I was looking at the mediabase top 40 chart archives and I see the word "recurrent" used a lot. I was wondering what the standard is for a song becoming a recurrent...i.e. after X number of weeks on the charts it becomes a recurrent?
Please clarify for me
Thanks! Scott

Scott I might be wrong, but I thought after 26 weeks, you have to be top 50. After 52 weeks, you have to be top 25. Anytime a song breaks that rule it becomes recurrent.

Recurrent rules changed over time, and I don't know what they are now. The CHR-Pop chart used to have a rule of over 20 weeks and below Number 20. On the Billboard Hot 100, Creed's "Higher" went recurrent and was allowed to re-enter when CHR-Pop and Hot AC stations started playing it. It went recurrent after peaking on rock formats.

It differs depending on the radio format, but on pop, after a song has been inside the top 40 for 20 weeks, it becomes eligible for recurrency. Songs go recurrent after two consecutive weeks of spin losses and once they're below the top ten.
Hot AC, Rhythmic, Urban, and Alternative all follow these rules if I remember correctly.

On the various Billboard song charts, a song usually has to last at least 20 weeks on the specific chart to qualify as a recurrent.

At Mediabase, songs which are down in points and spins for three consecutive weeks are moved to the recurrent chart, and that's been the case for over three decades.
