Really hope Sunflower can overtake Without Me soon, I like both songs but damn did Without Me burn on me fast. I was sick of the song a month ago. Swan Lee verse is so bad I actually love Swae Lee's part, I think his voice fits perfectly with the beat of the song.

Statistically, Sunflower deserves a #1, especially over Without Me. But I just can't get worked up about it.
Now, if it was Wow. getting blocked like this, I would probably have meltdowns all over the board.

Several of the 1990's Hot 100 Y/E charts are so bizarre.
For example, let's take 1990.
• Nothing Compares 2 U - Sinead O' Connor: #1 for 4 weeks / Top 10 for 10 weeks / YE #3
• Vision of Love - Mariah Carey: #1 for 4 weeks / Top 10 for 8 weeks / YE #6
• Hold On - Wilson Phillips: #1 for 1 week / Top 10 for 9 weeks / YE #1
"Vision of Love" & "Nothing Compares 2 U" were the longest running #1's of 1990, which had two of the longest runs in the top 10 that year also, and yet "Hold On" was the YE #1?
Even Madonna's "VOGUE" and Bel Div Devoe's "Poison" had longer runs at #1 and in the top 10 (although the latter peaked at #3).
How did BILLBOARD calculate the YE charts during these times? Did songs that spent more time in the top 20 or on the chart overall weigh more because the above doesn't make sense to me.

Apparently Juice Wrld is jumping on a Without Me remix...it’s out tonight lol If Halsey's team promote this right and crediting Juice WRLD, Without Me can get more weeks at #1 and Juice WRLD could somehow get his first #1.

What Halsey did was very intelligent. Juice Wrld has the perfect voice for without me. This remix could bring in more streaming numbers and quite a handful of sales. Also, Juice Wrld could make the song go #1 AM and do 1M+ on Spotify.

Halsey's record made a right decision by releasing a remix featuring one of the most featured artists right now (Juice WRLD) also while it is hot and at the top. Unfortunately, Sunflower caught up in that and possibly not getting #1 at all and sticking at #3. Post's record made a wrong decision by not pushing Better Now while it is at its peak, now they've likely did the same thing to Sunflower.

Only the fans.

Oh man, I wanted Sunflower to be #1. Ugh... I hate this remix/discount/multiple versions on YT thing. Girls Like You (3 more weeks at #1 thanks to its second video) TUN (at least 1 more week at #1 - a zillion official audio/videos on YT) SICKO MODE (discount + remix + album) Perfect (3 versions) Add a trash of a formula to that (radio with 35% of the points)... R.I.P. Billboard.

I’d wondered about this a bit before but never really looked at it and assumed “HO” had a long run in the top 10. The #2 song for 1990 was “It Must Have Been Love,” which had 2 weeks at #1. Not sure of its top 10 weeks. How did the songs in question rank on the recent list of all time female songs? :ETA: I just saw that “NC2U” was #30, “VOL” #68, and “HO” #72.

Regarding the 1990 year-end chart, isn't it just possible that "Hold On" amassed the most points regardless of stay at #1 or in the top 10? Like, maybe the week it went to #1, it had a massive amount of points. Idk

AT40 based their YE chart on weekly chart positions. Billboard based their YE chart on weekly sales and radio points.

The 1990 Year -End Charts were compiled by computer from Billboard's weekly and biweekly charts during the eligibility period, which is Nov.18, 1989 through Nov. 17, 1990 for all the charts. Final year -end chart positioning is based on a point system. Points are given to each record (single or album) for each week on the chart, in a complex inverse relation to the chart position.

"complex inverse relation" ??
#100 gets 1 point? #1 gets 100 points? That's complex? LOL

Did songs that spent more time in the top 20 or on the chart overall weigh more because the above doesn't make sense to me. To me, determining the Top 100 of the year in early December is like declaring the Super Bowl winner in the third quarter. Why not wait until the game ends?
The BBYE charts are always based on Dec 1 (previous year)-Nov 30 (current year) or so, therefore songs that spend their entire chart run within that span always have the advantage. Songs released in the fall & winter get shortchanged.
I've created charts that avoid that trap, by including each song's entire chart run, even in previous and following years, and assigning songs to the years they first reached their highest position (so no splitting points between years). And I've gone back to 1988 (so far) on this site.
You can see my version of the 1990 chart here. Other years (1998 to 2017) are also listed. The 2018 chart isn't finished because several songs are still on the chart.
But to save you a link, on this version, Sinead is #3 for the year 1990, Mariah's Vision is #4 (but Love Takes Time is #2), and Wilson Phillips slips to #6. Vogue is #5. Poison is #10 on the year-end.
And #1? Because I Love You (The Postman Song) by Stevie B.
History is most accurate at a distance.

In looking at it, “Hold On” had 18 weeks in the top 40. “VOL” had 17 and “NC2U” had 15. That makes more sense for it being above “NC2U” though you wouldn’t think the 1 week difference with “VOL” would have made a huge difference.
