Is this the weekly 20 version recap of the year? How the hell cam Dua Lipa New Rules be number 36? Meanwhile they have Foster the Peoplee ahead of them? What kind of data is this stupid countdown going off of? I almost jammed on my brakes in my car while driving and heard them announcing number 36 for Dua Lipa ???

Yeah i read about a top 50 countdown but not one word at all about a top 100 yet? Usually it’s played on Christmas Eve week and next week.
Edit: I’m fairly certain this is the year end countdown with just 50 songs instead of 100.

Yea but these numbers are not justified. Makes no sense in the seeding order. The year is 12 months and 100 songs are the right amount,

I guess 10 hours is too long? This is the same exact format as last year with interviews just with 50 songs, I don’t know what chart this is based on either.

With regard to the cutback to 50 songs (down from 100 in the years 2013-2017), it could be because some stations were not thrilled with having to take a ten-hour program and wanted something shorter. Possibly also because the stations may not have wanted to be airing (perceived) "stiffs" in the lower part of the countdown. Or (on a related note) maybe it was thought that there weren't enough selections from positions 51-100 worth airing this year. Just conjecture on my part...I could be wrong.

I can’t figure out what their formula was for this year’s chart. “New Rules” is only at #37? “Sicko Mode” is top 20? “Lucid Dreams” is top 5? Makes no sense. It’s almost as “dartboardy” as a Rick Dees chart.

I don't think there is any formula that I can tell, but it definitely favors a lot of the urban songs that weren't nearly that big on pop radio this year. And it included two alternative songs as well like that.

I stumbled on this Mashable article that said iHeart combined radio spins and play counts from iHeart's free and paid streaming services to find the 'top' songs and artists of the year. (Ignore that Mashable then used an interactive map in the article that says 'source: Mediabase' lol) That would likely explain the wonkiness; I can't imagine iHeart pulls in that many streams compared to other services and the streams they do pull in are probably not that representative of overall popularity.

Does it have to do with user interaction on the iHeartRadio app? Maybe it’s somehow based on the number of “thumbs up” from users of the app.

Listeners forget that radio stations come first.if just one PD complains about stiffs, that can change the format permanently.

How nice. Hot 99.5 got all the way to number 2. Then went to dead air for a few. Then came some voice tracked dj. No number one.

But here’s the thing... there actually were a couple stiffs that would’ve otherwise ranked at the very BOTTOM of the top 100 otherwise. Stuff like “Home With You”, “Taste”, arguably “Sicko Mode”, and I guess “IDGAF” and “Remind me to Forget” as well.

New Rules not being top 5 (let alone #37) means this isn't to be taken seriously.

"no tears left to cry" #44 below "breathin" and "thank u, next" which are both in the top 30 without having peaked? Lol

I’ll stick with AT40. They’re using an official year-end chart.

I remember the good old days when station s would have their own year end countdowns. For example the top 102 of kiss fm 102.7 in LA or Top 100 of Z100 New York

They really should’ve stuck with the top 100, but instead they went with a top 50 show that is way less credible than Rick Dees show? Wtf?
