time goes by.

Wait, nobody's going with Thank You, Next as the 2019 winner? Sambalada and Leo ✔, thank you for running this 2018 rankdown and keeping it as smooth as possible considering some of the glitches that happened. Might as well get into the top 10 and reveal why I ranked songs the way I did. As people say, before the truth will set you free, it'll piss you off: 10. Delicate---Decent and a helluva comeback for Taylor after the s-storm that was Endgame (if I could have ranked that one, it would be bottom 5 easy). Not a huge fan of the electronics and I could live if I never, ever had to hear about her reputation again. 9. God is a Woman---OK, this is surprising. I would've thought this was final three bound. It was fine (and a real good sign since I liked only one song from Dangerous Woman), but it didn't do as much for me as No Tears Left to Cry. 8. Feel It Still---I'm guessing this didn't work for some of you because it's left over from 2017? Shame. I find that this tune allows me to move, still, and there's more going on under the surface than you think. I wish Live in the Moment had charted and done well; it was a worthy follow-up. 7. Havana---Last year, this might have been top 25 for me. Time hasn't been as kind to this as it was to Feel It Still as it gives me better time to reflect on the song's weaknesses. Young Thug adds nothing, the song feels like there's no end point. Still compared to most Fifth Harmony tunes/future releases, it's fine and probably a high water mark. 6. Pray for Me---I think those rooting for this song's demise are the ones that need the prayer way more than me. Not only does it combine two great tastes (Kendrick Lamar, The Weeknd) that go well together, it manages to become something more. Kendrick is fire here, and the Weeknd sounds upbeat; deserved better. 5. Nice for What--- FINALLY!!! This song has vastly overstayed by about 40-50 spots. Random song 100 about Drake versus the haters is too busy with its production when it isn't boring. You're rich enough, Drake. You can afford a therapist. Don't take out your neuroses on us. 4. New Rules--- Finally! Perhaps I underranked this one by about 10 spots or so, but I'm not a huge fan of songs where half the chorus is swallowed up by the singer (see also Chandelier). Also, the whole tropical house song has all the artificial feel of sonic Velveeta. Nice once in a while, but overplayed killed the charms for me (was never against the song repeating itself; she's reminding herself to be a better person). 3. All the Stars---This was pretty good (I really need to see Black Panther). Kendrick and SZA both operate well under a catchy beat. 2. Finesse---I found the chemistry between Bruno and Cardi B to be on point and it may well be the best song from 24 Karat Magic. 1. No Tears Left to Cry---I dug the retro sounding feel of the song. Ariana is a talented singer; I didn't even mind her attempt at rapping (RiRi was better with Lemon). Worthy winner. |
