www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/8494201/a-boogie-wit-da-hoodie-no-1-billboard-200-chart-hoodie-sznA Boogie Wit da Hoodie's 'Hoodie SZN' Spends Second Week at No. 1 on Billboard 200 Chart1/21/2019 by Keith Caulfield A Boogie Wit da Hoodie’s Hoodie SZN spends a second week leading the Billboard 200 albums chart, as the set earned 56,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Jan. 17, according to Nielsen Music (down 4 percent). Hoodie SZN’s second stanza atop the list is also the eighth straight week a rap album has been No. 1 on the tally – the longest streak for any genre since Drake’s Views spent its first eight weeks at No. 1 (May 28-July 16, 2016-dated charts). The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week in the U.S. based on multi-metric consumption as measured in equivalent album units. Units are comprised of traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). The new Jan. 26-dated chart (where Hoodie holds at No. 1) will be posted in full on Billboard's websites on Wednesday, Jan. 23 (one day later than usual, due to the Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Jan. 21 in the U.S.). Hoodie SZN continues to be overwhelmingly driven by streaming activity on the chart, as almost 55,000 of its total units come from SEA units, while TEA units equal 1,000, and album sales number a little under 1,000. The set’s album sales actually dip a bit from what they were a week ago. (Billboard rounds all Nielsen Music units and sales to the nearest thousand.) Thus, with Hoodie SZN’s sales slipping further, it beats its own record for the smallest weekly album sales total for a No. 1 on the Billboard 200 since the tally transitioned from an album sales-only list to a multi-metric-consumption ranking in December of 2014. At No. 2 on the new Billboard 200, the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse soundtrack hits a new high, rising 3-2 with 52,000 units (up 6 percent). The album is basking in the glow of its No. 1 Billboard Hot 100 hit, “Sunflower,” by Post Malone and Swae Lee. The track climbing to No. 1 on the most recently published list, dated Jan. 19. The rest of the Billboard 200’s new top 10 is full of former No. 1s. Rounding out the Billboard 200’s top five: 21 Savage’s I Am > I Was falls 2-3 (46,000 units; down 17 percent), Post Malone’s beerbongs & bentleys steps 5-4 (43,000 units; down 1 percent) and Meek Mill’s Championships slips 4-5 (42,000 units; down 9 percent). Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s A Star Is Born soundtrack ascends 7-6 (40,000 units; down 1 percent) while remaining the top-selling album of the week, with 22,000 copies sold (up 6 percent). Travis Scott’s Astroworld moves 6-7 (nearly 40,000 units; down 3 percent), Drake’s Scorpion is a non-mover at No. 8 (39,000 units; down 4 percent) and the soundtrack to The Greatest Showman, which rises 11-9 (36,000 units; up 4 percent). Closing out the top 10 is Kodak Black’s Dying to Live, falling 9-10 (35,000 units; down 10 percent). Notably, for the third week in a row, there isn’t a single debut within the top 40 of the Billboard 200 chart. The last time the region housed any bows was on the Jan. 5-dated list, when four new arrivals populated the top 40 (including I Am > I Was and Hoodie SZN at Nos. 1 and 2). The dearth of debuts, owed to the usual post-holiday season lull for new releases, should halt on the Feb. 2-dated list, as industry forecasters suggest that Future’s new Future HNDRXX Presents: The WIZRD could open atop the tally. Other likely top 40 bows may come from Maggie Rogers’ Heard It In a Past Life and Cody Johnson’s Ain’t Nothin’ to It.

Man the BB200 has become so dull. The same soundtracks and hip-hop albums lingering for months on end.

If my count is correct, this is The Greatest Showman's 50th week in the top 10 on Album Sales. Where would that land it on the list of longest runs in the top 10 since the '60s ? (I don't know, off-hand, if any other albums have spent 50+ weeks on the sales chart since December 2014).

The "weeks on" for the sales chart is kind of goofy since for older albums it blends in with Billboard 200 data

^Yah- I believe it's time spent in the top 100 from May 25, 1991-on. However, just looking at the 50-week sum, would that place it in the top 20?

Soundtracks did well on the album charts in the days before album sales took off in the 60's and 70's. looks like they are going to dominate the sales numbers again .

Due to the quirky SEA and TEA rules from the 1/19 thread
Queen's Greatest Hits I,II & III moved last week from 137 to 10 (because it sold more than the movie soundtrack Now that the movie is out for purchase, the Greatest Hits album falls from 10 to 187
Meanwhile since Bohemian Rhapsody sold more this week it picks up the SEA and TEA points that it lost last week
Chart run: 15-76-13

Billboard 200 Chart Moves: 'Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse' Soundtrack Hits New High News By Keith Caulfield | January 26, 2019 4:45 PM EST
On the latest Billboard 200 albums chart (dated Jan. 26), A Boogie Wit da Hoodie’s Hoodie SZN held at No. 1 for a second week (earning 56,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Jan. 17, according to Nielsen Music), while not a single album debuted in the top 40 for the third straight week in a row. The Billboard 200 chart ranks the week’s most popular albums based on their overall consumption. That overall unit figure combines pure album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
Now, let’s take a closer look at some of the action on the rest of the Billboard 200:
-- Soundtrack, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse -- No. 2: The soundtrack to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse scales new heights, rising 3-2 with 52,000 equivalent album units earned (up 6 percent). The companion set to the hit animated feature film includes the recent Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 “Sunflower” by Post Malone and Swae Lee.
Spider-Man -- which debuted at No. 5 on the Dec. 29, 2018-dated chart and then moved 13-5-3-2 -- is the latest soundtrack to climb to new heights on the Billboard 200 in the early part of the year. Soundtracks often ascend the chart during this time due to a lack of new releases crowding the chart after the holidays, many albums plummeting down the list post-Christmas (thus freeing up space for newer titles and soundtracks) and music-filled movies doing big business at the holiday and post-holiday box office (or on home video).
Other soundtracks that climbed to the Billboard 200’s top three rungs in January and February of previous years:
The Greatest Showman Debuted at No. 73 and then moved 63-5, and then to No. 1 on Jan. 13, 2018.
La La Land Debuted at No. 118 on Dec. 31, 2016 and then moved 95-52-15, and then to No. 2, its peak, on Jan. 28, 2017.
Moana Debuted at No. 16 on Dec. 10, 2016, and then moved 5-7-8-10-6 and then to No. 2, its peak, on Jan. 21, 2017.
Frozen Debuted at No. 18 on Dec. 14, 2013, and then moved 11-10-8-4 and then to No. 1 on Jan. 18, 2014.
Les Misérables Debuted at No. 33 on Jan. 5, 2013, then moved to No. 2 and then to No. 1 on Jan. 19, 2013.
Pitch Perfect Debuted at No. 43 on Oct. 13, 2012, and then moved 16-12-13-33-50-53-105 before leaving the chart. Re-entered at No. 105 on Dec. 1, then fell off again. Then re-entered again at No. 45 on Jan. 5, 2013, and then rose 10-7-5 and then to its peak of No. 3 on Feb. 2.
-- Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody (Soundtrack) -- No. 13: The Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack climbs 76-13 (27,000 equivalent album units earned in the week ending Jan. 17, according to Nielsen Music, up 161 percent) after it regains its SEA and TEA units for the bulk of its songs. A week earlier (on the Jan. 19 chart, reflecting the sales and streaming week ending Jan. 10), those units went to Greatest Hits I II & III (falling 10-187 this issue), as it was the week’s top-selling Queen set with those songs. SEA and TEA activity for an artist’s song, when on multiple albums by that artist, goes to the album selling more in a given week. Queen’s catalog will likely get a spike on next week’s chart (dated Feb. 2) following Bohemian Rhapsody’s multiple Academy Award nominations, which were announced on Jan. 22, including best picture.
-- Carrie Underwood, Cry Pretty -- No. 38: Both Cry Pretty (vaulting 126-38 with 16,000 units; up 115 percent) and P!nk’s Beautiful Trauma (a re-entry at No. 105 with 8,000 units; up 207 percent) surge thanks to sales generated from concert ticket/album sale redemption offers.
-- Lana Del Rey, Born to Die -- No. 146: Born to Die returns to the list at No. 146 (7,000 units; up 24 percent) and also re-enters Top Album Sales (No. 55, 2,000 sold; up 99 percent) after sale pricing and promotion of its vinyl LP at Amazon. The LP re-enters the Vinyl Albums chart at No. 3. Elsewhere on Top Album Sales, Carole King’s classic former No. 1 album Tapestry re-enters at No. 38 (3,000 copies sold; up 282 percent). The album returns following a CBS Sunday Morning profile on the singer on Jan. 13.
-- Alec Benjamin, Narrated For You -- No. 127: Alec Benjamin’s Narrated for You starts at No. 127, thanks to a surge in activity following a new remix of its track “Let Me Down Slowly” featuring Alessia Cara. The album, which was released in November 2018, enters with 7,000 units (up 41 percent), mostly from streaming. Benjamin is also profiting from his Jan. 7 U.S. TV debut on CBS’ The Late Late Show With James Corden, where he performed the song. Meanwhile, “Slowly” debuts on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 79.
