<eye roll>. this Tim guy’s rankings never fail to frustrate me...but the rest of you? I’m VERY disappointed! You can't guilt trip me into liking, arguably, The Police's worst single, Tom. You can't do it. Besides, that's nothing. Wait until you see where I ranked the OTHER one.

60. Smoky Mountain Rain (72): I hadn't heard this one before, but I did like the melody more than other Ronnie songs. A clear bottom third for me, though. 59. A Woman Needs Love (44): That music/melody in the hook is sort of 80s classic stuff. The verses were just not as strong as the chorus, but still a nice R&Bish jam. 58. I Love You (85): I'm VERY surprised at how high this ended up. It was an underwhelming first listen. Much rather hear the Air Supply ballads 57. The Best of Time (71): I like several Styx songs, but this is not one of my favorites. 56. Really Want To Know You (64): A first listen that kept getting better with each play. Good spot for it. 55. Time (29): Oh, no!!!! This is a haunting, alternative ballad that I've always loved. Vocals are piercing, the melody is effective, and the whole music and production puts you in a different mood. This one deserved being in the top 50 at least. 54. Seven Year Ache (87): Finally!! Another quite underwhelming first listen --and with this one leaving I finally cleared my bottom 20. 53. A Little In Love (58): Nice, cute bop that brings a smile when I hear it. 52. Winning (55): A nice tune as well, as often Santana is capable of. 51. Woman In Love (25): A big hit back home, with good recurrent airplay. A personal favorite from Barbs. Lovely vocals, strong melody throughout the song, and good production. Why is it not in the top 50?! >:(

#50. You've Lost That Loving Feeling- Hall & Oates Already starting off wrong. Great song. Love the midbreak and yes that's "Summer Nights" in the intro.
#49. Modern Girl - Sheena Easton Truthfully I didn't recall this song, but it sounded great this time around.
#48. Hey Nineteen - Steely Dan Never much into progressive music of any sort. This was alright.
#47. Tell It Like It Is - Heart Heart doing their take on 50's ballads. I think they showed a lot of emotion on this one
#46. Endless Love - Diana Ross and Lionel Richie Never cared for this sappy ballad one bit.
#45. For Your Eyes Only - Sheena Easton Now this is the sort of ballad I can sing my teeth into. Sheena always sounded stellar.
#44. All Those Years Ago - George Harrison This guy needed his former band mates to impress me.
#43. Theme from The Greatest American Hero (Believe It or Not) - Joey Scarbury This one deserved so much better. Such uplifting lyrics and music. This was my favorite show at one time. I always thought William Katt was doing the singing. Probably why I loved it so.
#42. De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da - The Police LOL! Seeing someone say this is thier worst single makes my sides hurt from the laughter attack. This was the first song that got me into the Police. I didn't even know "Roxanne" until years later, but this one is a classic. I still have my little 'Zenyatta Mondatta' cassette. Oh yeah, You guys suck.
#41. Passion - Rod Stewart It's not "Da Ya Think I'm Sexy", but a great song none the less. The atmosphere of the song really gave an erotic vibe. I'm pretty sure many photographers played this one in the back round while photographing famous models.

Lost just one song that I really care about, but what a song to lose. "Just the Two of Us" is silky smooth.
(Can't say I'm particularly a fan of "Watching the Wheels" being the lowest of the Lennon songs, either, but at least the other quite solid one is highest.)

I fully expected to lose my number one far before the top 10 like I often do with these 80s rankdowns, but I'm surprised to see no other top tens for this one.

50. You've Lost That Loving Feeling (69): This was a very good cover, but not that different from the original, so I couldn't rank it very high. 49. Modern Girl (30): I have the EMI 45 rpm of this one. A big hit back home, her most successful this year (yearend top 10), and a song that my mom really liked... well, both of us loved all Sheena's singles to be honest :) 48. Hey Sixteen (59): I like the music quite a bit and the melody in the chorus. Very smooth and elegant. The verses could've been a bit stronger, but I admit I could've ranked it a bit higher. 47. Tell It Like It Is (37): Actually, I didn't recall this cover from Heart. I didn't have much expectation when I saw it in this RD, but when I heard it, it was a great surprise. This is an excellent cover where the vocals take it to another level, and the more guitar-based rock made a very good transformation as well. Great to see it in the top 50. 46. Endless Love (4): Oh, geez!! Pulse can be so predictable some times! This is a gorgeous, tender ballad, with great lead and harmonizing vocals from both. I don't think it's even cheesy, just a pure, simple but effective love song. (By the way, I think that the cover by Luther and Mariah completely destroyed the emotion of this song and turned it into an over-sung senseless melismatic battle ) 45. For Your Eyes Only (24): Epic instrumentation (very good representative of the Bond films), and excellent vocals. Another national yearend top 30. I was hoping she could have at least a couple songs in the top 40 I guess it's good she at least had her 3 songs in the top 50. 44. All Those Years Ago (31): Awwww. So many good memories with this one. I loved it since the first time I heard it. The melody, music, vocals, and the overall melancholic vibe of the song, plus the lyrics. I was afraid it was gonna be tanked, so I'm glad it at least made the top 50. 43. Believe It or Not (62): I used to like this song much more back in the 80s, especially because of the melody in the chorus, but as time has gone by I've found it to be too cheesy... even cheesier than Air Supply I feel this took the spot of more deserving songs for the top 50. 42. De Do Do Do, de Da Da Da (42): I used to not like this song that much back in the day. I found the chorus simply stupid even though it was another big hit back home. With time, I grew to really appreciate the music as well as the strength of the verses and bridge. Good to have a P-P-P-PERFECT ranking! 41. Passion (28): This is another great 80s tune by Rod, and a yearend top 30 back home. I was a big fan of Rod to be honest, with many of his songs being amongst my favorites in the early 80s. The melody and music of this one is pretty good, with that classic piano sound, and that dynamic post-chorus that adds to the complexity of the song. Wish it had been a bit higher. 40. Being With You (46): Very nice, smooth, elegant R&B hit by Smokey. I wasn't sure where to rank it, except the it had to be in my top 50, but below Ray and Grover 39. Ain't Even Done With The Night (61): I heard this for the first time only a few years ago. I think it's a cute simple bop, but that's it. He's had much better songs and there were much better songs this year 38. Just The Two Of Us (27): My favorite of the male R&B songs. I LOVE the instrumentation, sax included, the production and vocals. Very smooth, sexy, and elegant. Good to see it in the top 40, although I was hoping it could be a bit higher... 37. Watching the Wheels (48): Great to see John Lennon with 3 top 40s in this RD (although the artist with 3 top 40s in my RD was Sheena Easton :) ). This was my least favorite of John's songs in this RD. Nice melody, but it's never been in my top 5 Lennon solo songs.. 36. I Love A Rainy Night (63): Huh? Very surprised at the ranking of this song. It's a cute but just too simple and uneventful song to me. Now I only want my #66 and #67 to leave soon...

??? Are you kidding me? Ugh, I knew I should have made my #2 my #1 instead of Hold On Tight. But I had already ranked my #2 at the top in a previous rankdown, so I just wanted to switch things up...

#40. Being With You - Smokey Robinson"Tears Of A Clown" I can understand, but this seemed like a "wild card" of a song to make top 40? #39. Ain't Even Done With The Night - John CougarGreat song. This one and "This Time" are both great. I really hope this is an indication of John Cougar songs for 1982. I mean the y are 10 times better than this one. #38. Just The Two Of Us - Grover Washington, Jr.Truth be told. I prefer Will Smith's version. It has more groove #37. Watching The Wheels - John LennonI never was a fan of this particular John Lennon song. #36. I Love A Rainy Night - Eddie Rabbitcatchy enough and pretty good melody, but I hate a rainy night, and day and even 15 minutes of rain. #35. Too Much Time On My Hands - StyxHell Yes! I'm the highest ranker. My favorite Styx song. All guitars works are perfect in this song. That bass gives the ticking away of the clock vibe and the guitar licks before every verse. The clapping in the chorus. Love it. You gotta love the band's facial expressions in this MV too. #34. Master Blaster (Jammin') - Stevie Wonder Stevie Wonder has some classics in his discography, I didn't care for this one bit. #33. Hold On Tight - Electric Light OrchestraA good place for the song. I think it actually make my own top 100 of 1981, but I enjoyed all the songs off Xanadu way more. #32. Take It On The Run - REO SpeedwagonThis one just misses my top 20. Everyone I know loves this one. I'm glad "Keep On Loving You" is still in this. #31. Woman - John LennonThis is the one I loved from "Double Fantasy". Such beautiful lyrics and delivery from John. Should have been top 20 here.
